Eagle’s Sight News reports that a public support group known as Young Professionals for Peace, Transparency and Development (YPPTD) has fired the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) over reported plea to Presidential Aspirants for funds raising to support the calls for the return of striking lecturers back to schools.

The group described the NANS plan as weak, corrupt and an attempt to raise funds for the private pockets of it’s leadership instead of mobilising a nationwide shut down of the Nigeria systems over the inability of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration to ensure the return of lecturers to schools, the fuel and jet fuel crisis that is about to cripple the aviation sector, the naira depreciation, inflation and food scarcity, failure to protect the lives of people, and ensure that all collapsed sectors work for the good of students and the Nigerian people.

In a recent report by PoinBlankNews, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) had on Wednesday appealed to the former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other presidential aspirants to raise money in order to meet the demands of the striking university lecturers.

The student body made the appeal in a statement, signed by the Chairman of NANS, Ogun State Joint Campus Committee (JCC), Comrade Kehinde Damilola Simeon and made available to newsmen on Wednesday.

The University lecturers have been on strike for over three months over the failure of the Federal Government to address some of the key demands of ASUU.

Some of the demands of the Union include: the revitalisation of public universities, earned academic allowances and the deployment of the University Transparency and Accountability Solution for payment of university lecturers.

NANS said the appeal came following the failure of the Federal government to accede to the demands of the striking lecturers.

But the group, YPPTD, through its National Coordinator, High Chief Selekumo Ndiaye, in a statement issued via electronic mail, said though the call may have a way to embarrass the President Buhari led administration’s inability to resolve the months old strike action by the university lecturers, the right thing to do is to shut down the entire Nigerian system including the Governance of the nation.

The group noted that the NANS leadership should take a cue from the NANS of the old in which such action as seeking for funds from private individuals is strange, and that the right way is to make the country ungovernable for the federal government and to those who feel shutting out the Nigerian students is righty.

“How can NANs be calling on these corrupt individuals that were part of the President Muhammadu Buhari led administration, that used looted public funds to procure a three pages nomination form at N100Million. Instead, we should lawfully shut-down the country and make it known to them that the coming primaries of political parties will not hold unless these politicians return students to classes.”

“The end SARS protests have shown that the only language understood by the Buhari led administration and his cohorts is that of total shutdown of their corrupt systems. NANS should as a matter of urgency reach out to different groups and civil society groups to send the right signal.”
