2023: Sen Balogun, Akande To Dump PDP As Absence From Stakeholders Meeting Fuels SDP Move

Eagelssightsnews yesterday updated the stateholders meeting of Oyo State Governors, Engr Seyi Makinde with all PDP aspirants in the state Vying for one position or the other.

This reliable online news paper later affirmed from a source that the incumbent Senator of Oyo South Dr kola Balogun was absent. It was purportedly said that his silence and absentsim in the consensus meeting is to battle in primary as the inec elctoral policy asks all parties where consensus is not reached to embark on primary.

A recent update slightly contrary to this update has unvield the plan of Kola Balogun and Mulikat Akande to dump PDP for SDP.

This development slide in following the ratification of Joseph Tegbe as the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Consensus candidate for Oyo South Senatorial ticket.

In a recent report by Western daily mirror, indications have emerged that the incumbent, Senator Kola Balogun may announce his official decampment from the ruling PDP to the Social Democratic Party (SDP) any moment from now.

Senator Balogun who was absent from the PDP Stakeholders meeting which held at the Agodi Government House under the leadership of Governor Makinde yesterday was said to be angered by the new development and is already consulting with the SDP in Oyo state as an alternative plan to seek for a return to the Senate come 2023.

When contacted over the phone for confirmation of Senator Balogun’s planned move to SDP, the Special Adviser on media to the Senator, Dapo Falade, neither debunked nor authenticated the information but rather said he was unaware of any of such plans. “I am not aware of such.” Falade said.

However, it was gathered that some of the Senator’s core supporters are already hobnobbing with the Oyo state chapter of SDP which has further fueled the information making rounds.

A quick check on the camp of former Majority Leader of the Federal House of Representatives, Honourable Mulikat Adeola Akande also revealed that the former lawmaker has perfected plans to dump PDP for SDP to advance her political aspiration having lost the Ogbomoso North PDP Senatorial ticket to Akinwale Akinwole also known as ‘Wolekanle’ as the party’s consensus candidate.

It is however, unclear if the Ambassador Taofeeq Arapaja led Committee has ratified Akinwale’s name as the PDP consensus candidate for Ogbomoso North Senatorial District since the adoption by the party stakeholders in the zone is subject to final ratification by the committee.

This reliable online newspaper’Eaglessightnews’ further gathered form Sunrisebulletin, that the political build up within the Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress occasioned by uncertainty over aspirations of who would fly the party’s presidential ticket at the 2023 general election among the array of presidential aspirants has reportedly led the camp of former Lagos governor, Bola Ahmed Tinubu consulting with SDP in the event of an unfavorable outcome at the APC presidential primary.

Another source in the APC who is believed to be a core apologist of the main opposition party in Oyo state also said that the Oyo state APC governorship candidate in the 2019 election, Oloye Bayo Adelabu otherwise called ‘Penkelemes’ was waiting for the greenlight from Tinubu’s camp over his next political move.

Senator Teslim Kola Balogun currently representing Oyo Central Senatorial District in the Senate according to multiple sources within the Oyo APC, is at a vantage position to fly the party’s ticket as the governorship candidate ahead of the 2023 general election having secured a firm control of the party’s structure in the state with the new Isaac Omodewu led state exco of the party.

According to information emanating from the camp of Oyo state PDP as at Monday evening, Some of the top PDP aspirants contesting the Oyo South Senatorial ticket including the Executive Chairman, Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Dr Nureni Adeniran have stepped down their Senatorial aspirations for Joseph Tegbe who recently joined the ruling party from the APC and has been ratified as the PDP consensus candidate.

Meanwhile, all efforts by the ruling PDP Stakeholders headed by Governor Seyi Makinde, to persuade former majority leader of the Federal House of Representatives, Honourable Mulikat Akande to accept the Ogbomoso North Senatorial ticket of PDP has proved abortive.

The former federal lawmaker was said to have demanded two house of representatives tickets and other slots in the party structure to be included in her consolation package being one of the leaders of aggrieved members of the ruling party before she could accept her Ogbomoso North PDP Senatorial ticket offer which according to the PDP source was unacceptable by the Governor and other stakeholders leading to breakdown of political talks with her.

As at press time, neither Senator Balogun who is the younger brother to the new Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Lekan Balogun nor Hon. Akande has publicly declared their departure from the PDP but sources within both camps said the declaration will likely happen between now and the coming week.
