Just In:Tinubu’s New Ministers Resign From House of Reps
The Minister of Interior, Tunji Olubunmi-Ojo, and the Minister of State for Education, Tanko Sununu, have officially resigned from the House of Representatives.
Their letters of resignation were read on the floor of the House on Tuesday by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas.
Messrs Olubunmi-Ojo and Sununu were appointed by President Bola Tinubu and cleared by the Senate in August, however, the House had been on recess since July.
While Mr Olubunmi-Ojo represented the Akoko North-east/Akoko North-west federal constituency of Ondo State, Mr Sununu was the representative of the Yauri/Shanga/Ngaski federal constituency of Kebbi State in the lower chamber.
Section 68 of the 1999 Constitution provides that a member shall cease to be a member if appointed as minister.
“(1) A member of the Senate or of the House of Representatives shall vacate his seat in the House of which he is a member if -he becomes President, Vice-President, Governor, Deputy Governor or a Minister of the Government of the Federation or a Commissioner of the Government of a State or a Special Adviser,” the section reads.

Meanwhile, Salisu Majigiri (PDP, Katsina) was sworn in as a member of the House at the resumption of plenary.
Mr Majigiri was declared the winner of the 25 February election for Mashi/Dutsi federal constituency of Katsina State after polling 27,387 votes to defeat his closest rival, Mansir Ali of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who polled 20,596 votes.
However, his candidacy was challenged by Nazifi Yusuf at the Supreme Court, which In April, affirmed the candidacy of Mr Majigiri.

UNGA 2023: Governor Makinde and International Relationships, a Potential Economic Advancement for Oyo State
Let’s first talk about how beyond party affiliations, the Oyo State Governor, His Excellency, Engr. Oluseyi Makinde has made progressive and productive relationships across board. Progressive and productive because looking through the network of people he relates with in the political sphere, one could easily deduce if without sentiments, that they are relationships built on values, nation building, and intentional leadership.
The one with the Grand Commander of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, though laced with several controversies, speculations and labeling, can also be easily classified objectively by the fruits it is bearing.
However, the subject of today is merely one of the by-products of that Governor-President relationship, as the Governor of the Pacesetter State was listed in attendance with the President at the ongoing prestigious United Nations General Assembly(UNGA) at the United Nations headqarters in New York, being the Governor’s second time in just two months to be listed with the President’s entourage to a foreign assignment.
The 78th session of the UNGA which has Governor Seyi Makinde amongst 5 other Governors from Nigeria in attendance, was tagged “Rebuilding Trust and Reigniting Global Solidarity: Accelerating Action on the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals towards Peace, Prosperity, Progress and Sustainability for all”.
The United Nations General Assembly is the main policy making organ of the United Nations; it is where and when action plans for member nations in the world are proposed and set in motion. It is where and when major world issues are deliberated and resolved. It is the meeting of world leaders. It is a network of global policy makers.
Aside from the distinct access that will grant Governor Seyi Makinde first hand information that will be available at the Assembly, his participation as a global leader, and the saturation of the venue with international leadership qualities; his antecedence in attracting investors to Oyo State through similar meetings which are even no where near to be compared in status to the UNGA, can assure the good people of Oyo State of a potential economic advancement that will be borne of the Assembly.
Apparently, the Governor has been more than resilient in his journey of improving himself in the business of governance. Making leadership summits a priority, making himself available for such summits, and placing values at the center of his relationships can only define him as an intentional leader and nation builder worthy of emulation by leaders and leaders.

The late Ajagbusi-Ekun, Owaloko of Iloko-Ijesha, Ọbá Oladele Olashore once advised me during his lifetime to write a compendium about Ọbás and Ọbáship in Yorùbáland. This was after we have interacted consistently on this subject and he discovered I knew so much about the Institution of Ọbás because of my craft and my principled position when it comes to saying the ‘TRUTH’ as it is.
I was in Iseyin together with members of The GSMists when our Governor, GSM said that the throne of the Aláàfin of Òyó was not for sale because apart from being the repository of the culture of the Yorùbá race, the stool is very important to the entire Yorùbáland.
He said this to break the ice, particularly because the custodians of the ascension process have compromised and turned it into a commercial selection process courting the highest bidder in the form of ‘Trade by Barter.’
The current battle to fill several prominent traditional stools in Yorùbáland is also contending with the indisputable age long custom that “the head that wears a crown comes from the brass bell; the neck that wears coral beads also comes from the brass bell and likewise the waist that wraps a good garment that shines comes also from the brass bell.” All these assertions are a pointer to the Yorùbá customary belief about Ọbáship.
Yorùbás believe that no one becomes an Ọbá by mistake. Kings are destined to be Kings and there are always traits from birth, though this belief is based on the principles of truth and fairness.
However, there is always a boundary and a point caution: non-royals should know themselves as non-royals (ki eru o se bi eru, ki iwofa se bi iwofa). After a King joins his ancestors in Yorùbá land, it is the natural responsibility of the Kingmakers to consult with Elders within the town and the Ifa Oracle on who becomes the next King.
It is interesting to know that no matter the strife between culture and civilisation, culture will always triumph, for even if modernity chooses screening, competition, debate, interview or even manifesto and voting, it will always generate controversy except the traditional laid down process of picking an Ọbá through the ‘Ifa Oracle’ is not subverted . This is because the matter is to pick a TRADITIONAL ruler (who will preserve culture and traditions) and not MODERNIZED RULER.

Princess Azeezat Folashade Abeo, the Iyaloja-General of Oyo State, and Alhaja Riswat Oyinlola Adeola Ameringun, the Iyaloja of Ibadanland, met on Saturday to discuss long-term solutions to the challenges that traders are currently experiencing, particularly those caused by the camp of saboteurs.

The Iyaloja General of Oyo State, who had been in the UK since last week to congratulate his son on the occasion of his graduation ceremony, thanked the Iyaloja Ibadan land, traditional councils, traders, and other well-wishers for their love and support since her installation and promised that the status quo on all factors that gave rise to her nomination, recommendation, and installation as the new Iyaloja General of Oyo State would be maintained.
She reaffirms her unwavering commitment and dedication to the Governor Makinde led government towards revolutionizing commerce and trade in Oyo state.
Recall that the Late Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, at an event witnessed by members of Oyo State Traditional Council of Obas including the Aseyin of Iseyinland, Olugbon Of Ile Igbon, Iba Of Kishi and other stakeholders had installed Princess Abeo as the New Iyaloja General of Oyo state after completing all necessary process that should culminate into final presentation of Certificate of Office to her by the state government as a symbol of authority.
Due to the delay, saboteurs’ camp have been usurping her authority and parading their candidate as the legitimate Iyaloja General of Oyo state.
Following the development, the Oyo state Leaders Council of Secretaries on Saturday appealed to His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde to formally present the Certificate of Office to Princess Azeezat Folashade Abeo, the Oyo state’s Iyaloja-General, in order to put an end to all squabbles and prevent crises.

The group in a statement made available to journalists wondering why presentation of her Certificate of Office was being delayed leaving room for needless crisis and avoidable controversies.

The Leaders Council of Secretaries stated that prior to the emergence of the Babaloja-General and Iyaloja-General of the state of Oyo, the two offices and other smaller offices within its leadership were properly zoned to other administrative zones to reflect inclusivity and cohesion of purpose, highlighting the fact that the delay in the presentation of the Princess Abeo’s Certificate of Office gave rise to the lingering controversy.
To ensure an equitable distribution of its offices, the Leaders Council of Secretaries added that while the office of Babaloja-General, currently held by Alhaji Y. K. Abass, was zoned to Ibadan, that of Iyaloja-General was zoned to Oyo, the hometown of Princess Abeo.
They questioned why another person from Ibadan would continue to purposefully sow discord and crisis within the state market.
The Leaders Council of Secretaries also recalled that, in accordance with the current zoning formula to promote equity, fairness, and justice, the late Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamido Adeyemi III, appointed Princess Abeo as the Iyaloja-General of Oyo state on April 26, 2021, following the Oyo state Market Leaders Council’s recommendation.
The Leaders Council of Secretaries stated that it would continue to work with the state government to further develop Oyo state’s economy, commerce, and industries in line with the governor’s Sustainable Development Agenda while pleading with Governor Makinde to approve the presentation of a Certificate of Office to Princess Abeo.

Oyo State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, Hon (Mrs) Toyin Balogun has been honoured with an award from the Nigerian Legion. Eaglessightnews reports.
The award which was bestowed to the commissioner as contained in a statement disclosed to journalists , a copy made available to eaglessightnews.com.ng Friday was presented by the Oyo State Chairman of the Nigerian Legion to recognize and appreciate her as an Excellence and Outstanding Personality in the country.

“The State Chairman Mr. Ogunkojo seized the opportunity to discuss preparations towards the Armed Forces Remembrance Day, he also highlighted challenges faced by his men, which the Hon Commissioner promised to relay for His Excellency’s intervention.

I read with gloom the news about the extinction of that spectacular, expansive recreation centre in the city of Ibadan, Trans Amusement Park, one of the tourist sites that defined Ibadan for decades. I was really shocked that the place that I had worked both as a management staff of a private company operating in the park and as the Operations Manager of Trans Amusement Park itself, is now being converted to a residential estate. It was not the news I wanted to hear about Trans.
At first, I did not believe it, wondering why a progressive governor like Engineer Seyi Makinde would take such a decision. Why the much loved governor would want to deprive the youths, the old and all categories of people that have been utilizing the park for years. Why would our successful governor kill a tourist site that could be used to further the growth of tourism and business in Oyo State and Nigeria? Why?
However, when I read the release put out by the state government stating the reasons for the death of Trans Amusement Park, I became more saddened.

The government in the release claimed that all the efforts to get investors to take over the park were futile as no serious investor came up to invest in the park. And I asked myself, why any serious investor would want to partner with Oyo State Government particularly considering the viciousness the state had been visited on such investors in the past. With tears rolling down my cheeks, I remembered how a late governor of the state, Senator Abiola Ajimobi had used soldiers and policemen to throw us out of Lyrics Nite Club situated right inside the park for no other reason than political victimization in the most callous manner.
As the General Manager of Lyrics Nite Club, the outfit that resuscitated Trans Amusement Park after years of inactivity in 2000, what I witnessed on November 13, 2011 when the government of the late Senator Abiola Ajimobi in a clear case of oppression, victimization and height of wickedness sent soldiers to our club at about 8 in the night just to victimize the owners of the club who was not in the same party with him. At first, when we saw heavily armed policemen and soldiers we thought it was a case of armed robbery and everybody including over 200 guests we had in the club took to their heels. As the GM I later summoned courage and I unquestioningly sought the attention of one of the police officers, who said they were sent from the state government. They gave us 5 minutes to move out of the premises. To move out of Trans we had been growing for eleven years in 5 minutes. What could we take when our perishable and drinks for the weekend alone, were over 2 million Naira in just 5 minutes? In less than five minutes, they started shooting and we had no choice than to run out of the place leaving our materials and equipment in ruins.
Sadly, this happened when the state government did not have any legal authority on the park after the government of the late Otunba Adebayo Alao Akala that preceded Ajimobi’s government had concessioned the entire part to HAMAK Group of Companies.
Even, if Ajimobi had noticed any flaw or irregularities in the government’s transactions between the government and HAMAK, it ought to have followed due process, invited HAMAK and sort them out. But, rather than doing that, Ajimobi in the crudest manner sent armed men to chase us out of Lyrics after we had just expended millions of Naira up-scaling the club. No notice, no letter, no invite. In fact the managers of the park were not in any way informed of the cruel actions of the governor. They were all shell shocked when I narrated what transpired in the previous night to them. Without knowing that a thing like this would happen in future, one of the managers lamented” this governor has killed Trans”.
Realizing the contributions of Lyrics to Trans with our national and international activities which rubbed off on them in terms of patronage and publicity, the management of Trans Amusement Park on their own came to beg me later to work for the park, an offer I accepted after the approval of the Chairman of Lyrics, the kind hearted, benevolent and forward looking Agabaakin Kehinde Olaosebikan. This was after all the appeals to the governor on Lyrics had fallen on the deaf ears of Ajimobi.
It is on record that Trans Amusement Park thrived why Lyrics operated within the park and the first ever profit recorded in the over 20 years of existence of Trans was in 2011 in the first year of operations of Lyrics in the park. Established to facilitate social-economic development of the state, Lyrics satisfactorily played this role in the 11 years of its operation in the park before it was cruelly killed as a result of political hostility of Abiola Ajimobi.
Governor Akala, undoubtedly one of the best governors in the history of Oyo State, saw the right thing to do with the park and in line with the trending business model, following the global best practices, concessioned the park to HAMAK after payment of the prescribed sum
Unfortunately again, after the callous treatment meted to the investors on the Trans Amusement Park, Abiola Ajimobi did nothing about the park in his 8 years of rule. No policy improvement, no government support, nothing. He practically left the place to die.
As a former Operations Manager of the Park, I align totally with the government on its new usage for the expanse of land on all grounds stated by the government.
First, if Governor Ajimobi had added just a little positive value to the park just like his predecessors: Late Alhaji Lam Adesina, Senator Rasheed Ladoja and Otunba Adebayo Alao Akala did, the equipment and facilities at the Park would have been updated and enhancing them now would be feasible. Secondly, if Ajimobi had not visited outright callousness on former investors and genuine promoters of Trans Wonderland, people would not be running away from investing in it as it has played out now. Government is continuum and if Ajimobi had seen it to be like that, there wouldn’t be any issue surrounding Trans Amusement Park today. It is a lesson for our leaders of today and those willing to lead
In virtually all aspects of Governance, Governor Seyi Makinde has proved to be an excellent governor and a pragmatic leader that would not only do things for the betterment of the people and the state but a leader ready to take Oyo State to where it ought to be.

