Abducted Anglican Bishop, Wife, Driver Regain Freedom, Unrest In Abuja,Police Probe Alleged Kidnap Of 17 .

The kidnapped Bishop , wife and driver of Anglican Jebba Diocese, Kwara State, Rt. Rev Oluwaseun  Aderogba have been released by Bandits .

This was made public by the Diocese of Osun Anglican Communion on its Twitter handle on Tuesday evening, Also The Oyo State Police Command confirmed their release.

Eagle’s Sight News earlier reported about two days ago that the said abductees were kidnapped on Sunday night along Oyo/Ogbomoso express road.

According to the tweet of Osun Anglican Communion:

“Praise be to God. Bishop Adeyinka Aderogba, his wife and driver were released from the den of kidnappers after 48 hours.

“They are being taken to the hospital for medical attention.”
However, there was no report on whether ransom was paid before the release of the bishop, his wife and the driver.”

Their release after 48hrs is also confirmed in a statement released on Tuesday night by the Police Public Relations Officer for Oyo State, Adewale Osifeso, said the couple and their driver were released unhurt around 6:20pm on Tuesday.

He added that the three of them had been reunited with their families, adding that the hoodlums were pressurised into freeing their captives because of the heat turned on them by the massive deployment of the police in the area for search and rescue operations.

He however did not state whether ransom was paid for their release or not but recall that oyoaffairs.net had reported that their abductors were said to have demanded N50 million ransom when immediately after they were kidnapped on Sunday night, Oyoaffairs added.

The police statement reads; “The abducted Bishop Rt. Rev Aderogba Adeyinka of Jebba Anglican Diocese regained his freedom unhurt alongside his wife and driver around 1820hours  today, Tuesday 14/06/2022.

“The clergyman in the company of his wife and driver were abducted on Sunday 12/06/2022 at about 2100HRS after the victim’s vehicle developed mechanical fault while travelling from Yewa, Ogun State to Jebba, Kwara State enroute an isolated area along New Oyo/Ogbomoso Expressway.

The massive deployment of police personnel for the operation to rescue the victims and the domination of the entire area by the Police Tactical teams pressurised the abductors in freeing the victims.

“Investigation is ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators of this heinous crime and bring them to justice.”

Meanwhile, according to the leadership news, a Twitter handle, ‘Mindcoach’ @Ameerah_sufyan had twitted that “please whoever has my WhatsApp number, I sent a broadcast message of my location, we were abducted at gunpoint by people with police uniforms and a van from our houses from different parts of Abuja, we are 17, including three pregnant women, two little kids. They didn’t see my phone.”

When contacted by LEADERSHIP, the deputy police public relations officer for FCT, ASP Oduniyi Omotayo, said the police were on it.

Also, while confirming unrest in Durumi, Area 1 axis of the FCT, Omotayo said, “Brief unrest erupted at the IDPs Camp at Durumi, the police responded swiftly to restore normalcy to the situation.

An investigation is ongoing to ascertain the cause and effect of the unrest. Discovery will be contained in an official statement to be released shortly.
