IGANGAN MASSACRE: North calls for war- Iba Gani Adams

The Aare Ona Kakanfo(Shogun) of Yoruba land, Iba Gani Adams, on Sunday 6th June , 2021 condemned bitterly the killing of innocent residents of Igangan town, Ibarapa in Oke Ogun area of Oyo State, saying with the sad incidence, it was evident that war is imminent in the country.

This was just as the Shogun had earlier warned Fulani herdsmen and bandits to stay away from the South-West or be ready to face stiff resistance, noting sadly that the killings in the early hours of Sunday brought the entire Igangan town and its environs to its kneel with over 50 people massacred, cars burnt and over 20 houses razed.

Chief Iba Gani Adams said this in his reaction shortly after news of the killings and destruction filtered in, with gory videos of the massacre, declaring that the North had waged war against the South-West and had also unleashed terror on the region, stressing the need for the South-West region to rise and defend themselves without looking back.

News gathered from tribune online and other source says, Iba Gani Adams, in a statement made available to newsmen by his media aide, Mr Kehinde Aderemi, the situation in which the region had found itself called for the people to rise up and defend themselves, wondering where were the police when the bandits started killing Yorubas in Igangan on Sunday while Asigangan’s the palace was not spared, among others.

This was just as Adams recalled the alert sounded a few days ago by the Director-General of Oyo State South-West Security Network Amotekun, Gen. Kunle Togun (Rtd), that herdsmen had invaded the South-West, which he said he corroborated by calling for urgent surveillance across the region.

The Yoruba generalissimo said with the recent onslaught on Igangan people, it was evident that the Fulani herdsmen were on a predetermined mission to kill, maim and decimate the South-West, declaring further that the latest incidence was one killing too many and would, therefore, not fold his arms seeing the blood of innocent people being shed like it was in Igangan.

“In a situation like this, you rise and defend yourself. Where are the police when the bandits started killing our people in Igangan today? Even the palace of Asigangan of Igangan land, Oba Adewuyi Olaoye, was not spared and the monarch, according to reports had been whisked away by the bandits.

“Three days ago, the Director-General of Oyo State South-West Security Network Amotekun, Gen Kunle Togun (rtd) raised the alarm that herdsmen had invaded the South-West. I corroborated his statements and called for urgent surveillance across the South-West. Now with the recent onslaught on Igangan people, it is evident that the Fulani herdsmen are on a predetermined mission to kill, maim and decimate the South-West.

“This is one killing too many, I will not fold my arms seeing the blood of innocent people being shed like it is in Igangan,” he said.

Adams, while lamenting the failure of the Federal Government to rise to the security challenges, charged all the governors in the South-West to rise and beef up the security of their respective states in order to provide adequate security for the people of the region.

He also charged the traditional rulers in the region to rise up to this occasion “now that the North had declared war on the South-West.”

“We will never keep silent or compromise on the homicide going on in the South-West,” he vowed.

The Yoruba Shogun, however, warned criminal herders to stay away from the region, as the South-West can no longer accommodate killers, assuring that Oodu’a Progressive Congress (OPC) and other local security operatives would continue to ensure that the region was safe for residents.