Oyo State Government has concluded plans to empower traders, artisans and other small business owners with N500m as part of efforts to mitigate the effects of subsidy removal on the residents of the State.
The N500million loan is a component of the Sustainable Actions for Economic Recovery (SAfER) initiated by Governor Seyi Makinde, FNSE in the wake of fuel subsidy removal and the floating of the exchange rate, which resulted in a steep rise in prices of commodities. This is with a view to stabilizing the people and boost the economy.
The SME loan support which comes at a single-digit interest rate and with a flexible repayment plan is for all categories of micro and small-scale business owners. Interested small and micro-businesses in the State should pick up the form for free in designated Microfinance banks in each of the seven geo-political zones in the state.
The Microfinance banks are:
1. Full range Microfinance Bank, Old Zenith Bank Building, Iwo Road, Ibadan.
2. Isale Oyo Microfinance Bank, Oyo town.
3. Excel Microfinance Bank, Eruwa.
4. NUT Oke Bola Microfinance Bank, Oke Ado, Ibadan.
5. Caretakers MicroFinance Bank, Caretaker, Ogbomoso.
In as much as Chief Obafemi Awolowo has been remembered for his lofty landmarks in the transformation of the southwest even after decades, I strongly believe that the Governor Seyi Makinde would be remembered after 2027 because the two personalities are like five and six.
Findings from the expert opinions, interviews in the national dailies, and documentaries revealed how the triumphs of the heroes are codified as a legacy for the coming generations to read as history. Many people didn’t live to witness or see the lives and works of many great Nigerians but read about such as Nigeria’s first president, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, a pioneer in the country’s fight for independence. He is known as “Zik”; Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa was a Nigerian politician who served as the first and only prime minister of Nigeria; Sir Ahmadu Bello was a prominent Nigerian politician who served as the first Premier of Northern Nigeria from 1954 to 1966. Known as the Sardauna of Sokoto; Chief Obafemi Awolowo was one of Nigeria’s foremost statesmen who played a key role in Nigeria’s independence and history. His achievements include the following:
As Premier of Western Nigeria (1952-1959), he introduced free primary education and free health care for all in 1955. He also founded Nigeria’s first indigenous TV station in Ibadan called the Western Nigerian Television (WNTV). Several cities have been named after him, and his face has been gracing the 500 naira note since 2001.
University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University) is named after him. He promoted indigenous industry, agriculture, and infrastructure development across Western Nigeria; Chief Anthony Enahoro was one of Nigeria’s foremost anti-colonial and pro-democracy activists. He played a key role in Nigeria’s independence movement; Sir Herbert Macaulay, a prominent figure in Nigeria’s history, was a nationalist, politician, and social activist; Gen. Murtala Ramat Muhammed was a military ruler of Nigeria from 1975 until his assassination in 1976; Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola, also known as M.K.O Abiola, was a Nigerian businessman, publisher, and politician. He ran for president in 1993 and is widely regarded as the presumed winner of the election. However, the results were annulled by Ibrahim Babangida.
Just like I wrote in one of my previous articles entitled ” Seyi Makinde: Why Are You Moving Quickly?” His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde fondly called GSM has not forgotten to forget about his part of the history that will linger forever in Oyo State and beyond. The commissioning of the 38.85KM Oyo-Iseyin road project and the Iseyin Campus of LAUTECH (The College of Agricultural Sciences and Renewable Natural Resources) will make him to be remembered beyond 2027.
Women’s inclusion in government will be forgotten so on, two Secretaries to the state government (SSG) on the bounce, the first-ever female commissioner for youth and sports, and even the President has equally nominated a woman for the same position at the national level and other key positions, are you asking me again how this will linger people’s memory?
The 110km Ibadan circular road is segmented into four sections, namely South-East(32.2km); North- East(20.8km); North-West(33.0km), and South-West(24.0km) is a by-pass for travelers, goods, and freight commuting through Ibadan along the Lagos/ Ibadan Expressway linking Ibadan/ Ife Expressway, Oyo, Ogbomoso, Ilorin geographically situated within Ibadan via Egbeda, Ona-Ara, Lagelu, Akinyele, Ido, and Oluyole local government areas. This simply means that the travelers coming from Lagos going to other states, like Osun, Ondo, Ekiti, Abuja, and others will no longer pass through the Ibadan Iwo Road axis, but will rather boycott the entire Iwo Road traffic congestion by passing through the state-owned Technical University along Lagos/Ibadan Expressway and come out few kilometers to Asejire Bridge on Ibadan/Ife road.
The main purpose of the road is to ease the traffic flow in Ibadan and open up another corridor for economic activities in the state. Twenty years after it was conceived, Engr. Seyi Makinde being a visionary leader saw the need to actualise the dreams of many Oyo residents by awarding the Ibadan circular road to a competent construction firm in 2022. The 110-kilometer road was named after the former governor of the state, Senator Rashidi Ladoja by Engr. Seyi Makinde in honour of the former governor (Ladoja) who conceived the project when he was the governor of the state will no doubt bring more development to Oyo State when completed and you are telling me that this huge project will not carry GSM’s name till eternity?
Are you saying that the prospective economic boom in Iseyin and Oke-Ogun axis would not last beyond 2027? The governor, while addressing the people of the town, said that locating the college in Iseyin was a strategic decision. He also insisted that the decision to make LAUTECH a multi-campus institution was also taken to achieve accelerated development for the state.
According to him: “The zone will be opened to more economic activities as about 1,533 students resume at the college in the next few weeks. Let me mention that this commissioning of the LAUTECH Iseyin Campus in Iseyin exemplifies what happens when we have existing infrastructure, whether physical or administrative, to build on.
“We used to have one and a half universities when we came in; the Technical University and half of LAUTECH because it was jointly owned by Oyo and Osun states. But today, we have doubled the institutions, as we now have the Technical University, which is fully owned by Oyo State, and the LAUTECH and Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, which is also fully owned by Oyo State.”
He said further: “It is not just about all of these universities, but the fact that what we have done is to use our available resources to achieve our vision. Building on that, we took a multi-campus approach to expand LAUTECH. To ensure both campuses of LAUTECH are connected, we are constructing a brand new road, the 76.67km Iseyin-Fapote-Ogbomoso Road, which is about 80 percent done, and I will come back here to commission that road before the end of this year.”

During the COVID-19 pandemic and there was a NEC meeting in Abuja, Makinde stood out to advocate that we could not afford to have a complete lockdown in Oyo State, and we all recall when Governor el-Rufai referring to that when he came to the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) some time ago, that they had a running battle. But at the end of the day, wisdom prevailed and each governor was allowed to determine what to do, and that was how we didn’t have a complete lockdown in Oyo State. Eventually, most of the decisions and initiatives Makinde utilized in dealing with the pandemic were ultimately adopted by the Federal Government.
Tell me how the civil servants would remember GSM just within 2027 alone when an unprecedented career progression radiates and radiated their engagements with his administration in terms of welfare and other packages such as uninterrupted payment of salaries and arrears, promotions among others.
If the sports complex of Adamasingba Stadium could eventually attract international competition as utilized by Nigeria’s sports authority then I wouldn’t know how this milestone would be forgotten in a jiffy.
The fact that the Rt. Hon. Speaker of the Oyo State House Assembly, Hon. Debo Ogundoyin became the chairman of the conference of the speakers in Nigeria which has elevated the status of the pacesetter’s state, tell me how this would make history not to remember GSM.
Dust-raising is of two types, positive and negative impacts, as people read about this piece about Makinde, they will judge whether he will be remembered beyond 2027 or not. But to me, this GSM of a man, who would be asked to further contribute his quota to the development of the country in different paths when he ceases to be the governor.

Recall that Ogundoyin became the first lawmaker in the state to emerge Speaker of the state assembly on successive term (2019–2023 till date) and has gone ahead to emerge as Chairman and leader of Nigeria Conference of Speakers unopposed.

In a statement made available to our correspondence Saturday during a media briefing, Hon Wasilat Adegoke stated that the Oyo-Iseyin-Fashoal Road will intensify the economy and social growth of Oyo State.
Hon Wasilat Adegoke while commending the Governor’s sterling performance explained that the 34.85km Oyo-Iseyin Road would add to the infrastructural progress in the State adding that Oyo State people have been enjoying pragmatic development in all sectors across zones.

“I commend the executive governor of Oyo state, Engr. Oluwaseyi Abiodun Makinde for reducing the infrastructural decay in the state through the newly commissioned 34.85km, Oyo-Fashola-Iseyin road.

Oyo Speaker, Hon Ogundoyin Emerges Chairman Of Nigeria Conference of Speakers
IBADAN – The 36-year-old Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Honourable Adebo Ogundoyin on Saturday emerged the new Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria.
Hon Ogundoyin, who is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, emerged at a national meeting of the Conference in Abuja following the withdrawal of the Speaker, Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon. Taiwo Oluomo from the race.
The appointment of Ogundoyin was thereafter confirmed through a unanimous voice vote by the speakers
in attendance at the Conference.
This was consequent upon the expiration of the two-year tenure of the leadership of the Speaker of Bauchi State House of Assembly, Hon Abubakar Suleiman.
The Constitution of the Conference stipulates a two year term of office for its elected leadership and this is rotated between the Northern and the Southern part of the country.
This time it is the turn of the Southern region to produce the Chairman of the Conference.
With this, the Oyo State Speaker has made history by becoming the youngest Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria since its establishment in 1999.
This is also the first time a member of an opposition party will emerge as the Chairman of the Conference.
In his acceptance speech, Oyo Speaker, Hon Adebo Ogundoyin expressed his willingness to selflessly serve the Conference.
“I therefore accept this honor with a great sense of gratitude, humility, responsibility and an overwhelming determination to selflessly serve this assemblage of highly revered Rt. Hon Speakers of Nigeria’s State legislatures.

The Vice Chairman of Ibadan North Local Government, Hon.Olaoluwa Akindele has described Governor Makinde as a man of integrity whose administration is characterized by moral principles and good performances.

While describing the Governor’s administration as impeccable, Hon Olaoluwa explained that Makinde’s administration is an all-inclusive one and has made the government closer to the residents of Oyo which is strange to what it used to be.
The Vice Chairman, however, prayed that Almighty God continues to give Makinde wisdom and grace to make life more comfortable for the people in the state and progress state respectively.
The governor gave the approval in a memo signed on Thursday, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by subsections 1 and 2 of the Chiefs’ Law, Cap. 28, Volume I, Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria, 2000.
According to a statement by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Honourable Olusegun Olayiwola, the approval is a culmination of a series of processes stipulated by the extant laws of the state regarding ascension to royal thrones.
The statement added that the governor congratulated the new Aseyin-Elect, praying that his tenure will usher in greater developments to Iseyin.
It is recalled that the governor is due to receive former President Olusegun Obasanjo in the state, on Friday, to commission the 34.85 kilometres Oyo-Iseyin Road and the newly-constructed LAUTECH College of Agriculture and Renewable Natural Resources, Iseyin.

Tribunal Orders Supplementary Poll In Two Oyo Wards
The National and State Assembly Election Petition Tribunal for Oyo State ordered a rerun election for the Saki West state constituency on Thursday in Ibadan.
INEC had earlier declared Mr Shittu Ibrahim of the All Peoples Congress (APC) the winner of the election held on March 18.
It declared that Ibrahim scored 13,692 votes to defeat the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Julius Okedoyin, who scored 13,422 votes.
Dissatisfied with the declaration, Okedoyin and the PDP headed to the tribunal, alleging over-voting, irregularity, and non-compliance with electoral guidelines.
Delivering a unanimous ruling of the three-man panel, its chairman, Justice Jubril Anaja, held that the petition had merit and that the petitioners proved their allegations beyond reasonable doubt.
Anaja ruled that the cancellation of results from Ward 6 Unit 7 and Ward 11 Unit 19 of the constituency, with 1,285 voter cards collected, could substantially affect the outcome of the election.
The tribunal noted that whereas the declared winner led the petitioner by 270 votes in Ward 6, Unit 7, and Ward 11, Unit 19, the number of voters disenfranchised was more than 1,000.
It held that the more than 1,000 voters disenfranchised by INEC in the affected wards might have overturned the result if they were allowed to vote.
“The certificate of return issued to the first respondent (Ibrahim) by INEC is hereby set aside pending the re-run election to determine the winner of the election for the Saki West constituency.
“INEC is hereby ordered to conduct a re-run election in Ward 6, Unit 7, and Ward 11, Unit 19 within 90 days,’’ Anaja declared.
Reacting, Ibrahim’s counsel, Mr Sikiru Adewoye, said his client would appeal against the judgement of the tribunal.
Conversely, the petitioners’ counsel, Mr. Yusuf Ogunrinde, commended the tribunal.

Oyo State governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, on Thursday, swore-in the duo of Dr. Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi and Miss Wasilat Adegoke as Commissioners for Health and Youths & Sport, respectively, charging them to key into his vision for the sustainable development of the state.
Makinde equally charged the new commissioners not to be afraid of taking actions in their respective Ministries, stating that it is important for all members of the state’s Executive Council to study and understand the objectives of the Roadmap for the Sustainable Development of Oyo State, 2023-2027 and to key into the same in their respective Ministries.
Speaking at the Executive Chamber of the Governor’s Office, the governor added that the swearing-in of the duo was a fulfillment of his promise to increase the number of female commissioners under Omituntun 2.0.
He added that the administration has achieved greatly in the health and sport sectors where the two new commissioners have been assigned.
He noted, however, that the government would consolidate the achievements by completing key projects such as the final phase of the 351 Primary Health Centres and the second phase of the remodelled Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Adamasingba, Ibadan.
He said: “This swearing-in is a ceremony but your work is not ceremonious. As you are aware, health is one of the pillars of this administration. Under Omituntun 1.0, we worked towards resolving the issue of the infrastructure deficit in our healthcare system. Well, I can say we sorted that problem up to about 50 to 60 per cent. But there is more to be done.
“So, I expect that our new Commissioner for Health will take the bull by the horns.
“As I said during the stakeholders’ meeting on the 2024 Budget, which was held last Monday, we have the money to build Category 3 Primary Health Centres in all our 351 wards. This is the reality we want to see accomplished in the shortest possible time.
“Well, the work we have to do is there. If you look at the Oyo State Road Map for Sustainable Development, 2023 -2027, you will also see promises that we have made there.
“By the way, I expect all members of the cabinet to read the document and assimilate the promises there as the minimum we will be doing for our people.”
The governor charged the new Commissioner for Health to work on seeing to the fulfilment of promises in the health sector, driving an increase in revenue through the Oyo State Health Insurance Agency and upgrading the tertiary healthcare infrastructure in the state, among others.
Addressing the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, the governor stated that his administration remained committed to harnessing the potential of the teeming youth population in the state.
“We have the Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Adamsingba. We have completed the remodelling of phase 1, which is the stadium. And there is also a tennis court in there, which will host a world-class tennis event. So, maintaining that facility should be a priority.
“We also want to complete the second phase of that project, which will provide facilities for other sports such as tennis, badminton, swimming and so on.
“One thing that I think you should also make a top priority is this, the Oyo State athletes did well at the last National Sports Festival and we promised to motivate them by paying them some money.
“I believe the next exco meeting is going to be the first Tuesday in October, I hope that you and the Commissioner for Finance will be able to report to us that the payment has been made.”
The governor, however, warned Miss Adegoke not to put all the focus on the sport component while neglecting the youth sector, saying: “Do not focus all your energy on Sports alone. There is the youth development aspect of your Ministry as well.
“Under youth empowerment, you should go through the roadmap, find the point of intersection between your Ministry and other Ministries and approach them for collaboration.
“Our promises here are mostly focused on technology and education. So, I want to see more collaboration like we had this weekend, where we supported the Ibadan Tech Expo, and I also look forward to seeing your strategy for getting a tuition-free university education for youths, who have excelled in sports.
“Of course, we are here to offer you what you may need because we know there are a lot of things that have to be done. I also know that just like me, this is not a path you have walked before but don’t be afraid. Make your mistakes and we will forgive you but I won’t forgive you for not taking action at all.”
While appreciating Governor Makinde for the opportunity given to the duo, the Commissioner for Health, Dr Ajetunmobi assured that she and her colleague would work assiduously to deliver on the mandate and vision of the governor.

A social rights activist, Aisha Yesufu, has explained why President Bola Tinubu will never be her president.
Yesufu, a supporter of the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi in the just-concluded General Election made this known in a ‘Mic On’ podcast titled, ‘The PEPC Judgment: Hopes met or dashed’ hosted by Channels TV presenter, Seun Okinbaloye, on Saturday night.
Yesufu was quoted as saying that Tinubu allegedly rigged his way into the presidency and on that basis will never be seen as her president.
“Tinubu did not win the 2023 presidential election and will never be my president because he rigged his way to be declared the one with the majority votes. And as for me, that is a political coup. That is a civilian coup and it is the mandate of the people that was stolen.
“My focus and other Nigerians now is to ensure getting the mandate back.”
She added that even the Presidential Election Petition Court that gave the verdict that President Tinubu lawfully won the election held on February 25 was wrong, adding, “I stayed for over 13 hours in the court and I heard all the judgement read by the Supreme Court justices. It was all a movie.”
“And there was a trailer before the movie, it began when the former Supreme Court justice, Mary Odili spoke. It already preempted what we expected.”
She further said that the whole process began getting fishy when PEPC declined that the proceedings be aired live from the beginning until the judgment day and failed to show the faces of the justices.
“There was a need for people to see how it has been going rather than just hearing the judgment only.
“The joy in the faces of the judges showed that they were biased. They acted more like counsels to the respondents (President Tinubu, All Progressives Congress and VP Kashim Shettima),” she alleged.
Yesufu said she believed that the judiciary is compromised while making reference to the issues of card readers not being admissible in the court while espousing Nyesom Wike and Peter Dakuku’s case in Rivers State.
“The politicians always believe that they control the court that is why they are quick to tell people to go to court if they are satisfied with the results of elections.”
Speaking on the ‘Eyes on the Judiciary’ being productive on the judgment, Aisha said it was, adding that Nigerians have taken it upon themselves to tell the court that they would not allow nefarious acts in the court.
Recall that a five-member panel of the Tribunal took turns to dismiss the petitions presented by the Peoples Democratic Party and its candidate, Atiku Abubakar; the Labour Party and its candidate, Peter Obi; against the declaration of Tinubu as the winner of the presidential election on Wednesday.
The judgment was delivered by the Chairman of the tribunal, Justice Haruna Tsammani, assisted by other members of the panel-Justices Stephen Adah, Monsurat Bolaji-Yusuf, Moses Ugo and Abba Mohammed.
Delivering the death knell to Atiku’s petition on Wednesday night, Tsammani stated, “This petition accordingly lacks merit.
“I affirm the return of Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the duly elected President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The parties are to bear their cost.”
This is contained in a statement signed by its Chairman, Aare Islakia Abiola Olagunju.
The Commission had in April 29, 2023 announced its readiness to conduct another local government election in the state next year. Eaglessightnews recalls.

