Honourable Waheed Akanbi Biiro has expressed deep appreciation to the Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, for finding him worthy of appointment as the Chairman of the Oyo State Waste Management Authority (OYOWMA).
The appreciation follows his official collection of the letter of appointment at the Governor’s Office, Secretariat, Ibadan, on Monday, marking the formal commencement of his duties as the new chairman.

The chairman, who assumed office on Wednesday, held a strategic meeting with the staff of the Oyo State Waste Management Authority and vowed to improve the waste management system across the state.

According to him, “Good hygiene and a clean environment are among the priorities of Governor Makinde. The Governor wants everyone to maintain good hygiene because cleanliness is next to godliness. With your cooperation, I will ensure we work with other environmental agencies in the state to achieve a cleaner Oyo State.”

Hon. Biiro also embarked on an inspection tour of the agency’s facilities and critical locations across the state capital.
He was conducted round by Engr. Afolabi Akeem Adewale, the General Manager of OYOWMA, who, alongside other staff, welcomed him and briefed him on ongoing operations and areas requiring urgent attention. Engr. Afolabi also pledged the cooperation of all staff to ensure the continued progress of waste management efforts in the state.
In a statement personally signed and made available to Eagles Sight News in Ibadan on Tuesday, Biiro described the appointment as a “call to higher service,” pledging his unwavering commitment to the vision of the Makinde administration in ensuring a cleaner and healthier environment across Oyo State.
“I am profoundly grateful to His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde, for this great honour and trust. This appointment is not just a personal achievement but an opportunity to contribute more meaningfully to the development of Oyo State. I also appreciate Otunba Seye Famojuro,” he said.
Biiro, who is a former Chairman of Ibadan North Local Government, assured residents that he would work tirelessly with relevant stakeholders to improve waste management and sustain the gains already recorded under the present administration.

He also commended Governor Makinde for his inclusive approach to governance, noting that the latest appointments reflected the governor’s commitment to competence, dedication, and grassroots experience.
“I call on all residents to support the government’s efforts in making Oyo State cleaner and safer. Together, we will achieve more,” Biiro added.
Eagles Sight News reports that after Governor Makinde and PDP leaders in Ibadan North approved Folajimi Oyekunle (DON) as the consensus candidate for the forthcoming bye-election in August, the Governor, through his Chief of Staff, also announced a series of new appointments on Monday. These included Hon. Adeyinka Kazim Adeniyi (Bibire) as Deputy Chief of Staff, Hon. Taiwo Lekan Salami as Chairman of Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC), and Hon. Kabiru Salami as Executive Assistant on Security Coordination, among others.
