FG Declares June 6 and 9 Public Holidays for Eid-ul-Adha Celebrations Nationwide

The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced that Friday, June 6, and Monday, June 9, 2025, will be observed as public holidays across the country in honor of the upcoming Eid-ul-Adha festival.

Eagles Sight News reports that the declaration was made public through a statement released by the Ministry of Interior on Monday, June 2, 2025. The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the announcement on behalf of the federal authorities.

In his message, the Minister extended warm greetings to Muslims in Nigeria and across the globe as they prepare to celebrate one of the most significant events in the Islamic calendar.

Emphasis on National Unity and Prayers

Dr. Tunji-Ojo encouraged citizens, particularly Muslims, to reflect on the spiritual significance of Eid-ul-Adha, which commemorates the devotion and sacrifice of Prophet Ibrahim. He urged Nigerians to use the festive occasion as an opportunity to pray for peace and progress within the nation.

He also highlighted the administration’s ongoing efforts to drive national development through people-focused reforms. According to the Minister, these initiatives align with the broader Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu’s government, which aims to transform Nigeria’s socio-economic landscape.