Ondo State Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has resumed his duty after returning from Germany on Thursday, September 7th, after a 3months medical vacation.
Recall that in the Governor’s letter of 4th June 2023, which was written to the State House of Assembly, had informed of his proceeding on medical leave and later extended it indefinitely on 4th July 2023 following the doctor’s advice on the need for him to take adequate rest after recuperating.
But the Speaker Ondo State House of Assembly, Olamide Oladiji, who received the letter on behalf of his co-lawmakers on Friday, said Governor Akeredolu has forwarded a letter of his resumption from medical vacation to the State House of Assembly.
According to Oladiji, the governor’s action is in line with Section 190(1)of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).
“According to the letter received today during the Parliamentary meeting of the House, the Governor resumed duty today, Friday, 8th September, 2023.
“The governor, in his letter, expressed gratitude to the lawmakers for their good wishes,” Oladiji said.
He said the governor expressed appreciation to God for bringing him back home hale and hearty and the entire people of Ondo State are glad to see him back in office.
Meanwhile, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Richard Olatunde, in a statement made available to journalists on Friday in Akure, said upon his return, Akeredolu convened a meeting with key stakeholders from Ondo State in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, where he landed.
The statement reads further; “Stakeholders present at the meeting included members of the State House of Assembly, led by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Oladiji Olamide; Members of the State Executive Council, led by the Deputy Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa; National Assembly members, led by Senator Jide Ipinsagba; and Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) State Working Committee, led by the Chairman, Engr. Ade Adetimehin.
“Other were: youth groups, led by the Ondo APC Youth Leader, Comrade Olawande Ayo Wisdom; Former Local Government Chairmen, led by Hon. Augustine Ogbesetore; and members of the Foundation of Wives of Ondo State Officials (FOWOSO).
“The wife of the Governor, Chief Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, also joined the Governor to receive the FOWOSO members.
“During the meeting, Governor Akeredolu formally handed over his resumption letter to the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Olamide and also provided a copy to the Deputy Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, who was in attendance.
“Governor Akeredolu said, “I came back yesterday, and as you know, it was a long journey. I decided that I must meet with you today. God has answered our prayers, and we give Him all the glory.”
“I can assure you that our return is to the glory of God and the prayers of all of you here, and those who wished us well, I thank you very much. God has done what the majority of our people wanted. Majority of our people here knelt down and prayed for our return, and we have returned.

“Governor Akeredolu, while meeting with members of the State Executive Council, informed them that he had presented his letter of resumption to the Speaker of the State House of Assembly.
“He thanked the Executive Council members for their prayers and the good work they had done while he was on medical vacation.
Lere Olayinka, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former aide to ex-Ekiti Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has asked the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, to go and rest, stressing that it is time for younger Nigerians to lead the party.
Olayinka, who was the PDP House of Representatives candidate for Ekiti Central Federal Constituency II in the 2023 National Assembly election, said the PDP should blame itself for losing the presidential election.
He said this while speaking on a Television Continental (TVC) program on Thursday and Silverbird Television programme, NewsHub on Friday morning, on the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal judgment, which affirmed the election of President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Olayinka said that he did not expect anything different from the tribunal, saying that “it is a waste of time going to court to challenge an election the PDP should have won so easily”.
“How do you prove malpractices in an election held in over 176,000 polling units when it is mandatory that you must call witnesses in all polling units where you alleged irregularities? For instance, if you claimed irregularities in 10,000 polling units, how do you bring 10,000 party agents to the court to give evidence?” he asked.
Speaking further, Olayinka said, “Therefore, it is better to do all that you must do within the ambit of the law to win instead of waiting to lose and go to the Tribunal.”
He pointed out that opposition parties, especially the PDP had all the chance to win the election, but bungled the opportunity, adding that “disjointed opposition has never been victorious against any ruling party”.
He continued, “When you choose to sacrifice five governors for a single National Chairman, you should know that the result will be a failure.
“And after planning to fail, you now want the court to help you remedy your own failure? Who does that?
“Look at the Presidential Election results and tell me how Tinubu’s APC would have won if the PDP had played its game well.
“You chose a single National Chairman over and above Governors Nyesom Wike, Seyi Makinde, Samuel Ortom, Okezie Ikpeazu and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi. You lost former Governors like Ayo Fayose in Ekiti, Jonah Jang in Plateau, Ibrahim Shema in Katsina, as well as several sitting National Assembly members.
“You chose to suspend and expel National Assembly candidates of the party. You were more interested in what you thought was taking State Party structures from major stakeholders of the party by dissolving State Party Excos. And some people were busy calling you President-in-waiting?
“So where are those praise singers now? Where are those who said that the likes of Wike, Fayose and others who stood by the PDP after the 2015 electoral loss were nobody? Were they even at the Tribunal on Wednesday? So painful!
“Most importantly, in 2015, it took the coming together of four opposition parties to defeat PDP.
“However, in 2023, the opposition was divided into three – PDP, Labour Party (LP) and New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP).
“In the presidential election, opposition PDP, LP and NNPP had a total of 14,582,740 while APC had 8,794,726 votes.
“The difference between APC votes and those of the opposition parties was 5,788,014, meaning that if the opposition parties had presented a common front, the election would have been won so easily.
“Therefore, rather than dissipate energies and resources, going from one court to the other in search of an electoral victory that the opposition threw away by itself, what should be happening is a rebuild towards 2027, with younger Nigerians taking the lead.”

The Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal, on Wednesday, upheld the election of President Bola Tinubu as the winner of the February 25 presidential election.
The five-man panel of the Tribunal was led by Justice Haruna Tsammani.
This development followed petitions filed by the Peoples Democratic Party and its presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar; the Labour Party and its candidate, Peter Obi, challenging the victory of Tinubu as the winner of the presidential election announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission on March 1.
Tinubu scored a total of 8,794,726 votes to defeat Atiku and Obi, who polled 6,984,520 and 6,101,533 votes, respectively.
The leadership of the Labour Party has rejected the outcome of Wednesday’s judgment at the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal after its petitions were dismissed by the Justice Haruna Tsammani-led panel.
The development is coming a few hours after the judges threw out the petitions filed by LP lawyers, which the court said was ‘clearly based on rhetoric.’
Some of the claims made by the petitioners included the nullification of the declaration of Tinubu as the winner of the election for failing to score 25 per cent in the FCT; Tinubu’s incompetence to contest the election following his forfeiture in the United States; and failure of the Independent National Electoral Commission to transmit results to INEC election results viewer among others.
Reacting in a statement issued in Abuja, National Publicity Secretary of LP, Obiora Ifoh, swore that the party will not accept the outcome of the judgment.
While urging all their supporters to remain calm, Ifoh further hinted that they would consult with their lawyers before the party could make its position known on the next step to take.
He said, “The Labour Party watched with dismay and trepidation the dismissal of petitions by the five-man panel of the Presidential Election Petition Court led by Justice Haruna Tsammani today and we reject the outcome of the judgment in its entirety because justice was not served and it did not reflect the law and the desire of the people.
“Nigerians were witnesses to the electoral robbery that took place on February 25, 2023, which was globally condemned but the Tribunal in its wisdom refused to accept the obvious. What is at stake is democracy and we will not relent until the people will prevail.
“We salute the doggedness of our team of lawyers who fearlessly exposed the wrath in our system. We can only weep for democracy in Nigeria but we refuse to give up on Nigeria. Details of the party’s position will be presented after consultation with our lawyers after the Certified True Copy of the judgement is made available to us. We urge all lovers of democracy to remain focused and hopeful because a new Nigeria is possible.”

Ahead of the delivery of the judgment of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal in Abuja on Wednesday, the military and the police have said they will not condone any unlawful action by troublemakers.
The Director, Defence Information, Brig. Gen. Tukur Gusau, warned those who might be planning to cause violence on that day to discard the idea.
The tribunal, in a statement on Monday, announced it would on Wednesday deliver judgment on the petitions challenging the declaration of Bola Tinubu as the winner of the 2023 presidential election by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
The Chairman of the INEC, Prof Mahmood Yakubu, had on March 1 declared Tinubu the president-elect because his party scored the majority of votes cast in the poll.
The tribunal justices who will deliver the verdict on Wednesday are the Chairman of the tribunal, Justice Haruna Tsammani; Justice Stephen Adah of the Court of Appeal (Asaba Division), Justice Monsurat Bolaji-Yusuf , Court of Appeal (Asaba Division), Justices Moses Ugo (Court of Appeal, Kano) and Abba Mohammed of the Ibadan Division of the Court of Appeal.
In the 2023 poll, the former Lagos State governor polled 8.8 million to defeat the Peoples Democratic Party standard bearer, Atiku Abubakar, who scored 6.9 million, Labour Party candidate, Peter Obi, who polled 6.1 million votes, and 15 other candidates.
However, five of the 18 political parties that participated in the elections turned to the court to contest the declaration by the electoral body.
Leading the charge against Tinubu’s electoral triumph are Atiku and Obi who have asked the tribunal to nullify the ex-Lagos governor’s victory in the February 25 presidential election.

Federal Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, has lauded Oyo State governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, for transforming the state since he took the reins of government.
Umahi, who paid a courtesy visit to the governor alongside officials of the Ministry, at the Governor’s Office, Secretariat, Ibadan, on Thursday, described Makinde as great evidence in infrastructure development, noting that the governor is one of the few governors putting the welfare of his people first.
According to Umahi, Governor Makinde deserved to be commended highly for not waiting to get a commitment for refund from the Federal Government before going ahead to fix federal roads in the state, adding that the interest and well-being of the people must always be first for those in government.
In his speech, Governor Makinde, appreciated Umahi for his kind words, stating that his appointment as Minister of Works was well-deserved and that he had no doubt that Umahi had the wherewithal to achieve success in the task, as his records as governor in Ebonyi State spoke for him.
The governor equally stated that his administration would always be committed to developing road infrastructure in the state, noting that once the state considers any federal road central to its economy, it would not be deterred by whether or not the Federal Government is ready to refund immediately.
He said his government had demonstrated that resolve with the reconstruction of the 34 kilometres Oyo-Iseyin Road, which according to him, would be commissioned by former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
Governor Makinde, who also commended the Federal Director of Highways in the state for cooperating with his administration, said: “I have been here for four years. For us, if a road is important to our economy, we just go ahead and do it. An example is the Oyo-Iseyin Road. It is a federal road, and it took us two years to get the approval. But the road is passing through our agribusiness hub. I visited the Minister of Works several times then. We had gone through the process of awarding the contract and we were going to spend up to N9bn and we had set aside the money.
“So, they gave us the approval to fix it but they said we should follow the federal standard. We gave it to the contractor and added an extra N1bn to the project and I am happy to tell you that the 34.85km project is going to be commissioned on September 15th.
“Former President Obasanjo is coming to commission the project. It will demonstrate to the country that for whatever is important to the people, one should not pass the buck. We are not asking for a refund straight away, but the records are there.
“Also, the one you mentioned from Ibadan to Ilesha, Ife Road, the road linking our airport. When we came in, we said we would need to fix the road. So, we approached the Federal Government, and it became an issue of funding.
“We said we would fund it and get a refund from the contractor as funds became available to the Federal Government. The bottom line is that the road is very important to us. 19km is on our own side but the one we awarded is about 5.6km, which we paid for.”
Speaking earlier, former Governor Umahi said he was in the South-West to inspect Federal Government infrastructure projects.
He said: “I am very proud to call you Engineer Seyi Makinde, the governor of Oyo State. I am happy to be here. Let me use this opportunity to congratulate you on your well-deserved reelection victory and I am not surprised with what you have been doing, being an Engineer.
“Since you have been in the saddle, anyone who comes to Oyo State will see the massive transformation. Congratulations.
“I am touring all the projects of the Federal Government in the South-West. I have had meetings with all the contractors handling our projects across the country. After such meetings, I needed to physically inspect those projects, offer advice and have total information of what is going on and also ascertain the quality of the work being done.
“Let me first commend you for the jobs you are doing in Oyo State, and I will continue to say this; we have what we call the Law of Evidence and Law of Witness. You have become our Law of Evidence and Law of Witness in alleviating the sufferings of the people without saying this is a federal or state road.”

