Ibadan North PDP Chairman, Seun Adelore, Resigns Over Alleged Injustice and Imposition
Eagles Sight News reports that the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ibadan North Local Government Area of Oyo State, Seun Adelore, has stepped down from his role and withdrawn his membership from the party.
Adelore, a known political ally of Governor Seyi Makinde, cited systemic injustice, lack of appreciation for party loyalty, and a drift from democratic values as reasons for his decision. His resignation, which took effect on July 7, 2025, was confirmed through a letter obtained in Ibadan.
In the letter, Adelore expressed disappointment over what he described as the increasing personalization of the party’s affairs by a select group. He claimed that the PDP in Oyo State no longer operates as a collective political body but rather as a private concern run by a few influential individuals.
According to an update gathered by Eagles Sight News on Punch , party insiders, his resignation may be linked to recent developments surrounding the PDP’s selection process for the upcoming Ibadan North Federal Constituency bye-election. Reports indicate that Folajimi Oyekunle, the Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor, was endorsed as the party’s consensus candidate, a decision reportedly reached during a high-level meeting between Governor Makinde and other aspirants. All other contenders were said to have withdrawn in support of Oyekunle.
The bye-election follows the death of Hon. Olaide Akinremi, a two-term federal lawmaker from the area, who passed away in Abuja on July 10, 2024, after a brief illness.
Adelore, a former Chairman of the Oyo State Waste Management Board, said he arrived at his decision after wide consultations with his political supporters across the state. He described the internal climate of the party as toxic, accusing the current leadership of fostering an environment marked by intolerance, imposition, and authoritarian practices.
“This resignation is not impulsive,” Adelore wrote. “It comes after thoughtful reflection and numerous consultations. It has become clear that the values that once brought many of us into the party have been eroded. Acts of vindictiveness, oppression, and the marginalization of loyal members have become far too common.”
He concluded by referencing the Italian political thinker Niccolò Machiavelli, suggesting that political leaders often mask harsh rule with symbolic gestures, while sidelining those who supported their rise.
