Speaking at his inaugural press conference on Tuesday at the state command headquarters in Ibadan, Haruna said the command under his leadership will not tolerate any form of criminal activity or threats to public peace.
The newly appointed Police Commissioner who vowed to Crush Crime in Oyo State also declared his commitment to decisively maintain peace across the state.
“No criminal activity will be tolerated under my leadership. Anyone attempting to disturb the peace in Oyo State will face the full weight of the law,” he stated.
Haruna assured the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, of his dedication to ensuring a secure and tranquil environment throughout the state.
Eagles Sight News reports that Mr Haruna’s appointment comes at a crucial time as Oyo State prepares for the Ibadan North Federal Constituency bye-election, slated for August 16—an exercise that typically demands heightened security presence and coordination.
The commissioner commended his predecessor, Johnson Adenola, recently promoted to Assistant Inspector-General of Police, for building a solid operational structure within the command. He pledged to build on that foundation to make Oyo one of the safest and most stable states in the country.
“The police will continue to discharge their duties without bias—regardless of one’s background, beliefs, or affiliations,” Haruna said.
He also emphasized the importance of synergy with sister security agencies, credible informants, vigilante groups, and the media in the fight against crimes such as kidnapping, illegal mining, and armed robbery.
Haruna announced plans to upgrade the state’s security framework and implement more actionable strategies to make the environment hostile for criminals and their networks.
As part of his leadership blueprint, the commissioner unveiled an eight-point action plan that includes enforcing strict discipline within the command, respect for the rule of law and citizens’ rights, and deepening community policing efforts.