The leadership of the People’s Democratic Party in Oyo State has responded to the allegations of diversion of N2b palliative fund and food items donated by the federal government to the state government to mitigate the effects of the removal of fuel subsidy on the people of Oyo State.
In a statement issued in Ibadan by the Acting Publicity Secretary of the Party, Mr Ogunsina Michael, he described the APC in Oyo State as a dead party that seeks relevance by clutching onto cheap attention by toiling the path Oyo State people rejected them for in two consecutive (2019 and 2023) elections governorship elections.
According to him, “while the PDP could choose to ignore the cries of the Oyo APC as that of a baby in need of attention, we could not afford to let them mislead and misinform the good people of the State and Nigeria in general. We owe it as a duty to the people of the State to keep them abreast of the activities of the government.
“It is such a shame that APC in Oyo State would choose to attack the PDP led government in the State that has been putting measures in place to cushion the effect of removal of petroleum subsidy and its attendant effects on the people of Oyo State.
” It is highly imperative to note that the PDP led Oyo State government is deliberate about delivering a better life for all residents and citizens of Oyo State and this is exemplified by the very meticulous, careful and intentional way the Oyo State Government is going about its palliative distribution, instead of the APC to cover their faces in shame and learn from Governor Seyi Makinde maybe they can have an upgrade to their infantile knowledge about matters of governance and the state, they are busy grabbing at the last straw.”
Since the removal of the fuel subsidy, Oyo State Government has kept the people informed about the palliative measures already put in place, part of which is the expanded services of Omituntun buses to all the seven administrative zones of the State which have seen the buses conveying people from different parts of the State at a ridiculously State subsidized fare. Pensioners are already being reached out to and registered into Oyo State Health Insurance Scheme, farmers across the State are being provided with farm inputs so as to ensure food security in Oyo State
The Governor has also communicated to the people and in his address, he already made it known to the public that the State government is in receipt of N2 Billion from the Federal government and 3000 bags of rice from the Federal Government while the state government has included additional 37,000 bags of rice.
Moreso, the government will be giving out low interest loan facility to the tune of N500m to traders, artisans and other categories of people who fall into SMEs and another N500m to farmers who could not benefit from the farm inputs distribution and youths in agropreneurial.
“We implored the APC to keep its ears to the ground as from today Wednesday 30th of August as the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr Seyi Makinde will be flagging off distribution of food palliatives in Oyo town, a process that will run across the seven political zones of the state.
“We know that all of this is strange to the APC because the party is never a serious party, even when they held sway for 8(Eight) years, all they did was to share the State commonwealth amongst themselves and we also understand that the APC is not interested in the business of governance but throwing tantrums just to be seen for the fun of it.
“As a party and government that is committed to the welfare of the people, we urge the people of Oyo State to disregard the cry of the APC as a party struggling for attention and redemption.
” if the APC will not be too arrogant to accept, the People’s Democratic Party in Oyo State will be willing to offer the party a refresher course in governance and public communications.
The Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade disclosed to the press that eight billion, six hundred and thirty-three million, nine hundred and ninety-six thousand, four hundred and sixty-four naira (8,633,996,464.00) was budgeted for palliatives by the Sustainable Action for Economic Recovery (SAfEr) committee in the State.
The commissioner also added that the local government areas added the sum of two billon, six hundred and thirty-six million, eight hundred and seventy-one thousand, five hundred naira (2,636,871,500) into the food palliatives while the state government also released five billion, nine hundred and ninety-seven million, one hundred and twenty-four thousand, nine hundred and sixty-four naira (5,997,124,964).
“Armed robbery appears to be on a good decline with about 45/50% decline,” Oyo State Police Command had said in a 2021 letter to Oyo State governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde. The letter stated further that “Oyo State actually recorded lower armed robbery cases in 2020, compared to what it was in 2019. The statistics in 2019 showed a total number of 182 while 123 was recorded in 2020.”
Corroborating the position of the police, the Oyo State Commandant of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Adaralewa Michael, also in 2021, noted that there had been a slide in criminality in the state.
He said, “The last time I checked the index, it has been different from what I met on the ground, so generally Oyo State has been experiencing a relative peace.”
Similarly, the Committee of Retired Inspectors General of Police, during a retreat held at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), Ibadan last week, said that one of the reasons it opted to hold its programme in Ibadan was the peaceful atmosphere that pervades the state.
So, despite the rising wave of crimes and violence in the country, Oyo State has, over the years, transmogrified from the hotbed of violence and criminality to the habitation of peace and security. Although the state is not completely crime-free, it has witnessed so much improvement in the area of security that it is much safer than it used to be. But the journey to this transformed state did not happen overnight, it is the outcome of a persistent and consistent commitment of Governor Seyi Makinde who has invested immense mental energy, funds and time to ensure the reduction of criminality to the bare minimum in the state for the benefit of the citizens, residents and travelers.
How did Governor Makinde achieve an almost 180 degrees turnaround in the security situation in the state? How has Makinde been able to change Oyo State from a place where farmers could not go to their farms for fear of being kidnapped to a state where farmers now smile to the banks after their hefty harvests? How did Makinde shift the attention of bank robbers away from the state? How did Makinde change Oyo from a state where gang war was rampant to a state where this has become few and far between?
Seven major factors are responsible for the improvement the state has witnessed in the area of security.
The first is that Governor Makinde understands that his primary responsibility is to ensure safety of lives and property in the state in accordance with Section 14(2) (b) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended). He knows that as the Chief Security Officer of the state he has to be atop of the security situation in the state. To this end, the governor set up a Security Task Force headed by him with key functionaries of the state government and heads of critical security units as members. The body meets regularly to assess the security situation in the state and moves swiftly to arrest any untoward situation in any part of the state. With this in place, the governor has up-to-date security information from all parts of the state and is able to nip any untoward situation in the bud.
Then the governor collaborates with security agencies. Right from the commencement of his administration, Governor Seyi Makinde has never hidden his readiness to collaborate with security agencies to ensure a safer Oyo State. The collaboration resulted in the establishment of the Police Mobile Force 72 Squadron in Ago Are, Atisbo Local Government area of the state. The Squadron has been vital to the peaceful atmosphere that exists in Oke Ogun zone of the state.
The governor’s collaboration with security agencies also culminated in the donation of a 58-hectare of land in Ajia by the state government to the Nigeria Air Force (NAF) to establish a permanent NAF Base. The project, which is under construction, would enhance NAF’s readiness and responsiveness to security challenges in the state when completed. The base is also expected to serve as an alternate airfield to Lagos airfield, thus enabling the NAF to launch seamless and efficient air operations in the Southwest Region of Nigeria.
In addition to these, Governor Makinde, shortly after his assumption of office in 2019, donated 100 patrol vehicles to security agencies in the state to ensure that all parts of the state were adequately monitored. Since then, more patrol vehicles have been donated by the state government to the security agencies. Consequently, security operatives are able to effectively patrol the state. The state government also announced penultimate week that another set of 105 vehicles would be donated to security agencies in the state to enhance their operations. Allied to this is the resuscitation of the Police Swift Response Squad (SRS) and reinvigoration of Operation Burst to strengthen the state’s security architecture.
Following the decision of South West governors to set up the Western Nigeria Security Network, codenamed Amotekun, Governor Makinde immediately set the machinery in motion to establish the network in the state. The Amotekun officers and men are well trained, well equipped, well remunerated and well motivated. Hence, they have played a critical role in securing the state.
Governor Makinde, while inaugurating the body’s new board recently, poured encomium on the security outfit, saying, “The Amotekun policing meant that they are often the first necessity of defence for our rural communities. If we go through Amotekun’s accomplishments under Omituntun 1.0, we will see that they are a strong reason why our farmers in rural communities are able to return to their farms without fear of attack. They recorded huge successes in stopping kidnappings, motor-bike snatching, burglaries, illegal mining and fraud. We have a record of 10 kidnapping rescues that were carried out by the Amotekun Corps between June 2021 and May 2022.”
Another factor engendering security in Oyo State is the Light-Up project. The project, which covers well over 250 kilometers across the state, keeps the streets aglow even at night. This has become a source of deterrence to criminally-minded people who can no longer hide under the cover of darkness to give vent to their evil intentions.
The governor has also democratised security by enlisting the support and cooperation of traditional rulers to get intelligence that could be used to fight all forms of criminality. Governor Makinde also encouraged traditional rulers to take the message of placing premium on securing the state to their communities. This has heightened the consciousness of the citizens who readily avail security agencies of intelligence about those perpetrating crimes in their communities. The governor also mandated local government chairmen to hold regular security meetings so as to be abreast of security challenges in their area with a view to addressing same without any delay.
The governor also deployed technology to enhance security in the state. There is a toll free number that residents can call in time of distress. The facilities at the Security Control Room and the City Watch have been scaled up to enable security operatives monitor activities across the capital city, while there are CCTV cameras in strategic places, especially in the capital city.
Governor Makinde knows that as important as security is, it is not an end in itself; it is a means to an end. The purpose of providing security is to emplace a conducive environment for businesses to thrive. That has been the experience in Oyo State. The state’s huge investment in security has not only enabled the citizens to sleep with their two eyes closed, it has also boosted the state’s economy.
Over the past four years, the number of enterprises within the state has grown to 1,872,941 with the bulk of them in the capital city. This is one of the reasons a United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) research ranked Ibadan as the second fastest growing city in Africa, citing industrialisation, urbanisation and economic activities as reasons for the growth.
The state has also attracted private investments of over N27 billion in agribusiness as well as $65million foreign direct investment. Similarly, the state’s internally generated revenue (IGR) hovers around N4billion monthly while the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) has grown by 50 per cent in four years.
As good as all these are, they are not the ultimate for Governor Seyi Makinde whose dream is to turn the state, starting from the capital city, into a 24-hour economy to create more employment opportunities, optimise resource utilisation and provide higher quality of life for the people of the state.

The assertion that 62% of 1,714 Nigerians sampled in the six geopolitical zones hold the belief that the nation is progressing under this regime of Tinubu, even in the face of prevailing economic hardships, is nothing more than a deceptive statistical mirage – complete statistical fallacy. The survey in question, as reported by The Cable, was purportedly orchestrated by CMC Connect LLP, a public perception consultancy and strategic communication firm based in Lagos, in collaboration with Analysts Data Services and Resources (ADSR).
This statistical interpretation and subsequent analysis reek of a familiar and age-old ploy—a mere illusion to shroud the simmering discontent that bubbles beneath the surface of the masses.
This discontent has found resonance and expression in the recent fervent response witnessed during the protests led by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC).
It’s worth noting that these expressions of dissent also emanate from pockets of ordinary individuals, including both men and women, predominantly from the Northern region of the country—a segment of the population not commonly associated with overt acts of public disobedience.
The duplicity inherent in these statistics becomes glaring when one delves into the manner in which the data was initially presented. The architects of this manipulation deploy their artful tricks to impress and obfuscate. They lay claim that 62% of the 1,714 participants, drawn from the six geopolitical zones, are in agreement that the current administration, despite its ruinous trajectory, will propel the country forward. Yet, they conveniently overlook the undeniable truth exposed by their own survey—a dissenting 38%, coupled with a significant undercurrent of indifference.

However, when this carefully selected sample is projected onto the broader canvas of the entire population, the true picture begins to emerge. 38% of the entire Nigerian populace, estimated at 213.4 million, amounts to a staggering 81,191,200 individuals. This number assumes a position of profound significance when juxtaposed against the backdrop of the 133 million Nigerians languishing in the clutches of multidimensional poverty, as reported by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).
Furthermore, the mosaic of this survey is marred by notable omissions—critical components such as the suspension of Godwin Emefiele from his role as governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), the sidelining of Abdulrasheed Bawa as the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and the controversial removal of petrol subsidies are shrouded in deliberate silence.
These omissions serve as a testament to a strategic maneuver aimed at steering the interpretation of results in a predetermined direction, one that conveniently disregards vital elements of the narrative.
Indeed, I concur that this survey serves as a reflection of a complex and multifaceted consciousness that permeates the population—a consciousness born of intricate social and economic dynamics that extend far beyond mere statistical facades.

Ahead of the forthcoming 2024 Local Government Election in Oyo state, communities, landlord associations and other political interest groups have endorsed the chairmanship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oluyole, Akeem Olatunji as their preferred choice.
The endorsement took place last weekend at a program organized by Ire-Akari General Landlords and Landlady’s Association, as well as Ayetoro comprising over 200 community.
Among others in attendance at the epochal program include Imam Qamardeen Tijani as the Spiritual father of the day, Chief Adenrele Amoo as father of the day, as well as Ire-Akari General Electoral Committee (IGEC) Chairman, Adedeji Ademola.
The Joint Communities President of Aiyetoro comprising over 200 communities, Alhaji Abideen Aderonmu Olaide, described Olatunji as a humane politician worthy of emulation by other younger politicians assuring that the communities would work for Olatunji’s electoral victory come April, 2024.
The General Chairman of Ire Akari General Landlords and Landlady’s Association Alhaji Ismaheel Aremu who commended Olatunji’s approach to politics and humility while delivering his address urged the PDP candidate not to derail from sustaining the personality that has endeared him to many.
While also commending Governor Seyi Makinde for his transformational policies and programs that have brought about rapid development in Ibadanland and other parts of the state, Alhaji Aremu expressed confidence that Olatunji’s administration as the next council chairman would attract more development to Oluyole.
In his remarks, Olatunji, overwhelmed with joy expressed gratitude to the community and religious leaders for their public show of support.
Olatunji also assured that he would domesticate Governor Makinde’s Omititun 2.0 Sustainable Development agenda in Oluyole and ensure even spread of dividends of democracy at the grassroots.
While expressing appreciation to Governor Seyi Makinde for the opportunity given him as well as other youths aspiring for leadership roles within the political arena, Olatunji said, “the governor has made himself a staircase through which youths and women aspiring to take up leadership roles to rise to the peak of their political careers.”
The former Publicity Secretary of PDP in Oyo state said Makinde by his achievements so far in politics and governance has made himself a political institution and a nationalist whose records of success would continue to resonate for generations to come.
While speaking with journalists shortly after the program, Olatunji said he is committed to diligently following as a core disciple of what he described as the Makinde’s political institution adding that if elected as the executive chairman come next year, his administration would among other things, key into the state’s Agribusinesses Development agenda as one of the drivers of the local government’s economy.
“I can not thank our leaders, our fathers and mothers enough for this show of love and support, it means the little things we do as politicians are being noticed by these leaders and elders and I can assure you that with God on our side, we would remain committed to the Oluyole project.
“Their endorsement of my candidacy means alot to me as a politician because I know their weight is huge and when thrown behind a candidate, such person can be assured of electoral victory, therefore, we will continue to take our message of sustainable development agenda to every home and household for their support.

Governor of Oyo State, ‘Seyi Makinde, will host the 12 former retired Inspectors-General of Police, under the aegis of the Committee of Retired Inspectors-General of Police, in Ibadan, for a three-day retreat starting today, August 21, 2023.
The retired IGPs will converge on the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), Ibadan, for a retreat on how the ex-police chiefs can contribute strategically to effective policing in the country.
Governor Makinde noted that the Committee’s decision to hold the maiden edition of the retreat attests to the pacesetting status of Oyo State and the good work his administration has been doing in the area of security.
He said: “On behalf of the Government and good People of Oyo State, I welcome the Committee of Retired Inspectors-General of Police to Ibadan, the capital of the Pacesetter State, as the body holds its maiden retreat beginning from 21st August to 23rd August, 2023, at the IITA, Ibadan.

The Chairmanship Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oluyole local government, Akeem Olatunji received a rousey welcome by party faithful at the first party meeting at the Local Government.
The Chairman of PDP in Oluyole, Alhaji Mukaila Adegbola, in his welcome address at the meeting held at the Idi-ayunre party Secretariat described Olatunji as an ‘Omoluabi’ who has continued to make Oluyole proud at the state level.
While rallying more support for Olatunji ahead of the coming 2024 local government election, Alhaji Adegbola urged Olatunji not to change from his ways and style of politics which endeared him to most of the party leaders, elders and stakeholders in Oluyole.
He noted that the rousey welcome given to Olatunji was a message indicating love and unity of purpose stressing the need for sustained party cohesion and protection of Governor Makinde’s legacy of good governance particularly in the local government.

The recent development according to a report sighted by journalists was contained in a circular letter signed by the Secretary to the Oyo State Government, Prof. Olanike K. Adeyemo which was sighted . The letter reads:

“Towards this end, Monday 21 August, 2023 has been declared as the maiden Public Holiday to commemorate this year’s festivity in the State.
” His Excellency has therefore requested that the occasion be used to pray for the peace, unity and stability of the State in particular, and the Country in general.
” Kindly give His Excellency’s approval, as conveyed, the widest publicity it deserves.
The Oyo State House of Assembly has announced names of members of all its 24 standing committees for the 10th Assembly.
The announcement according to Inside Oyo was made on Thursday during plenary by the Speaker, Hon. adebo Ogundoyin.
The Speaker said with the composition of the House Standing Committees, the 10th Oyo State House of Assembly is poised to function in full force.

MAKINDE inaugurates AMOTEKUN governing board, charges it to sustain Oyo’s economic growth
Oyo State governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, on Monday, inaugurated the 12-man Governing Board of the Oyo State Security Network Agency, codenamed Amotekun Corps, charging the Corps to work more so that the economic growth being experienced in the state can continue.

