Moroccan media reported it was the most powerful quake to ever hit the country.

A powerful earthquake that shook Morocco killed more than 600 people, officials said Saturday, sending terrified residents fleeing their homes in the middle of the night.

The 6.8-magnitude quake struck a mountainous area 72 kilometres (45 miles) southwest of tourist hotspot Marrakesh at 11:11 pm (2211 GMT) Friday, the US Geological Survey reported.

Strong tremors were also felt in the coastal cities of Rabat, Casablanca and Essaouira.

Moroccan media reported it was the most powerful quake to ever hit the country.

“We felt a very violent tremor, and I realised it was an earthquake,” Abdelhak El Amrani, 33, told AFP by telephone from Marrakesh.

“I could see buildings moving,” said Amrani who went outside, joining many other people, “all in shock and panic. The children were crying and the parents were distraught.”

“The power went out for 10 minutes, and so did the (telephone) network, but then it came back on,” he added. “Everyone decided to stay outside.”

Updated interior ministry figures on Saturday showed the quake killed 632 people, more than half of them in Al-Haouz and Taroudant provinces. The ministry also recorded deaths in Ouarzazate, Chichaoua, Azilal and Youssoufia provinces, as well as in Marrakesh, Agadir, and the Casablanca area.

Another 329 people were injured, including 51 in critical condition, the ministry said.

Unbearable’ screams

Faisal Baddour, an engineer, said he felt the earthquake three times in his building.

“There are families who are still sleeping outside because we were so scared of the force of this earthquake,” he said. “It was as if a train was passing close to our houses.”

Frenchman Michael Bizet, 43, who owns three traditional riad houses in Marrakesh’s old town, told AFP that he was in bed when the quake struck.

“I thought my bed was going to fly away. I went out into the street half-naked and immediately went to see my riads. It was chaos, a real catastrophe, madness,” he said.

Bizet shared a video of piles of rubble from collapsed walls in the streets.

This was made known in a statement signed by Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, and shared on Thursday.

Adejobi said, “In as much as the law grants Nigerians the right to enjoy their fundamental human rights, the same law prohibits an individual, under whatever guise, from rubbishing the police institution or grossly violating its provisions with regards to the use of uniforms.

“We, therefore, vehemently condemn the contemptuous act displayed by comedian Abdulgafar Abiola, popularly known as “Cute Abiola,” in two recent skits posted on his social media handles on 20th and 24th July 2023. The skits in question show a highly disrespectful and derogatory portrayal of the police uniform, an action that is in direct violation of Section 251 of the Criminal Code and Section 133 of the Penal Code Law. Such acts are not only offensive but also undermine the integrity and dignity of the men and women who wear the uniform in service to the nation.

“Abdulgafar Abiola will be investigated and possibly prosecuted for his deliberate acts as the NPF had already warned skit makers and filmmakers to desist from desecrating their uniform or accoutrements. The Force is committed to upholding the sanctity of the uniform and will pursue due legal process to ensure accountability for any individual or entity that seeks to bring disrepute to the uniform or the institution it represents. We call on all members of the public, including media personalities, to exercise their freedom of expression responsibly and avoid engaging in actions that could erode public trust in our revered law enforcement institutions.”

Hulabaloo As NDLEA Reportedly Kill Two Residents During Lagos Raid

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have allegedly shot dead two persons including one Gafar Yusuf, in the Idioro area of Mushin, Lagos State.

Hulabaloo As NDLEA Reportedly Kill Two Residents During Lagos Raid

It was gathered that the NDLEA operatives stormed the community around 10pm on Wednesday to raid a drug den when they started shooting sporadically in a bid to achieve their aim.

While engaging in the act, it was learnt that stray bullets from the operatives, shooting sporadically to scare hoodlums attempting to scuttle their plan in the community, killed the victims.

A resident, who gave his name simply as Olasunkanmi, while lamenting over the development, questioned the operatives for shooting sporadically in a residential area, adding that the bullets hit Yusuf’s head and the yet-to-be-identified victim’s chest.

He noted that the victims died on the spot, adding that people in the community had been enraged by the development.

Olasunkanmi said, “We are not saying the NDLEA should not do their job, but why will its operatives be shooting anyhow in a residential area? The NDLEA operatives invaded a drug den in the community around 10pm and started seizing illicit drugs which is OK.

“The operatives were about 50 in number and most of them were armed. While some wore the official uniform, others were dressed in casual wear. The people dealing in the drug business were enraged by the raid and started threatening to make trouble.

“But the NDLEA operatives started shooting to have their way and stray bullets hit two young boys in the head and chest. Both of them died on the spot. The name of one of the victims is Gafar Yusuf. After killing them, the NDLEA operatives attempted to take their corpses away but people in the area resisted.”

Another resident, who gave his name simply as Lukmon, said Yusuf’s mother, Olaide, who had been inconsolable since the shocking events that claimed her son’s life, informed him about the incident.

