Breaking:Nigerians to Buy Petrol at Higher Rate as NNPCL Releases Fresh Price Across States

New Price Of Petrol Across All States In Nigeria Emerges – NNPCL

•••As NNPC Insists It Bought Petrol From Dangote Refinery At ₦898 Per Litre

The Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has announced that petrol prices will increase across the states.

According to a recent report gathered on Naija News, the increase in price followed a statement from NNPCL stating that it bought petrol at a higher rate from Dangote Refinery on Sunday.

NNPCL’s statement also disclosed that contrary to the directive of the federal, Dangote Refinery sold its refined product on Sunday in US Dollars and not naira.

The statement, however, disclosed that Dangote Refinery will sell its October product in naira.

A breakdown of the chart from NNPCL showed Dangote Refinery sold petrol to NNPCL at ₦898.78 per liter. NNPCL paid Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) fee of ₦8.99, inspection fee of ₦0.97, a distribution cost in Lagos of ₦15, margin ₦26.48.

NNPCL’s statement added that the estimated pump price in Lagos will be  950.22, Sokoto State ₦999.22;  Kano State ₦999.22, Borno State ₦1,019.22, Kaduna ₦999.22, FCT ₦992.22, Oyo State ₦960.22, Lagos State ₦950.22, Rivers State ₦980.00,  Imo State ₦980.22.

An analysis of the chart showed that except from Lagos State, other states of the federation will be paying higher because of distribution costs.

The distance from Dangote Refinery and NNPCL‘s depot in Lagos State to other states of the country majorly would determine the price differences.

The report also showed that the six geo-political zones would be paying differently. The North East states would be paying the highest per liter from ₦1,019.22, followed by North West states from ₦999.22, followed by North Central states from ₦992.22, followed by South East states from ₦980.22, South South states from ₦980.22 and South West states paying the least from ₦960.22, except Lagos State paying from ₦950.22.

NNPC Insists It Bought Petrol From Dangote Refinery At ₦898 Per Litre

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) and Dangote Refinery are at odds over the price of petrol purchased from the latter.

On Monday morning, NNPC Ltd’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Olufemi Soneye, reaffirmed that the company acquired petrol from Dangote Refinery at ₦898 per litre.

This disclosure follows a previous statement by NNPC, which has now been disputed by the refinery.

In a response late Sunday, Dangote Refinery labelled NNPC’s claim as “misleading and mischievous.” Anthony Chiejina, the refinery’s Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer, criticized the statement as an attempt to undermine the refinery’s role in mitigating Nigeria’s energy shortages.

Chiejina urged Nigerians to disregard the “malicious statement” and await a formal pricing announcement from the Technical Sub-Committee on Naira-based crude sales, appointed by President Bola Tinubu, set to begin on October 1.

Chiejina’s statement did not reveal the actual price at which Dangote Refinery sold petrol to NNPC Ltd, but he highlighted that the refinery’s crude stock was procured and sold in dollars, yielding savings compared to current imports.

Despite this, Soneye maintains that the price of ₦898 per litre is accurate, asserting that market forces now dictate domestic pump prices.

Speaking with Premium Times, he said, “If the price isn’t ₦898, then what is it? We would be happy to receive a discount. Throughout the day, various figures have been circulating—some claiming ₦1,300, Punch reported around ₦767, and another outlet mentioned ₦500. It’s our responsibility to clarify the facts. The truth is, the government is not setting fuel prices, nor is NNPC Ltd. It’s a deregulated market where prices are determined by market forces.

“Let them tell you their price. I stand by my earlier comment. Will you allow customers to carry your product without price agreement?” Sources from Naijanews.