The governor, who commended the officers and men of the Corps for contributing to the security and order experienced in the state under Omituntun 1.0, said the body had collaborated well with the federal security agencies to maintain peace and security in the state.
Speaking while inaugurating the Board at the Exco Chamber of the Governor’s Office, Makinde said the new Board had “the right set of people that will continue to lead Oyo Amotekun on the path of sustainable development and on the path of cooperation with other security agencies within the state.”
The Board has 12 board members, with AIG Sikiru Akande (rtd). In his remarks, Makinde said that the Board was set up in conformity with the law and that its core mandate and primary responsibility is to make policy and administrative guidelines for the agency to perform optimally for development of the state.
According to the governor, the Amotekun Corps contributed to the huge success of his first term administration, as they worked tirelessly with other security agencies to make the state secure, especially in the rural communities.
The governor said: “We know that security is strongly linked to the development of any community. In fact, one of the core reasons why we witnessed accelerated development under Omituntun 1.0 is because Oyo Amotekun worked along with other security agencies to keep our state secure.
“The Amotekun policing meant that they are often the first necessity of defence for our rural communities. If we go through Amotekun’s accomplishments under Omituntun 1.0, we will see that they are a strong reason why our farmers in rural communities are able to return to their farms without fear of attack. They recorded huge successes in stopping kidnappings, motor-bike snatching, burglaries, illegal mining and fraud.
“We have a record of 10 kidnapping rescues that were carried out by the Amotekun Corps between June 2021 and May 2022.
“When we started, the Police being the leading agency for internal security in Nigeria were also apprehensive, saying who are these people and what is the state government trying to achieve? But, today, I am happy to say that the relationship between the Nigerian Police and Amotekun has become so cordial that they go out together to perform joint operations.”
The governor, who hailed the Commandant of the Amotekun Corps, Col. Olayinka Olayanju (rtd) for what the Corps members have been doing, said his administration will further equip and support the Corps to achieve greater successes under Omituntun 2.0.
“You will recall that just at the twilight of Omituntun 1.0, we increased the number of Corps members by 500. So, we now have about 2,000 Amotekun Corps members, and they are equally involved in community intelligence gathering. Still under 1.0, we supported the Amotekun Corps with a fleet of over 104,000 vehicles and 400 motorbikes.
“I must say I am proud of what the Commandant of the Corps is doing, and we will continue to provide the Corps with support in the form of training. I know we procured life insurance for members of the Corps in addition to providing specialist medical support, because we are aware of the sacrifices they continue to make for us.
“Our promise is to further equip you and support Oyo Amotekun under Omituntun 2.0. We know that the more we support the Corps, the greater their ability to perform. And with the Board firmly in place, they can serve as the link between government and the Oyo Amotekun Corps, and they can also set the right agenda with the involvement of the lead agencies – the Police, NSCDC, DSS.
“We have nothing to hide but just trying to collaborate with federal agencies to keep our state safe and secure, and we have seen the demonstration of this on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. Some have said once they get to the Ibadan border from Lagos, they are safe. So, we want to keep that up.
“As you already know, we have expanded the sectors that we will use to grow our economy. Under Omituntun 1.0, we focused mainly on the development of our infrastructure and agribusiness. But now, we have added tourism into the mix, which means we want people to keep coming to our state and they must be safe and secure.
“We also added solid minerals development. We know the challenges in that sector; the issue of illegal miners, people throwing dynamite every now and then to blast rock and all of that.
“So, the Corps will be challenged further as it will even be stretched. If I add the current issues that we are grappling with, which is the removal of subsidy on PMS and you have to drive around to cover the whole Oyo State, you need more.
“So, we need you to work even more so that our economy continues to grow faster than it did under Omituntun 1.0,” the governor added.
Speaking on behalf of the Board members, the chairman of the board, AIG Akande (rtd), appreciated the governor for appointing members who had performed credibly well at their different levels in the service of humanity into the Board.
He assured residents of the state that the Board will not fail in its mandate.

The newly sworn-in Executive Chairman of Ibadan North Local, Hon Waheed Akanbi, Biro, has felicitated all youths in Oyo State particularly in Ibadan North Local Government as the world celebrates International Youths Day (IYD). Eaglessightnews reports.
International Youth Day (IYD) is a day celebrated across the globe and designated purposely to create awareness and draw attention to a given set of cultural and legal issues surrounding youth.
In a statement made available to newsmen on Sunday, Hon Waheed charged youths in Oyo State, particularly in Ibadan North LG to be passionate and determined about their careers as they are now leaders of today.
According to Hon Waheed, he advised the young people to desist from thuggery, drug abuse, cultism, prostitution, and any activities that can jeopardize their health and future.
Hon Waheed Akanbi ‘Biro’ however, promised the youths in the Local Government of an all-inclusive support as prioritized by Gov Makinde within the few months left for him to use in the office.

The newly appointed Chairman of the Oyo State Pilgrims Welfare Board (Muslim wing), Alhaji Hashim Atere on Sunday appreciated the State Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde for his appointment.
Atere, an Ibadanman but Saudi-trained Islamic Scholar eulogized the Governor during a special prayer and congratulatory visit paid on him by some communities in Ibadanland.
The representatives of the Communities who thronged his residence on Sunday included people from Idigbaro-Ologuneru; Elenusonso; Alafara and Ile-Tuntun, all in Ibadan, the State capital.
The residents comprising Muslim faithful from the aforementioned areas, counseled and prayed for the success of the new Hajj Board Chairman.
Responding, Atere said his appointment to lead the Hajj Board has provided him the opportunity to bring to bear, his wonderful relationship amongst the Ulamas and his connection in the Saudi Arabia.
Atere specially thanked the State Governor for finding him worthy, stressing that ‘the Governor is a man with the fear of Allah who holds Islamic leaders and indeed Muslim adherents in a very high esteem.”
According to him, “but for the Governor’s respect for the Chief Imam of Ibadanland, Sheikh Abubakar Agbotomokekere, the appointment would have been practically impossible. But the Governor stood his ground and insisted that it must be Chief Imam’s nominee, hence my appointment.
“It is my sincere prayer to Almighty Allah that the Governor succeeds and overcome all challenges before him for the State to benefit more from his wonderful service to humanity.
“Please, let’s remember the State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde in our prayers on daily basis. The Governor though a Christian has shown that he has respect for the men of God as exemplified in what he has done to the Chief Imam of Ibadanland.
“Our Baba, the Chief Imam deserves our appreciation and prayers to live longer to continue to lead the Muslim communities in Ibadan and Oyo State in general. Help me to thank the Chief Imam when you pay him a visit, soon,” Atere charged the community members.
On his new position, Atere said he was ready to make the Governor proud by taking decisions in consultations with the Islamic leaders, board members and well spirited people around the Governor to reposition the board for greater and better service delivery.
Said he, “I am ready to make Oyo Hajj Board the best in Nigeria. And if it deserves sacrificing my salaries, I am ready to make a difference and justify the confidence of His Excellency.
“Since it is Allah’s will, grace and honour to pave way for me despite daunting obstacles and challenges prior to the announcement last Wednesday, I am a very young person and opportunities are still abound for me in future, I will therefore sacrifice my time, energy and resources to make remarkable changes on the board.
“All pending matters amongst on a number of intending pilgrims will be resolved and everybody will be proud of the Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board.
“I don’t fear death and I am ready to step on toes to make the board an enviable institution because my ultimate goal in life is to make heaven (Aljanah) and will not do anything to suffer the poor and favour the rich.
“From next week, we will change the environment at Olodo, Hajj secretariat for the better. I am ready to use my personal money to start-off my goals for the board and a top government official who I contacted said I can go ahead with my dreams even if it will demand my money and time to make a difference.
“I am not going there to make money but to make name for myself and make Muslims and government proud they have a reliable Hajj Board,” Atere said.
While seeking prayers, understanding and cooperation of all to succeed in this daunting tasks, Atere also assured that he would use the position to sacrifice for God and religion and not one to make himself richer at the expense of our people.

The governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has assured that his administration will continue to provide conducive environment for investors in the state.
Makinde stated this at the water salute ceremony to mark the inaugural flight of Green Africa Airways at the Ibadan airport, Alakia, on Saturday.
Represented by his deputy, Alhaji Abdul-raheem Adebayo Lawal, the governor said in the last four years, efforts had been made to improve the facilities at the airport, stressing that his administration had been able to open up the aviation industry in Ibadan and for that reason, “the airport now has a functional fuel dump which was commissioned a couple of months back.”
Makinde lauded Green Africa, saying its coming to the state would complement the existing services being provided by other airlines.
According to him: “Having seen the CEO, Mr Babawande Afolabi, I cannot but appreciate and commend him because he is a young, ebullient person and a pride to Oyo State because he was born and raised in the state.”
While assuring the management of the airline of the support of the state government, the governor said, “If you need anything, feel free to reach out to the government of Oyo State. You can always count on our support. As a matter of fact, since the inception of this administration, we have been trying to support businesses and we will continue to do so with a view to attracting businesses and investors because we want to make Oyo State the investment, tourism and human capacity development hub, not just for the South West but for the whole nation.
“So, on this note, once again, I want to congratulate you and I wish everyone that will be traveling with you continuous safe journey to and from Ibadan”.
Earlier in his remarks, the CEO of Gren Africa Airways, Mr Babawande Afolabi, said it was a wonderful pleasure to have Green Africa operating in Ibadan, where he was born.
He remarked that the primary goal of Green Africa Airways is to use the power of air travel to create a better future, stressing that having the airline operating in Ibadan is a reflection of that goal.
“So right now, between Lagos and Ibadan, customers can fly for as low as N6500 if they book ahead of time. It is cheaper than going by road and within 20-25minutes you are in Lagos.
“But beyond that, as we think of the future, we do believe that this airport has a special role to play in the aviation industry in the country and across Nigeria. And it’s our hope that over time we would open more routes from Ibadan to connect this region across the country, West Africa and across the continent.

GSM Advocates Group Organizes One Day Capacity Building Training For Online Influencers In Oyo
A foremost sociopolitical group dedicated to the campaign for democracy and good governance in Oyo state under the umbrella of GSM Advocates yesterday held a one day capacity building training for its online influencers.
The one day event which held in Ibadan, the capital city of Oyo state was designed to equip participants at the training on the demands and the dynamics of digital media, image projection, and online influencing in a consistently evolving global world.
Convener of the event, Akeem Olatunji who is the Director General of the Group in Oyo state disclosed to journalists that the training became expedient and important for GSM Advocates members in order to abreast them with responsibilities and legal obligations on an online influencer to avoid abuse of the social media while projecting a brand or an image particularly in reporting and propagating activities of Governor Seyi Makinde.
Olatunji stated that GSM Advocates Group was created about four years ago to champion the course of democracy and good governance under the leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde who he said has continued to reshape the political landscape of the state and the nation which according to the former Publicity Secretary of the PDP became more evident during the last general elections in Nigeria.
The keynote speaker and guest lecturer, Pastor Sulaimon Olanrewaju who is the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Makinde, spoke on the theme “Social media impact on public relations and adoption of 21st century professionalism and ethical issues in public relations.
The media guru harped on the need for participants to continually learn, relearn and unlearn stressing that many people have continued to abuse the social media out of ignorance. He maintained that an online influencer operating within the digital marketplace could excel without running afoul of acceptable ethical conducts on social media.
He urged participants to deploy the acquired training from the event in their day to day operation within the social media space as good examples and advocates of democracy and good governance stressing that Oyo state and Nigeria belong to all Nigerians and such should always be remembered while going about their online activities.
Also, the Senior Special Assistant on Broadcast Media to Governor Makinde, Mrs Abosede Sodiq in her submission while addressing participants stressed the need for media teams to resist being confrontational in carrying out their duties but communicate same putting state interest above personal interest.
She charged participants to avoid fanning embers of discord and disaffection capable of setting the society on the path of unrest and to only promote image or brand bearing in mind the need to bring about peaceful coexistence across multi-ethnic residents of the state.
Similarly, the Executive Assistant on Administration to Governor Makinde, Reverend Idowu Ogedengbe encouraged members of GSM Advocates to remain committed and dedicated to the promotion of good governance of Governor Makinde.
Earlier, Olatunji who went memory lane gave a brief historical background of the Group and the purpose of creating it some four years ago. He described the organisation as a peace-building sociopolitical body committed advocating democracy and good governance.
He said members of the group operate primarily in areas where the good governance of Governor Makinde were toned down or under reported by both the mainstream and digital media for whatever reasons and to adequately take the governor’s achievements to every nooks and crannies of the state.
“Recognising the fact that media regarded as the fourth estate of the realm is a great influencer that shapes up the society, Olatunji said: “Hence, members of GSM Advocates have really contributed and also ready to do more on content analysis; creating news stories and social media influencing on topics related to sustainable development in Oyo State.

In the goodwill of the authorities to bring fresh dawn to the people of Ibadan North Local Government and to allow the residents of the local government to fully enjoy the dividends of democracy and good governance as prioritized by the administration of the State Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde, the Vice Chairman of the Local Government, Hon Waheed Akanbi better known as “Biro” was sworn in by the lawmakers to replace Agba Egbe the Ex-Local Government Chairman.

2024 LG Poll: Mogbonjubola, Olatunji Empower PDP Members In Oluyole With Cash, Vow To Deliver LG
The Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources in Oyo state, Honourable Abdulmojeed Mogbonjubola and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairmanship candidate for Oluyole local government ahead of the coming 2024 local government election, Akeem Olatunji on Thursday surprised party members with cash empowerment.
Mogbonjubola and Olatunji made the cash donations at a PDP stakeholders meeting held in Oluyole yesterday in preparation for the coming election into Council areas across the 33 LGs.
The duo in their separate remarks disclosed that the cash empowerment was part of their commitments to the growth of the party in the LG.
They also expressed their readiness to slog it out with opposition parties and deliver Oluyole LG for PDP in the coming 2024 local government election.
Olatunji who was former Publicity Secretary of PDP in Oyo state told journalists shortly after the stakeholders meeting that if elected, he would replicate Makinde’s approach at the grassroots for effective transformation.
He said Oluyole was blessed with vast arable land for agriculture, friendly business environment as many already existing local and international business firms operating within the LG could readily attest to the potentials of the Council.
Olatunji stated his desire to work closely with all stakeholders in Oluyole particularly traditional leaders to give the much desired dividends of democracy to the people of the Council area while promising to run issues based political campaign throughout the electioneering process.
The Chairman of PDP in Oluyole LG, Alhaji Mukaila Adegbola in his address commended Mogbonjubola and Olatunji for helping other party stakeholders to restore cohesion in the party and vowed to mobilize members across the 229 polling units under the 10 wards across Oluyole ahead of the coming LG Poll.

