Oyo NNPP Chieftains, Members Set To Join APC for Olaoluwa
Leaders and some members of the New Nigeria People’s Party NNPP in Oyo State are set to dump the party.
This development was disclosed to newsmen by a chieftain of the party in Oyo state, Pastor Segun Arowobusuyi at a meeting in Ibadan.
According to Arowobusuyi, some members of the party in the state, especially in Ibadan North, will be joining the ruling All Progressives Congress APC in Oyo state in other to support the governorship ambition of the President , Peter Olaoluwa Foundation, Olaoluwa Peter Abidemi popularly called OPA.
Arowobusuyi stated that their move as a unanimous and strategic decision, saying, “We can not continue to be in a sinking boat.
“Yes, we are a pioneer member of NNPP in Oyo state, but you can not be in a boat that is already capsizing.
“Looking at issues the way they are, we have come to the inevitable conclusion to do something else, especially to support our own Olaoluwa Peter Abidemi.
Responding on behalf of Olaoluwa Peter Abidemi, the coordinator, Opa Political Movement, Canon Joseph Dopamu, appreciated leaders and members of the party present at the meeting assuring them of effective integration into the mainstream of the party.
Dopamu expressed the readiness of Olaoluwa Peter Abidemi to ensure that all are well taken care of with various forms of empowerment and financial assistance, among others.
Canon Dopamu added that the defection wave appears to validate recent comments made by APC national chairman Abdullahi Ganduje, who bluntly declared the NNPP “dead.
” Speaking in Paris during the unveiling of APC’s France chapter, Ganduje said, “The NNPP is dead. And it will soon be buried; very, very soon. I’m looking at where we will bury the body. The coffin has already been constructed. What remains now is to dig the grave. And already they are digging the grave very, very soon.”
