Former Borno State Governor, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, has suggested that Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential flagbearer, is preparing to return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2027 elections.

Eagles Sight News recalls that Obi defected from the PDP in 2022 to pursue his presidential ambition under the Labour Party. Currently, he is part of an emerging opposition coalition seeking to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the next general elections.

Eagles Sight News gathers that the coalition, which adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its platform, is already witnessing internal friction. Reports suggest that the presidential ambitions of political heavyweights such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi are causing uncertainty around Obi’s continued participation.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television on Monday, Modu Sheriff alleged that reliable sources have informed him of Obi’s imminent return to the PDP.

As far as this politics is concerned, ADC doesn’t exist. Give the party three months and it will die down.The information available to me is that at any moment from now Peter Obi will go back to PDP and run as a presidential candidate under PDP,” he said.

The former governor further expressed confidence that the All Progressives Congress (APC), with its widespread political structure, remains the party to beat in 2027.

In an earlier report by Eagles Sight News, it was revealed that Atiku Abubakar, who could pose a significant challenge to Obi within the PDP, has already moved to the ADC — the same platform currently being used by the opposition coalition.