Former Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo state, Akeem Olatunji has described Governor Seyi Makinde as an embodiment of humanity who’s love and compassion for the masses remain unrivalled over palliative measures geared towards economic stimulus in the state.
Olatunji, who’s the candidate of the ruling PDP in Oluyole local government ahead of the coming 2024 local government election made this known in a press release Wednesday morning (today).
Speaking, Olatunji said Makinde, who never gets distracted as far issues of governance and the people’s welfare were concerned, had again rekindled the hope of the common man in the state.
While eulogizing Makinde for the way and manner he handled the workers demands and weeklong protest and the eventual industrial harmony that was restored between both employer and employees, Olatunji disclosed that the relationship between government and labour in the state has gone family-like beyond what any opposition element could cash in on.
Earlier in the week, Oyo State governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, had set up a committee for the Sustainable Action for Economic Recovery (SAfER), which is meant to mitigate the effects of the removal of fuel subsidies and the resultant economic difficulties on residents of the state.
The governor however, headed the 15-man committee by his Chief of Staff, Hon. Segun Ogunwuyi, while Professor Musibau Babatunde, Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, will serve as its Secretary.
Other members of the committee include Mr Akinola Ojo, Finance Commissioner; Barrister Olasunkanmi Olaleye, Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development; Mr Segun Olayiwola, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters; Prince Dotun Oyelade, Commissioner for Information; and Comrade Bayo Titilola-Sodo, Special Adviser, Labour Matters.
Others are Chief Bayo Lawal, Senior Executive Assistant, General Duties; Alhaji Kolawole Gafar, Executive Assistant, Finance, Budget & Economic Planning; CP Sunday Odukoya (Retired), Executive Assistant, Security; Miss Ololade Ajibola, Senior Special Assistant, Special Duties; Bishop Daniel Oluwajimade, representative of the Christian Association of Nigeria; Alhaji Muniru Ogundipe, representative of the Muslim Community; Mr Ademola Babalola, representative of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and Mr Jide Bamgbose, representative of the Civil Society Organisations.
Olatunji explained that even though the harsh economic challenges occasioned by the removal of fuel subsidy and floating naira to dollar exchange rate by the federal government has had adverse effects on residents, Governor Makinde has already put measures in place to reduce such impacts.
Olatunji stated that the governor had, during a broadcast last Saturday, announced the multi-pronged SAfER intervention to ease the economic burden foisted on the people by the subsidy removal.
According to him, “after wide consultations, we have arrived at decisions that we believe will be of the most benefit to the good people of Oyo State. Our SAfER package will ensure a softer landing for the poorest of the poor and the most vulnerable. It will also address the need for food security through direct intervention to our farmers.”
Governor Makinde added that in coming up with the interventions, “we considered the importance of using these economic packages to stimulate our economy and bring about sustainable development.”
The SAfER package comes under six major headings viz;
Transportation – This includes the extension of bus routes, the introduction of inter-city Omituntun buses to link geo-political zones and fare reduction for students as well as the aged.
Food Relief Package – This focuses on providing over 200,000 poorest of the poor households in the state with food items.
Food Security – This intervention is aimed at providing input support for 10,000 farmers in the state.
Agropreneurial support – Through this, young agropreneurs under the Youth Entrepreneurship in Agribusiness Project (YEAP), who have established businesses, would have access to N500 million loan to improve their agricultural enterprises.
SMEs Stimulation Package – There will be provision of N500 million low interest rate loan for Small and Micro-Enterprises (SMEs), including traders, artisans and other small business operators, in the state through microfinance banks.
Healthcare support – Under this scheme, the government will be providing health insurance for 100,000 of the most vulnerable citizens.
It will also pay their one-year health insurance premium under the Oyo State Health Insurance Agency (OYSHIA) scheme. In the same vein, the government will pay the health insurance premium for all pensioners under OYSHIA scheme. Any pensioner who has already made payment will be refunded.
In a recent update gathered by Eaglessightnews, Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has on Monday, listed the former Edo State governor, Adams Oshimhole, and his Sokoto State counterpart, Aminu Tambuwal, among the new chairmen of the Senate standing committees.
According to a report sighted from ripplesnigeria , Akpabio named the committee chairmen after the senators had confirmed 45 of the 48 ministerial nominees forwarded to the parliament by President Bola Tinubu at the plenary in Abuja.

Eaglessightnews reported that Tinubu in a national broadcast on Monday unveiled N500bn palliative for manufacturers, small businesses and farmers. He also released plans to increase salaries and acquire 3,000 mass transit buses.
The Nigeria Labour Congress President, Joe Ajaero, said the rally would hold in line with its schedule despite Tinubu Speech to avert the protest .
Speaking shortly after talks between the organised labour and the Federal Government on Monday became inconclusive, Mr Ajaero said the talk is expected to resume on Tuesday (today).
According to Punch, the Presidential Steering Committee on Palliatives meeting between the government and labour was held at the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja.
“We just adjourned to go and listen to Mr. President’s speech and to continue with our conversation tomorrow (Tuesday). Our peaceful rally will go on as scheduled…this rally has been fixed,” Ajaero told journalists after the meeting.
Ajaero allayed the fears that the peaceful protest could be taken over by hoodlums, saying that such had never happened in any of its workers’ protest.
However, he said security agencies were responsible for safeguarding workers in such exercises.
The meeting of the steering committee was adjourned till 12noon on Tuesday.
Reacting to Tinubu’s economic reforms especially on the exchange rate and others, Ajaero said “By the time you have a single market (exchange rate) and you are not having anything that has a comparative advantage, your energy is import driven, then how are you going to control it?
“How are you going to control somebody that exchanged dollar at about N900? Are you going to tell him to sell below the price?
“How are you going to tell even the Discos not to increase their tariff with the high cost of production today? Even corn in the villages that was sold at N18,000 in February; now it’s about 56,000. How are you going to control it?”
On his part, the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, said issues around the subsidy removal were discussed at the closed-door meeting, after which it was later adjourned.
He also said the government was dealing with the oil cabals that have crippled the economy.
He said, “We have been locked behind for a couple of hours, we had a good meeting, issues were thrashed out on the situation in Nigeria today in terms of issues centred around on government intervention on the situation in the country.
“We agreed to adjourn till tomorrow as you know Mr. President is making a national broadcast today. Based on what we anticipate that Mr. President will be telling Nigerians, we decided to adjourn the meeting till 12pm tomorrow (Tuesday) before labour can decide whether or not they want to continue with the protest on Wednesday.”
He added, “But we believe that after tonight broadcast, President will speak to all the issues, he will roll out his interventions and needless to say we believe any reasonable person will tell you that at that point there will be no need for any protest.”
On why the government did not roll out palliatives before ending the subsidy regime, he argued that the previous government did not budget for subsidy and that President Tinubu was rolling out palliatives to cushion its effect on the people.
Also speaking, the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, pleaded with the organised labour to give the administration some time to fix the economy.
Makinde, Five Other Governors to Accompany Tinubu to Benin Republic
Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, will be joining five other governors on a trip to the Republic of Benin. The governors include Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq of Kwara State, Nasir Idris of Kebbi State, and Mohammed Umar Bago of Niger State. They have been invited by President Bola Tinubu to attend the 63rd independence anniversary of Benin.
Tinubu, who is also the chairman of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), will be the special guest of President Patrice Talon at the ceremony. The visit will take place on August 1, 2023.
The meeting between Tinubu and Talon was first initiated on the sidelines of the summit on New Global Financing Pact in Paris, France. They also met at the 63rd Ordinary session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS in Guinea-Bissau. More recently, they met at the State House in Abuja along with leaders from three other West African nations. It was during this meeting that President Talon extended an invitation to Tinubu for the anniversary celebration.
During their discussions, Tinubu emphasized the need to review and strengthen cultural, trade, and economic relations between Nigeria and Benin. He highlighted the importance of joint border patrols by the Customs and harmonizing regulations on the frontlines.

Oyo State governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, has appointed a retired Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG Sikiru Kayode Akande (rtd), as the new chairman of the Board of the Oyo State Security Network Agency codenamed Amotekun.
This was as the governor reappointed all other members of the security outfit’s Board, with Mrs. I.E. Akibode, a Civil Servant, to serve as Secretary of the Board.
The governor, according to a letter by the Chief of Staff to the governor, Otunba Segun Ogunwuyi, charged the new chairman and the Board members to see their appointments as a call to greater service.

Kanu Returns To DSS Custody After Medical Check-Up . The leader of the separatist Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, was on Sunday returned to the custody of the Department of State Services after being released on Saturday to be attended by his personal physician.
The Federal High Court in Abuja had on July 20 ordered the DSS to grant Kanu access to his personal physicians, dismissing the DSS objection to the prayer.
According to IPOB, Kanu is suspected to be suffering from an ear infection and needs surgery.
Counsel for the IPOB leader, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, told our correspondent in a phone conversation on Sunday that Kanu, who has been in detention since 2021, had access to his personal physicians and had been taken back into custody.
Ejiofor said, “He has been attended to, and after preliminary examinations, he was taken back.”
The lawyer, however, declined further comments on his health conditions, among others.
Ejiofor had tweeted on Saturday that Kanu met with his personal doctors in a hospital in Abuja outside the facility of the DSS.
Ejiofor, who said he witnessed the medical examination, described it as seamless and productive.
He said, “Sequel to our avowed assurance to always keep Ezigbo UmuChineke abreast of pertinent happenings, especially with Onyendu’s health status, welfare, and update on his legal matters, we are pleased to inform you that Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu met with his choice personal physician yesterday in a hospital in Abuja, outside the facility of the State Security Service.
“As part of the protocol, I witnessed the consultation. The medical examination was seamless and productive, and he will be progressing to the next stage soon.”

A group within the People’s Democratic Party in Oyo State “National Equity Group” has described a story published by an online medium, theexclusivepress.net that Deputy National Chairman (South) of the party, Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja is nursing ambition to succeed Governor Seyi Makinde in 2027 as an to cause disaffection between the governor and Ambassador Arapaja.
The group in a statement issued by its National Secretary, Samson Fredrick said it initially chosen to disregard the said report because it saw the need not to trade words with those who don’t believe in the modest achievements of the governor makinde led administration, noted that reacting to it however, became necessary in order to set the record straight and to put those behind the purveyor of the said fake news to shame.
In the malicious report published by the said online medium with the caption “Arapaja moves to succeed Makinde in 2027, Begins consultations” Arapaja was alleged to have begun move to take over from Makinde in 2027, a report which is nothing but a blatant lie.
According to the group, “we want to state that we are highly disappointed in the said unfounded, baseless and frivolous report and wondered why some people could descend so low to the extent of cooking up such baseless, malicious and frivolous story all in the name of politics.
His Excellency, Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja that we know is somebody who have absolute belief that God Almighty alone gives power to whom He will and dethrone whoever He will without being questioned by anybody.
The said report was the handiwork of some political jobbers who are trying to cause disaffection between the Governor and Ambassador Arapaja because there was never a time he has ever made any move to join the far away 2027 gubernatorial race not to talk of discussing such with anybody whether before or after the 2023 general elections to the best of our knowledge.
His Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde is the Governor of Oyo state and he is doing wonderfully well. And it will be a disservice for anybody that is loyal to him trying to indicate interest in the 2027 gubernatorial in Oyo State which is very very far by now. Such a person could be described as an enemy of the State who does not want the state to progress knowing fully well that the move will definitely cause distraction for our amiable and performing governor.
The main motive of the publication and its sponsor is to cause rift and disaffection between the Governor and Ambassador Arapaja because they know that Ambassador Arapaja’s loyalty to Governor Makinde is one hundred per cent and Gov. Makinde equally have very high regards for him.
On the allegation that Ambassador Arapaja used the opportunity of the assignment that His Excellency gave him to oversee the selection of chairmanship and councillor candidates within Ibadan city to favour some candidates allegedly loyal to him, this is also another weighty allegations that they have failed to substantiate because they ought to have mentioned the names or local government where such favour happened. The selection of candidates was purely on merit. All the leaders and stakeholders were carried along in each of the local governments and that was why there was tremendous success in the choice of all the candidates during the primaries.
Gov. Seyi Makinde is doing wonderfully well to the extent that even if the constitution had permitted for a third term, he would have gotten the support of all the people in the State for a third term in office. This is because in the history of governance in Oyo State we have never had it so good like this.
He has raised the bar of governance to the extent that Oyo State has become a model for other states to emulate. He has brought a lot of innovations to the governance from education, agriculture, health care, workers welfare, infrastructure, and many other things that cannot be seen on the pages of newspapers.
Therefore, this reaction is necessary to set the record straight and to warn the media practitioners especially the bloggers to stop being used as agent of destabilisation and to shame the faceless political jobbers that sponsored the publication of fake story. We believe that God shall continue to expose the wolves on sheep’s clothing that have constituted themselves as enemies of progress in Oyo State.“ The statement concluded.

Abass Adigun in his new milestone and roles as the House Committee Chairman on drug and narcotic include , charge drug policy and control, curtail illicit production, importation, exportation, sale and trafficking of psychoactive substances, prepares and monitors policy documents addressing the drug problem, enforcement and control of narcotic control laws, education and prevention of the use of narcotics and Treatment, rehabilitation and social reintegration of narcotic addicts.

Charles Oputa, a Veteran singer and social activist, better known as Charly Boy has made his intention known to walk naked on the street if the Labour Party candidate in the February 25 presidential election, Peter Obi, emerges victorious at the election petitions tribunal. The recent statement of the Singer, Charley Boy was shared on Wednesday vis his Twitter handle . Charley declared that he would strip himself to jubilate if the tribunal announces Obi’s victory.
Recall, that the Independent National Electoral Commission announced Bola Tinubu as the winner of the election and he was thereafter sworn-in as the President.
The Labour Party and its candidate, who do not agree with the result subsequently approached the court to challenge the victory of Tinubu.

Governor of Oyo State, ‘Seyi Makinde, has assured the people of the state of quality service delivery under Omituntun 2.0, stating that he and the political appointees and top civil servants sworn-in on Wednesday, would serve the state to the best of their abilities.
Governor Makinde maintained that contrary to the notion that administrations are often lax and non-committal during second terms, his government is looking to leave a strong legacy in the state and that it would not let the people of the state down.
The governor stated this in his remarks at the swearing-in of the Secretary to the State Government, Head of Service, 16 Commissioners, 14 Permanent Secretaries, including the Accountant-General of the State, held at the Executive Chamber of the Governor’s Office, Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan.
He charged the SSG, Head of Service, permanent secretaries and returning commissioners to see their appointments and elevations as a call to greater work and responsibility, saying: “To you all, this is a call for more work. Some of the commissioners worked with me during the first tenure and some of you already know how I work and nothing is going to change.
“Some people have said that the second term administrations are usually very lax because they are not looking for anything. Well, we are looking for a strong legacy to give back to Oyo State. So, we are not going to let our people down.
“I want you to know that we have a lot to do for our people. We already prepared the roadmap for sustainable development 2023-2027. Please, key into it.
“These are very difficult periods. A lot has happened in this second tenure, and from what we have seen, a lot will be required from us. Please, there should not be laxity. You have all taken the oath of office and I expect you to deliver according to the oath you have just taken,” the governor added.
A former Deputy Vice Chancellor at the University of Ibadan, Professor Olanike Kudirat Adeyemo, was sworn-in as the Secretary to the State Government, while the Head of Service, Mrs. Olubunmi Oni (mni), was also sworn-in, following her appointment in May.
Speaking further on the appointment of the Permanent Secretaries in the Public/Civil Service, Governor Makinde said the state government would continue with the conduct of the examinations, urging those interested in becoming Permanent Secretaries to get ready for examinations, as the list of successful applicants for the top civil service posts has been exhausted.
Governor Makinde, who maintained that his administration has continued to follow through on its commitment to run an all-inclusive government that leaves no zone behind, said all 14 federal constituencies in the state have at least one commissioner among those sworn-in.
He charged residents of the state not to distract the administration with criticisms that are not constructive, but should rather allow the government to serve the best interest of the people.
He said: “Since we sent the names of commissioner-nominees to the House of Assembly, we have been inundated with all sorts of analyses – like who is from where? Who brought who and all that.
“Well, let me state it clearly that we started it during our first tenure. This is the first administration that had commissioners from all the 14 federal constituencies of Oyo State, and I know who came from where.
“I read a story where people from Oyo criticised the fact that the Governor is from Ibadan, Deputy Governor from Oke-Ogun, Chief of Staff from Ogbomoso and the Speaker from Ibarapa. And now, the SSG is also from Oke-Ogun. But have we forgotten Oyo Federal Constituency?
“Well, in front of me today, we have three commissioners being sworn-in from Oyo Federal Constituency. So, if you say one commissioner per constituency, Oyo Federal Constituency has three. So, when people do these analyses, I wonder why.
“This is a government that is still being formed. So, I will appeal to our people that if they cannot help us by criticising us constructively, they should not distract us. Let us serve the interest of the people of the state to the best of our ability.
“I think we should be talking about service delivery to our people. What we have demonstrated is that all these people are eminently qualified. That means if we look very well, there is no part of Oyo State that cannot contribute its quota to the progress and well-being of our state. And, as a government, we will continue to search for such people from all the nooks and cranny of Oyo State to serve the state.”
Responding on behalf of the appointees, the newly sworn-in Secretary to the State Government, Professor Adeyemo promised to work with the vision of Governor Makinde to deliver the agenda of Omituntun 2.0 to the good people of Oyo State.

