Makinde’s Men, Stakeholders Chart New Way Forward On Delivery Of Sustainable Development Agenda

A diverse group of stakeholders and members of the Oyo state government gathered in Ibadan yesterday to address some of the pressing challenges and opportunities related to the implementation of the Roadmap for Sustainable Development Agenda in Oyo State.

The event, organized by the Office of the Special Assistant on Political Matters to the Executive Governor of Oyo state, aimed to elicit and deepen dialogue among government officials, civil society organizations, and private sector representatives.

The one day summit tagged “The Center Stage (1.0): Navigating Emerging Issues On Delivering The Roadmap for Sustainable Development in Oyo State, held at the House of Chiefs, Parliamentary Complex, Oyo state House of Assembly, Ibadan.

The discussions focused on key issues such as economic expansion, security, infrastructure development, and social equality.

Lead discussants, include the Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Barrister Olasunkanmi Olaleye, the Executive Assistant on Security Matters to Oyo state Governor, retired Commissioner of Police, Sunday Odukoya, Special Adviser on Media and Chief Press Secretary to the state Governor, Dr Sulaimon Olanrewaju, and the Chairman, Oyo State Hospital Management Board, Dr Akin Fagbemi.

The lead discussants in their separate submissions, highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts to align state’s economic policies with the grassroots to achieve the desired milestone on sustainable development agenda.

Barrister Olaleye, who delivered the keynote address, emphasized on the need for sustained inclusivity as catalyst for positive transformation to deepen growth and development of Oyo State.

While highlighting some of the key achievements of the Ministry of Agriculture under the Makinde led administration, the Commissioner reeled out some of the approvals recently obtained from the governor to further enhance the state’s economy and sustain the ongoing sectoral development.

Dr. Adebayo Olatunji, an environmental economist, urged stakeholders to prioritize green technologies in urban planning. “Investing in sustainable infrastructure is crucial for long-term growth,” he said.

Local community representatives expressed concerns about the impact of rapid urbanization and called for more grassroots involvement in decision-making processes.

One of the participants and community leader, Mary Adeola said, “We must ensure that the voices of the people are heard and considered in our development plans.”

Speaking with newsmen shortly after the event, convener of the program, Special Assistant to the Governor on Political Matters, Mr. Adeyemo Adedeji Ola, said as a responsive and concerned government, decision makers were invited to discuss challenges and way forward for the betterment of the people of Oyo state.

He assured that the Seyi Makinde led administration will continue to directly engage the people and ensure that their voices are continually heard and factored into decisions making regarding all government policies and programs.

He called on the people of Oyo state to continue to support the present government to deliver more dividends of democracy while creating the desired enablement for a thriving democratic governance.

Stakeholders at the end of the summit resolved to commit to a collaborative approach and inclusivie governance such that promote transparency, accountability, and shared responsibility in achieving the sustainable development agenda under Makinde’s Omituntun 2.0.
