Eaglessightnews reports that a  Nigerian man’s visa application was denied due to an outstanding loan of N5,000 from a loan app since 2020, revealed by his Bank Verification Number (BVN).

According to a report shared on Facebook by Leonard IB Marcus, the individual’s attempt to travel abroad was thwarted when his BVN showed the unpaid debt. Leonard wrote, “Someone’s Visa was denied all because his BVN shows he’s owing one loan app 5,000 naira since 2020.”

Leonard warned that a BVN is literally one’s identity and urged people to settle their loan debts to avoid embarrassment. He stated, “You use it to borrow money from a licensed loan app and for some reason, you didn’t meet up with payment since 2020. And you applied to leave the country for Canada or America….. The rest is OYO.”

Reacting to the post, Ohekwuru Dave advised people to check their credit reports to avoid similar situations. He said, “Many people think this is a lie. Try to apply for your credit report from a credit bureau so you can know your credit score and see all your details about your loan records. It will save you a lot of embarrassment.”

Israel Ifeoluwa questioned the legitimacy of loan apps, saying, “Which embassy did you go to, and your BVN was what they asked for? Una go just dey find engagement up and down. Most of these loan apps are not registered, they charge way too high.”

Jesse Peters Chimaobi joked about using loan apps to fund a journey to Europe, saying, “Na to collect 500k from Fairmoney enter Togo or Cotonou then Europe. Dey whyne.”