Makinde: Confluence of vision and resourcefulness By Sulaimon Olanrewaju
Let’s set out with a fact:
Between 1999 and 2019 no governor in Oyo State constructed a 65-kilometer long road, not one. That is a 20-year period. But within two years in office, Engineer Seyi Makinde was able to commence and complete the reconstruction of the Moniya-Ijaiye-Iseyin Road. The 65-kilometre road project, which was awarded on November 1, 2019, was inaugurated on June 3, 2021. The road has taken away the stress associated with plying that route and reduced travel time between Ibadan, the state capital and the Oke-Ogun zone of the state, by as much as over two hours. Before the road was reconstructed, commuters spent about three hours between Moniya and Iseyin. But now, the trip is completed in 50 minutes or less.

But the Moniya-Iseyin road is not Makinde’s only badge of honour, there is also the ongoing 76.7km Iseyin-Fapote-Ogbomoso road. This is a completely new road which will link the Oke-Ogun and Ogbomoso zones of the state. The project is in fulfillment of the governor’s promise that his administration would focus on road projects which target the state’s economy and link the five zones of the state to increase economic activities and stem rural-urban migration. When completed, this road will also provide easy access between the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology main campus in Ogbomoso and the College of Agricultural Sciences and Renewable Natural Resources in Iseyin. The road is nearing completion.
There is also the Oyo-Iseyin Road that links the Oyo and Oke-Ogun zones. Though a federal road, Makinde resolved to reconstruct the road due to its importance to the economy of the state. When the road is delivered, it would make access to Fasola Agribusiness Industrial Hub, which is also being developed by the state, easy.
Then there is the iconic Senator Rashidi Ladoja Circular Road, which is so dear to the governor’s heart because of the magnitude of its potential impact on the state’s economy. The 110-kilometre road, which the governor has promised to deliver before the end of his current tenure, connects the Lagos-Ibadan expressway to the Ibadan-Ife expressway. It also connects the Lagos-Ibadan expressway to the Abeokuta-Ibadan road. Therefore, the road takes the weight of heavy traffic coming from Lagos and other parts of the country off the city centre. The road will open a new corridor of business opportunities in the state. In addition, not only will the road transform the aerial view of Ibadan and wean it from the ‘brown roof city’ appellation, it will also upgrade its status to that of a 21st century city.
There are also other road projects such as the rehabilitation of 45.3km Saki-Ogbooro-Igboho Road, the reconstruction of 37.41km Beere-Olorunsogo-Amuloko-Akanran-Dagbolu Road, the dualisation of the 12.5km Challenge-Odo Ona Elewe-Apata Road, the reconstruction of 12km Apete-Awotan-Akufo Road into a rigid pavement road, the reconstruction of 21km Airport-Ajia-New Ife Express Road with a spur to Amuloko, the dualisation of 7.3km Agodi Gate-Old Ife-Adegbayi Junction with a spur to Alakia Airport, Ibadan, the reconstruction of 5.2km Gedu-Oroki-Sabo-Asipa Road, and the reconstruction of the 4.15km BCJ-Railway-Gbekuba-NIHORT Junction, Ibadan, among other road projects.
These are in addition to other landmark projects across the state such as building a new College of Agricultural Sciences and Renewable Natural Resources, a campus of Ladoke Akintola University, in Iseyin, as well as regular payment of salaries and pensions and a deliberate effort to clear the backlog of inherited unpaid gratuities.
How has Makinde been able to pack so many achievements into four years and seven weeks despite the challenges of the times? How has he been able to accomplish so much in spite of the dwindling revenue from the centre? Why have the governor’s strides been longer, better and more impactful than those who came before him?
Two things are working for Seyi Makinde; these are vision and resourcefulness.
Vision is travelling into the future to see what is possible. Without vision nothing great gets done. Without vision, there is nothing to aspire to. Without vision, motivation to beat odds will be nil. Vision is great because it brings focus to activities and prevents wasteful deployment of resources. Once a vision is cast, all energies are channeled towards its actualization. Thus, other things become insignificant.
Great leaders always live in the possibilities of the future, not the limitations of the moment. They do not allow the realities of the present to muffle them, rather they are motivated by the prospects the future offers and allow the possibilities to dictate their course of actions. Hence, they rely on vision, which is the compass that guides a state into its desired destination. The vision encapsulates the aspiration of the state; where it wants to be and what it wants to become. Without a compelling vision, a state will only manage to crawl.
Because resources are never always sufficient to achieve the vision, leaders require resourcefulness to birth their vision.
Resourcefulness goes beyond doing more with less; it is the ability to optimize available resources to achieve set objectives. Resourcefulness is coming to the realization that the leader and his team are capable of doing more than they initially thought possible. It is looking inwards and outwards to get a problem solved. It is thinking outside the box to make the seemingly impossible achievable. Being resourceful has less to do with insufficient personnel, tools or funding but more to do with deploying available resources into finding a way out of a labyrinth. Hence, every complaint about inadequate resource is an admission of deficiency in resourcefulness. Resourceful leaders can always get any resource they need by making use of the available ones.
When Makinde assumed office in 2019, he realized that reliance on revenue from the Federation Account would result in failure to deliver on his electoral promises. So, he devised a means of expanding the state’s income streams without taking the easy route of increasing taxes. Rather, he resorted to widening the tax net and capturing more persons who were not paying taxes in both the formal and informal sectors. His administration, to tackle the challenges of tax evasion, tax avoidance, tax ascertainment and the cumbersome payment system, deployed information and communication technology. The government also reduced some charges, such as the mandatory tax on building plan approval and development levy fees, to encourage more persons to voluntarily pay their taxes as and when due. The state similarly activated the land use charge to raise revenue for capital projects.
The strategies paid off with the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) increasing from N24.63 billion in 2018 to N26.58 billion in 2019. It leapt to N38.04 billion in 2020 and hit N52.08 billion in 2021. By the end of 2022, the state’s monthly IGR was about N4 billion. Consequently, the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the state rose from N2.75 trillion in 2019 to N4.05 trillion as of Q3 2022.
Despite this growth in IGR, there were still funding gaps for capital projects. So, the governor keyed into the Alternative Project Funding Approach (APFA), an innovative system for raising funds for projects. With that the government was able to undertake some major projects such as the Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Adamasingba, the 9.7km Saki Township Road dualisation, the 299 primary healthcare centres renovation and the General Gas Flyover construction.
What vision conceives, resourcefulness births.
When Makinde envisioned a remodeled Lekan Salami Sports Complex, his resourcefulness made it a reality.
When Makinde conceived the idea of reconstructing Moniya-Iseyin road, his resourcefulness delivered it to the people of Oyo State.
When Makinde thought of renovating primary health centres in Oyo State, his resourcefulness delivered about 300 PHCs to the citizens.
When Makinde visualized Ladoke Akintola University of Technology being wholly-owned by Oyo State, his resourcefulness made it possible.
When Makinde thought of a campus of LAUTECH being cited in Iseyin, his resourcefulness made it a reality.
With vision, Makinde imagined a brand new road to connect Ogbomoso and Oke Ogun zones in the state, with resourcefulness the road is gradually becoming a reality.

Makinde appoints Olanike Kudirat Adeyemo as SSG designate
Oyo State governor, ‘Seyi Makinde has announced Mrs Olanike Kudirat Adeyemo, a Professor at the Department of Veterinary Public Health and Preventive Medicine, University of Ibadan, as the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) designate.
The announcement was contained in a letter signed by the state governor.
Professor Adeyemo, who served as the Head of the Oyo State COVID-19 Decontamination and Containment team of the Oyo State COVID-19 Taskforce, was born on July 17, 1970.
She bagged the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (D.V.M.), Master’s degree in Veterinary Public Health (MVPH) and Ph.D. Veterinary Public Health, in 1994, 1998 and 2005 respectively from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria.
Professor Adeyemo, who is a COMSTECH Distinguished scholar and the Pioneer Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research, Innovation and Strategic Partnerships) at the University of Ibadan, Ibadan between 2017 and 2021, joined the services of the university in March 1999 as Lecturer Grade II in the Department of Veterinary Public Health and Preventive Medicine. She became Lecturer I in 2002, Senior Lecturer/Assistant Professor in 2005 and Reader/Associate Professor in 2008. In October 2011, she became a full Professor.
From August 2013 to July 2015, she was a Schlumberger Foundation-sponsored Visiting Scholar at the Center for Human and Environmental Toxicology, Department of Physiological sciences, University of Florida, Gainesville, USA.
Between March 13, 2017 and March 12, 2021, Professor Adeyemo served as the Pioneer Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research, Innovation and Strategic Partnerships), University of Ibadan, Ibadan.
A 2013 Fellow of the College of Veterinary Surgeon, Nigeria and a Registered Veterinary Surgeon, Adeyemo is a Fellow of many academies, such as the International Science Council (ISC), The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), the Society for Environmental Toxicology and Pollution Mitigation, the Nigerian Academy of Science, the African Academy of Sciences and the African Scientific Institute (ASI), USA.
She is also a member of many learned societies, including Society of Toxicology (SOT), the Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA), the Fisheries Society of Nigeria (FISON), the World Aquatic Veterinary Medical Association (WAVMA) and the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSDW).
Professor Adeyemo’s scholarship and leadership are around “One Health” trans-disciplinary research that cuts across traditional boundaries and paradigms to create novel conceptual, methodological, and translational innovation at the environment-livestock-wildlife-human interface with significant policy implication for Nigeria, the African Continent, and the rest of the world.
She is the host PI on the project (2020-2023) titled “Improving Biosecurity: A Science-based Approach to Manage Fish Disease Risks and Increase the Socio-economic Contribution of the Nigerian Catfish and Tilapia Industries” in collaboration with colleagues at Mississippi State University, USA and WorldFish, Malaysia is facilitated by USAID grant under the Fish Innovation Lab for Fish. Eaglessightnews reports that one of the strong Stateholders and a chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party, Hon. Oluwaseun Olufade has emerged the winner of the just concluded local government Chairmanship primary held at the council Secretariat.
Seun Olufade was declared the winner after the Primary Poll by the returning officer Mr. Afolabi Oluwafemi.
According to the statement in the declaration of the results, Oluwafemi says,
“I must appreciate the electorates for making this process a seamless one for us all, without further ado, I hereby read the results of the Ibadan North Local Government Chairmanship Primaries as follows: A total of 120 Votes were cast, 1 voided vote.Hon. Yusuff Sahib Oladayo (Agba-Egbe) Scored 2 Votes,While Hon. Oluwaseun Olufade scored a total votes of 117.
“By the power vested on me as the returning officer, I Afolabi Oluwafemi, having met all the requirements of the law, hereby declare Hon. Oluwaseun Olufade as winner and return elected.”
Seun Olufade in his reaction after been declared winner of the primary election appreciated the good people of Ibadan North for their overwhelming votes giving to him. assuring them of quality representation with an all inclusive government.

Following the political intrigues and speculations that preceded the primaries of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oluyole, former Publicity Secretary of the party, Akeem Olatunji has emerged the party’s flag bearer in the 2024 local government election.
Olatunji emerged the party’s candidate on Friday after the party’s primary held at Idi-Ayunre Council Secretariat, venue of the party primary.
The former Spokesman of the ruling PDP won votes of all hundred party delegates drawn from the ten wards in Oluyole local government.
Olatunji, who spoke to journalists shortly after the election expressed gratitude to Governor Seyi Makinde for his exemplary leadership and the opportunity given him to fly the party’s flag in the coming LG election slated for April, 2024.
While also thanking Otunba Seye Famojuro who he described as selfless and visionary with penchant for creating opportunities and platforms for growth within the party, Olatunji reaffirmed his unwavering commitment and loyalty to make PDP stronger in Oluyole.
Expressing gratitude to the Makinde’s Commissioner nominee and former Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor, Hon. Governor of Oyo State, ‘Seyi Makinde, on Thursday, eulogised the late National Vice Chairman (South-West) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Olasoji Adagunodo Oluwatukesi, describing him as a stabiliser, who worked hard for the progress of the party at the state and the national levels.

Governor Makinde stated this at the Commendation Service organised in honour of the late politician, held at the frontage of the Presidential Lodge, Government House, Agodi, Ibadan.
He stated that that the late Adagunodo, who passed away in May, aged 62, contributed immensely to the growth of the PDP in Osun State, the South-West and nationally and that he deserved the honour being done to him.
The governor added that he would immortalise Adagunodo by building a PDP South-West Zonal Office that will be named Honourable Soji Adagunodo House and handed over to the party in his remembrance.
At the service attended by top party chieftains including Acting National Chairman of PDP, Ilya Umar Damagum, members of the National Working Committee, former governors and deputy governors, among others, Governor Makinde said: “We are here to honour my friend and our brother, the former National Vice Chairman (South-West) of the PDP, Hon. Soji Clement Adagunodo.
“So, let me pray that God will honour all of you who are here to honour our departed brother.
“Hon Adagunodo was a stabiliser. There are two things I will reveal today. Before the current governor of Osun State became a Senator, Adagunodo was the state chairman of the PDP and when Senator Adeleke was running for Senate, he was in APC. But when they denied him the ticket, he came to the PDP.
“Then, I was not a major player, but we still talked, and I advised the Osun PDP to use Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi as candidate because they have been in the party, but Adagunodo did his analyses.
“He said, look, we want to win this election for the PDP and the person that can win the election at that particular time, because of the sympathy for the family, having lost a brother, was Ademola Adeleke.
“He went ahead as the Chairman of the party and orchestrated the emergence of Governor Adeleke as the standard-bearer of the PDP. And, to the glory of God, they won the election.
“So, when people talk, I always ask them to go to the foundation. If there is no yesterday, there may not be today and tomorrow may be quite difficult.
“In 2018, I was to run for the governorship of Oyo State. We had challenges and my emergence as candidate was with rancour, as different groups were fighting one another. Adagunodo was the chairman of the PDP in Osun State, but his people were always here.
“Our party chairman in Oyo then was Alhaji Kunmi Mustapha and they were all working towards the stabilisation agenda of Hon. Adagunodo, with whom they had several meetings in the middle of the night. What was he trying to do? He was trying to get my own chairman here to accept me as the candidate of the PDP and work for PDP.
“He did all of that work not because he came from Oyo State but because of his love for the PDP in the South-West and, by extension, nationally. He was able to convince them, and they supported me in 2018 while going into 2019 election and we won.
“For my re-election, he was already sick and even with that, he would come to my house, arrange the PDP in the South-West to be with us and go to everywhere with us. What more will you want in a committed leader? What can we do? If God decides on what he wants to do, we cannot fight him. But one thing I am bold to say here is that this is a celebration of life.
“Yes, he left us at a very young age but left with strings of achievements. He was a member of the Osun State House of Assembly, State Chairman of PDP, National Vice Chairman of a major party in Nigeria, Chairman of the major zone of a major party in Nigeria. So, we should celebrate him and his impact on the political terrain of Osun State, the entire South-West and Nigeria.”
Governor Makinde condoled with the family of the late former lawmaker, stating that Adagunodo lived a life of integrity, even as he urged his children to toe the same path.
Makinde, who added that the late politician was bold, courageous and that he led a life of integrity that people could attest to, said: “For me, the only thing I can do is to immortalise my friend, my brother and my ally.
“So, I will donate a South-West regional office to the PDP. I will buy the land in a conspicuous place within Ibadan metropolis. I will build it and name it Honourable Olasoji Adagunodo House and we will hand it over to the PDP.
“Let me once again thank you for coming to honour our brother, our colleague and a shining example of integrity within the murky waters of politics in South-West and Nigeria.”
In their remarks, former Osun State governor, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola; PDP Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Damagum; PDP Deputy National Chairman (South), Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja; Acting National Vice Chairman, PDP South-West, Alhaji Rahman Owokoniran and the Oyo State PDP chairman, Hon. Dayo Ogungbenro, extolled the virtues of the deceased former lawmaker.
Describing him as a dedicated and committed party man, who worked hard to unite the PDP in the South-West zone, the PDP leaders severally referenced Adagunodo’s contributions to the progress of the party.
In his sermon, former Chairman, Pilgrims Welfare Board (Christian Wing), Bishop Ademola Moradeyo, described Adagunodo, whom he said he had known for the last four decades, as a man with a good heart.

