For the avoidance of doubt and contrary to the bizzare news spread by the so called aggrieved councillors of Ibadan North local government against their principal officers on the allegation of gross misconduct.
The report had it that the aggrieved legislators have been calling for impeachment of the local government Chairman on the ground of not giving them money and other unlawful excuses.And the first step to achieve their unlawful and lackadaisical aims is to first bring down the leaders of the house who are in sincere standing with the Local Government chairman.
According to briefing with journalists after the urgly incident, the speaker of the house, Hon Kazeem Onatunji, the majority leader Hon Oyadoyin Olusegun ; Hon Shomolu one of the legislators narratted the scenarios with evidences.
Further to their statement as briefed to journalists and confirmed by eyewitnesses within the local government, the clerk of the house, the Speaker of the house Hon. Onatunji Kazeem asked the house to adopt the last minute after the reading and one of councillor representing ward twelve(12) named Hon. Agunbiade Muideen stood up and calling for the removal of the leader of the house and other principal officers. The motion which seconded by councillor representing ward four(4) Hon. Mudasiru Isiaq amidst rowdy session.
This unlawful and unruly behaviour sparked the reaction of fellow councillors and the Majority leader, Hon. Oyadoyin Olusegun stood to restore the normalcy by calming the agitators and their lackadaisical act that against the norms and standing rules of the house. In the course of his explanation that the house procedure must be followed before anybody can be stand removed, the councillor representing ward four(4) ordered the louts to come in and disrupt the plenary.
The hoodlums went straight to the maze and started carting it away. This illicit act did not go down well with others councillors as the Majority leader dragged it with them. Others also joined in the struggle of getting back the house maze.The hoodlums took up fight with the speaker of the house Hon Kazeem Onatunji and other principal officers as their main targets, left their clothes torn and injured. They have however recieved medical attention but the Chief Whip, Hon. Oniwinde Oluwaferanmi a female who beaten has been hospitalised due to her health as at the time of filling this report.
As at the time of filling this report, the maze and other items like speaker’s gown and wig, councillors’ phones, wristwatches and council properties including eye glasses of the majority leader have not been recovered from hoodlums.
The Speaker of the house, Hon. Onatunji Kazeem when speaking with our correspondent described the incidence as unexpected, affront on rule of law and gave the assurance that the law breakers will dance to the tune of law as their illegal acts have reported to law enforcement agencies, Ministry of local government and chieftaincy matter and other appropriate authority.
He affirmed that the principal officers of the house remain like Gibraltar rock as the sitting will be observed any moment from now.
