Girl, 16, horrified to discover mystery man blackmailing her for naked photos was dad

A 16-year-old girl has been left horrified after discovering her own father was the one blackmailing her for naked pictures of herself.

The young girl was forced to send explicit topless photos to the vile troll by threatening to expose her to her friends and family.

The victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, sent pictures to the anonymous blackmailer because she thought her family would be harmed.

But she had no idea that the person targeting her on Instagram was her own 36-year-old father and that he was a paedophile with an interest in extreme porn.

The predator was placed on the Sex Offenders Register today after he admitted extortion and collecting indecent images of children.

The man, formerly of Arbroath, admitted intending to menace his daughter between March 24, 2020 and February 3, 2022 by threatening to harm her family if she did not send him explicit photographs.

He admitted extorting naked images of the teenager by subjecting her to threats.

He also admitted having indecent images of children at his home between the same dates, and having bestiality images between December 4, 2020 and February 3, 2022.

Fiscal depute Lynn Mannion told Dundee Sheriff Court: “The accused was 36 at the time and resided with his partner, son and 16-year-old daughter.

“On January 26, 2022 the police received confidential information about indecent images which may be held at his home address.

“A search warrant was granted and his partner answered the door. His son and daughter were also there. The accused was at work at the time.

“The officers asked him to return home. The nature of the inquiry was explained to him and an iPhone was taken from him.”

The prosecutor told the court that child exploitation material was recovered from the man’s phone and further analysis was carried out by specialist officers.

Ms Mannion said it contained 11 videos of child abuse featuring girls aged between six and 12. The accused was arrested and taken to police HQ.

When a full forensic analysis was carried out, it emerged that there were four images of a girl exposing her breasts which had been sent directly to his phone.

Further investigation established that the pictures had been sent by his own daughter and a message trail showed he had been secretly blackmailing her.

Ms Mannion said: “She was interviewed and said she had been contacted by an unknown person on Instagram and asked for ‘pictures of her tits’.

“She was told that if she didn’t send the images he would hurt her family.”

The accused claimed to police that he had become aware of his daughter sending pictures to other people on social media and wanted to check if it was true.

“He admitted being responsible and said he was trying to catch her out sending naked images,” the fiscal depute said.

The accused told police: “I don’t know. It was a stupid moment of madness. She was sending pictures to random people. I want to make it clear it was not for sexual attraction or anything like that.”

But the court was told that the man was found with a collection of nearly 700 child porn images and videos, featuring children aged between four and 15.

He had also been viewing vile porn material featuring extreme violence and bestiality between adult humans and animals.

Solicitor Brian Bell, defending, said his client was aware that there was a serious possibility of him being sent to prison.

Sheriff Jillian Martin-Brown granted the man bail and deferred sentence upon him for the preparation of social work background reports.

She said: “As your solicitor has highlighted, this is a serious matter and custody is an option.”