Tinubu had asked the presidential election tribunal to throw out the petition filed by LP seeking to nullify his victory in the 2023 general elections, on the grounds that he did not secure 25% of votes cast in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Tinubu, through his counsel, Wole Olanipekun, in a final written address to the tribunal, claimed the FCT is the 37th state for electoral purposes.

Just In :PDP Demands Transparency As Ailing Akeredolu Extends Sick Leave
The Ondo State Peoples Democratic Party, on Monday, said it had been vindicated by the request of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu for an extension of his sick leave.
It demanded that the government should come clean on the state of health of the governor, rather than deceiving the people.
The PDP was reacting to Akeredolu’s letter received by the Ondo State House of Assembly, on Monday, wherein the governor asked for an extension of his sick leave.
The governor has been on sick leave since June 5 and was expected to resume on July 6.
He proceeded on medical leave abroad after writing to the state Assembly, notifying the lawmakers that he had transmitted power to the Deputy Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, to stand in as acting governor.
In a statement on Monday, the Speaker of the Assembly, Mr Olamide Oladiji, said the House had received a letter from Akeredolu, seeking extension of his sick leave on the grounds that his doctors advised him to further rest and recuperate before starting work.
The Speaker said the governor’s action was in line with Section 190 of the Constitution.
The statement read, “His (Akeredolu’s) deputy, Hon . Lucky Aiyedatiwa, will continue to act as governor until there is a written declaration to the contrary.”
The Speaker, who appreciated God for the speedy recovery of the governor, expressed optimism that he would soon resume his duty.
But reacting to the development, the Publicity Secretary of the PDP in Ondo State, Mr Kennedy Peretei, said Akeredolu’s letter seeking extension vindicated the position of the party.
Peretei said “In the statement, I issued yesterday ( Sunday), I queried the Commissioner for Information, when she said, in her statement, that the governor was in high spirits but would return on a date determined by his doctors in Germany.
“The statement was inadequate. We expected the governor to write the Assembly again to extend his vacation.
“But today (Monday) they have just admitted that, that he has written to Assembly for the vacation.
“As long as it has to do with the governor’s health, there is nothing we can do and it is our prayer for the governor to recover quickly.”

The Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, on Monday adjourned till Thursday, July 13, 2023, the hearing of the petition filed by the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) against Governor Seyi Makinde’s victory in the March 18, 2023 governorship election.
This followed the motion for withdrawal of the case moved by the party.

Speaking on the decision of the party to withdraw the case after the court session, Oyo State chairman of APM, Adegbenro Fagbemi, said the motion to withdraw the case filed by the party against the emergence of Engr. Seyi Makinde of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the governor of Oyo State was the best decision the party could make.
According to him, the state executive members of the party were not aware of the case as they were kept in the dark by the national executive till the suit was filed.
He said further, “Withdrawing the case against Governor Seyi Makinde is our best decision. The case was a bit funny and there was an executive override from our national headquarters to have instituted a case against the successful and most celebrated election of Governor Seyi Makinde in Oyo State.
“The executive override is that they did not carry Oyo State executive along and we had to mount pressure on them, and we thank God that the national secretary is here with me in court all the way from Abuja and we are all in agreement that the case has to be withdrawn to allow peace to reign in the state,” he said.
He emphasised that he was at the collation centre as the state collation agent for APM during the polls and observed everything, adding that “I signed the election result that Governor Makinde was duly elected, so there is no case or reason to go to court.
“None of the Oyo State exco members, including the candidate, Adeniran Oluseye from Oyo, was aware of the case until we were called by the court. We were never in support of the case and we are satisfied with the withdrawal. We thank Oyo citizens for being patient with us while this lasted.”
But while speaking after the court session, Otunba Kunle Kalejaiye (SAN), the lead counsel for Governor Makinde, said the case was unnecessary and a waste of time, insisting that such a matter was not only frivolous but also ridiculous.
“We have prepared very seriously for the trial only for us to come this morning to meet a motion for withdrawal filed by them. It’s a sort of anticlimax to us, because we had thought this morning would be the beginning of legal fireworks. This is a political party that scored just a paltry 303 votes in the whole of Oyo State, challenging the victory of the man that scored over 560,000 votes.
“They have had their day in court and the tribunal has adjourned till Thursday to take that motion for withdrawal. Of course we are not opposing but when we get to that bridge, we will cross it.
“This is a matter that ought not to come to court in the first place and it supports my call to the legislature that for you to file an election petition, you must have scored a particular threshold of the total votes cast in that particular state.
“This is ridiculous; 303 votes out of all of Oyo State and you are filing petition, you made three judges to leave their jurisdictions to come and sit over a matter like this but that is still the law and we hope the legislature will do the right thing. It is unfair that three judges left their homes and jurisdictions to come and sit on a ridiculous case like this, it is totally unfair. I think something has to be done because this is a waste of court’s time and resources,” he lamented.

Following the official installation and presentation of staff of office to 10 of the 11 elevated Ibadan Obas, Oyo state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has lauded the governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde for ensuring that what was worth doing was done well in adherence with due process.
While praising the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Mahood Lekan Balogun for enhancing and enriching the Ibadan traditional institution over the request that birthed the elevation of the monarchs and subsequently installing them in an epochal event, the ruling PDP rallied more support and cooperation for the Olubadan-in Council as well as His Imperial Majesty, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Mahood Lekan Balogun.
A statement by the party’s state chairman, Honourable Dayo Ogungbenro and made available to journalists on Saturday morning by the state publicity secretary, Akeem Olatunji described the development as an important move that was long overdue.
Describing Makinde as a core democrat, nationalist, and a futuristic leader, the ruling PDP commended the governor for being a true son of the soil by not allowing himself distracted by the naysayers whose only job in the entire polity accroding to the party was to pose as a clog in the wheel of progress.
The party stressed that there was no basis for comparing what Makinde has done with what was previously done in term of the elevation of the new monarchs while drawing inference from the Holy Bible saying when the righteous rules, the people rejoice and not vice versa.
Oyo state PDP stated that, while what was previously done under the then administration was politically motivated in a needless face-off between the then governor and Olubadan of Ibadanland, what Makinde has done was to humbly honour and grant the request of the Olubadan of Ibadan, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Mahood Lekan Balogun to have the Ibadan High Chiefs elevated to the rank of Obas.
The party maintained that, while the elevation of the new monarchs has further enriched the Ibadan traditional institution especially the Olubadan-in Council, the order of ascendancy to the highly coveted throne remained preserved and unaltered as the naysayers may want unsuspecting members of the public to believe.
The PDP statement partly reads: “We want to specially thank His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde for his unfettered diligence and approach to governance. There’s no gainsaying that his style has continued to endear him to even pessimists and naysayers who were all out to fault his every move and action particularly on the Oyo state chieftaincy matters and newly elevated Ibadan monarchs.

The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio had on Tuesday announced Senator Opeyemi Bamidele as the Majority Leader; Senator Dave Umahi ( Ebonyi South) as Deputy Majority Leader; Ali Ndume (Borno South) as Chief Whip, and Lola Ashiru (Kwara South) as the Deputy Whip.
He also named Plateau North lawmaker, Mwadkwon Davou as Minority Leader while Osun West lawmaker, Kamorudeen Olarere (PDP Osun West) emerged as the Deputy Minority Leader.
Also, Darlington Nwokeocha, (LP Abia Central) was named Minority Whip while Rufai Hanga (NNPP Kano Central) was the Deputy Minority Whip.
Abbas on the other announced Julius Ihonvbere, the lawmaker representing Owan East/Owan West of Edo as the Majority Leader and Abdullahi Halims representing Ankpa/Omala/Olamaboro of Kogi as the Deputy Majority Leader.
Abbas equally announced Bello Kumo representing Akko federal constituency of Gombe as the Chief Whip and Adewunmi Onanuga representing Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North federal constituency in Ogun, as the Deputy Chief Whip.
Ali Isa of the PDP was named the Minority Whip, while George Ebizimawo of Labour Party was announced as deputy minority whip.
But displeased with the process, Adamu told a meeting of the NWC members and APC governors the ruling party was not involved in the emergence of the officers.
He said, “The national headquarters of the party of the NWC has not given any such information or communicated about the choice of offices. Until we formally resolve and communicate with them in writing which is the norm and practice, it is not our intention to break away from traditions.
“So, whatever announcement is done either the President of the Senate, Deputy Senate President, Speaker or Deputy Speaker, is not from this secretariat.
Adamu and Omisore arrived at the Aso Rock Villa a few minutes before 5pm, and were ushered into the President’s office shortly afterwards.
However, three key members of the NWC expressed their displeasure over the chairman’s stance in an off-record chat with selected journalists in Abuja on Wednesday.
Among other things, they distanced themselves from the former Nasarawa governor’s position that the APC had not endorsed the election of the majority leaders, deputy majority leaders, chief whip and deputy chief whip for the two chambers.
“That was the national chairman’s personal opinion, not the party’s position. After all, didn’t the emergence of the two chambers of National Assembly leaders receive the blessing of Mr President?” one of the committee members said.
They also explained that some governors, who bared their minds on the issue, also cautioned Adamu and further urged him to reach out to the National Assembly leadership to resolve the matter amicably.
Another NWC member expressed concern that it would appear the national chairman had made up his mind not to work in the interest of the President as his action “consistently’ negates virtually his government strives to achieve.’’
He stated, “It is really getting out of hand and there is an urgent need to call him to order. Many of us were not happy with what he said because it wasn’t discussed in our meeting with the governors. It was his personal view and not the position of the NWC.
“And we wonder why Adamu is consistently doing this. The party took a position on the National Assembly but the national chairman keeps talking about having ‘further and better consultations’ at every point. Am I saying anything different? Did you media people not report it? That amounts to rebellion and insubordination to the party.
“In fact, we understand both Akpabio and Abbas went all the way to Keffi to brief him long before he made that statement. I also heard Governor Hope Uzodinma said the governors are standing with the NASS and would seek means to resolve the friction.

Former Director General of Oyo state Liaison Office in Abuja and Lagos in the last administration, Comrade Wale Ajani has disclosed that he temporarily stood down his political ambition to join the government of Governor Seyi Makinde because of the its excellent performance. Under his tutelage, i’ve learnt a lot cos he is a goal getter and he doesnt care since its for the interest of the Oyo State. He is just a specie that the upcoming need to understudy. Anyone taking over from him must be highly innovative and development oriented cos he has set a standard that is not just for a mere politician but for another transformational leader.
He said the move to shelve his senatorial ambition was primarily geared towards learning the art of governance directly under the leadership of Governor Makinde who he said has become a national template for qualitative leadership in the country.
Ajani disclosed this on Sunday June 2 while featuring as a guest at a media interaction organized by the South West Guild of Online Publishers (SWEGOP) held in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.
While narrating his experience as former DG of Oyo state Liaison Officer in Abuja and Lagos, Ajani said Governor Makinde gave him a platform that provided the opportunity for him to put his wealth of experience to more productive use being former National President of the National Youth Council of Nigeria.
Describing Makinde as a nationalist whose approach to governance portends great hope for younger generation of political leaders. The Engineer turned Lawyer while expressing his gratitude noted that he would continue to learn, unlearn, and relearn from the Makinde school of modern politics until he was personally ready to hit the big stage again to contest elections in the future.
In his words, Ajani said, “Let me say this unequivocally that the number one primary thing is that I wouldn’t have joined any government if it was not performing. Governor Makinde was and still doing fantastically well in terms of leadership and good governance which was why some of feel very privileged to have worked directly with him. we may not be able to fully appreciate the fact that we have another Awolowo in our midst until the time when another generation would be telling our stories of today.
So, for me, It is the basis to join and contribute my own little quota because if you look at my antecedent, I contested in 2019 as a candidate under the ADC. If you know what happened, we that contested for House of Assembly were the canon folders.
As former Director-General of the Oyo State Liaison Office in Abuja and Lagos, what change were you able to bring to the table for the state?
Asked what positive change he was able to effect while in office as Liaison Officer in his less than one year appointment, Ajani said, some of the high notes and most memorable moments for him were periods of engaging national and international leaders on behalf of the Governor Makinde who he said has already established a highly reputable image for himself.
“I want to say this, my about nine or ten months in office was a very good time of learning, re-learning, and unlearning time for me. Although, I am not the kind of person going to an office without knowing what is expected of him to do. I came in with a very clear understanding, vision, and focus because I understand my principal who does not accept mediocrity or failure from a place of trust. And I also very well understand the job assigned to me by reason of being a former National President of the Youth Council.
“You are to represent your state interests at the Federal Capital Territory. It is just like a mini ambassador. It is just that some of us don’t enjoy appellation. I was one of the first that was given the title of youth ambassador in this country in the early 90’s. I have also had the privilege of travelling round the world representing young people at different global platforms so, I know the job of an ambassador vis-a-vis Liaison Officer.
“First thing i did after assumption of office was to change the image of the Oyo House which is the Embassy of Oyo State in Abuja, I discovered that a lot of things were not on the right track. You have to put everything in order because image is everything; perception is key How do you have Oyo House that when you look at the street, you would see Kastina (House), Rivers, Ogun, Ekiti, Lagos, etc., So, it was only Oyo House that urgently needed a facelift internally and externally.
“Secondly, I was able to restructure working administration of the staffers of Oyo House that were posted from Ibadan to Abuja. We had a meeting, everyone got a clear schedule of duty so no one was inactive.
“I checked the office files and discovered nobody had been engaging the federal MDAs on behalf of the State Government and with the permission of His Excellency Gov Seyi Makinde, i was able to lead the Oyo State team to more that 40 MDAs for proper engagement on what Omituntun 1.0 was about and also our achievements as a state. We also tried to make sure that we opened conversations, short and long term interest of the Seyi Makinde Administration.
“The third aspect was that one of the mission of Abuja and Lagos liaison office is to issue the Certificate of Indigene to Oyo State in the diaspora. Before the dissolution of the government, I have started the plans to make it seamless, leveraging on latest technology thereby, making it possible to acquire it without traveling over a long distance.
“The truth is that there are over 300 federal agencies in Abuja. Every of these agencies have one thing or the other that they are doing and we have 36 states in Nigeria. So, the liaison officers’ responsibility is to make sure that you go and ask how do my state benefit. They won’t come and tell you. Nobody will come to you and say because you are liaison officer or DG. You are just DG in your pocket.
“So, you have to go and look for opportunities for your people and engage them because it is not the same grammar that I speak when I get to Energy Commission of Nigeria that I am going to speak when I get to Rural Electrification Agency. Most times before you go to this people, you need to research and know exactly what you are going there to tell them, otherwise they would just rubbish you or think you are there for meet and greet.
“So, for me, it was a privilege to do what I had been doing before because as a former President of the National Youth Council in Nigeria, I was able to do a lot of things and it is similar. I was talking to government agencies and development partners on behalf of young people so it is easier for me to talk to development partners. I want to appreciate Gov Seyi Makinde for that opportunity.”
