Mistaken Identity: Find Out Details of What DSS Said after Journalist Soyinka’s Passport Was Released

Eaglessightnews reports that the Department of State Services has returned the withheld passport of investigative journalist, Adejuwon Soyinka.

The recent development followed legal action taken by the award winning Journalist, Soyinka on the passport seized after he was released.

Eaglessightnews recalls that Soyinka, the West Africa Regional Editor at The Conversation Africa, was intercepted and arrested on Sunday at the Muritala Muhammed International Airport.

Soyinka was held and interrogated for about eight hours at both the DSS Airport Command and the agency’s Ikoyi office.

After several hours of interrogation , he was later released while his passport was withheld.

To set the record straight, Mr Soyinka took legal action against the DSS and engaged the intervention of Human Rights lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, who accompanied him to the DSS’ office in Ikoyi, Lagos to retrieved his passport on Friday.

But Effiong, on Friday, stated that after Soyinka got his passport back, the DSS operatives blamed his arrest and detention on possible mistaken identity.

He said, “I went with Soyinka to retrieve his passport today. The secret police’s decision to blame the whole incident on possible mistaken identity did not come to me as a surprise.”
