OYO SUBEB recruitment: “TRCN licence not required” – Adeniran

The Oyo State Government has announced that applicants without the Teachers’ Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) licence can apply for positions through the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (OYOSUBEB) job portal.

Dr. Nureni Aderemi Adeniran, the Executive Chairman of OYOSUBEB, made this announcement during a weekly program on Fresh FM, Ibadan.

The state government had previously opened its job portal for primary school teachers from June 25, 2024, to July 9, 2024.

Adeniran emphasized that while applicants can apply without the TRCN license, they must register for it upon employment, as it will be a critical requirement for promotion within the state teaching service.

Addressing questions about the eligibility of teachers with an NCE certificate, Adeniran stated that while the state recognizes the importance of the TRCN licence, it would be unfair to deny prospective applicants the opportunity to apply. He noted that applicants could register with the council while employed.

The OYOSUBEB boss, who is a registered member of the council, said the Oyo State government was committed to the standardization of the teaching profession in the state.

He encouraged holders of National Certificate in Education (NCE), B.A., and B.Sc. degrees to apply before the deadline.

He said, “We have been receiving messages on the prospects of applicants without the licence of TRCN. No doubt, as a teacher, you must register with the council. However, we will allow them to apply. Those employed without the certificate must as a matter of duty, register immediately.”

This present government is planning to recruit 7,000 teachers and we are keen on employing duly qualified ones. Those who are licensed by the TRCN have added advantages. We do not want quacks, this is why the examination process will take written and oral stages. If you are lucky to be employed, without a TRCN licence, you must get it, as soon as you can.”

Adeniran noted that the application process has been well-received, with over 55,000 applications submitted as of this morning.

He also mentioned that the Board plans to assign teachers to their local government areas to enhance motivation.

To avoid controversy, Adeniran assured that religious questions would not be included in the Computer-Based Test (CBT) for applicants. He advised candidates to prepare thoroughly, as only suitably qualified individuals will be employed.