He said, “We are tired of the NDLEA’s issue in our neighbourhood. Why will they be shooting carelessly in a residential neighbourhood? If they want to work, it is expected that they would have a target and they should have a plan for how they will arrest the target instead of shooting carelessly to the point of killing two innocent persons.

“It is uncalled for; they suddenly stormed the area with guns and started shooting. Gafar Yusuf, 22, was killed on Imoru Street. We are already making arrangements to bury his corpse. We heard three people were killed during the raid but what I can confirm to you for now is the death of two persons.

“Yusuf’s mother called me yesterday that a bullet had hit him and that he was running errands when he got struck down by the bullets fired by the NDLEA operatives.”

Video clips in possession of our correspondent showed people running helter-skelter during the raid that created tension in the community.

In one of the video clips, our correspondent observed residents in the area shedding tears as they surrounded the corpses of the victims that lay motionless on the road.

Blood stains gushing out of the corpses were visible on the road as people expressed anger over the tragedy.

When contacted, the spokesperson for the NDLEA, Femi Babafemi, did not take his calls and had yet to reply to a text message sent to his mobile number as of the time this report was filed.

A suspected fraudster trading under the business name “Capital Plus Investment Services Ltd”, owned by Paul Demudia Eigbefoh is on the run after allegedly defrauding a leading oil and gas company in the country to the tune of N67.5million last week.

The affected firm has petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for recovery of N67.5 million alleged to have been fraudulently obtained by the fleeing Paul Demudia Eigbefoh, also known as Paul Smith.

The firm in a petition dated July 24 2023 by its counsel, Bala Omar Yakubu and Co, and addressed to the EFCC Lagos Command, alleged that Paul Demudia Eigbefoh and Capital Plus Investment Services Limited, obtained the sum of N67.5 million, under false pretence.

It disclosed that Paul Demudia Eigbefoh who held himself out as the alter-ego of Capital Plus approached the conglomerate to offer it financial services to augment its working capital.

The petition read in part, “Our company which deals in petroleum down section of the economy and has retail outlets in some Southwest States and the Federal Capital Territory.

The firm had applied for a loan facility but was asked to pay N67.5million to enjoy the facility. No sooner had the said money paid to the suspected fraudster, Paul Demudia Eigbefoh that he bolted away from his known office and house addresses and also switched-off his phone since last week.

“As part of the condition for the said disbursement, the said Paul Demudia Eigbefoh insisted that the company make an equity contribution to the sum of N60,000,000 million, notwithstanding that he had asked for an initial collateral of our client’s movable assets.”

It added that the persistence of Paul Demudia Eigbefoh that the equity contribution be paid in order to facilitate the said disbursement led to the payment of the amount, noting that it paid the sum of N7,500,000 on July 14, 2023 as processing fee charges and N60 million as equity contribution into the company’s account.

It stated further that the money were paid into Fidelity Bank Plc account number 5600141150 belonging to Capital Plus Investment Services Limited, alleging that shortly after the last tranche of N60 million was received by Capital Plus Investment Services Limited, it shut down all means of communications with it.

It similarly disclosed that its officials had to visit the company’s address at Block 69, Kusenla Road, Ikate Lekki in Lagos State but found the place deserted, stating that on detecting this it notified its bankers, who in turn got in touch with the recipient beneficiary bank, Fidelity Bank Plc to notify it of the said fraud.

“It was discovered by Fidelity Bank that as soon as the said sum was received, the said company moved it in tranches to other beneficiaries of the said fraud in other Banks.

The company has therefore urged the EFCC commander to help use his good office in treating the case as a matter of urgency.

All efforts by reporters to reach Paul Demudia Eigbefoh through his house and office addresses were futile, just as his widely known phone contact 08060510537 was switched-off, since Friday.

Thirty-one-year-old Laura Ilg was still conscious when officers with the Norwalk Police Department responded to her 911 call on Friday afternoon (19 June). After law enforcement broke inside the property, Ilg told officers that her two-year-old son had managed to get ahold of a gun in the house and accidentally opened fire on her.

The mother-of-two was in a second-floor bedroom. She was reportedly in shock but remained calm when she recounted the tragedy to police, Cleveland 19 reported.

Ilg, who was 33 weeks pregnant, was rushed to the Fisher-Titus Medical Center, where doctors performed an emergency C-section. However, both Ilg and her newborn baby died as a result of the injuries they sustained during the shooting, Police Chief Dave Smith said during a press conference on Tuesday.

Mr Smith said that a SIG Sauer micro 9 mm handgun was recovered from the scene. Authorities concluded that the home did have several safety features installed to keep the child from gaining access to the gun, including baby gates and a bedroom lock, Mr Smith said.

However, on the day of the shooting, the bedroom door was accidentally left open. The gun was on a nightstand inside, police said.

Many private stations were not selling as of the time of filing this report.

In his inauguration speech, Tinubu had said subsidy was benefitting the rich at the expense of poor.

“We commend the decision of the outgoing administration in phasing out the petrol subsidy regime which has increasingly favoured the rich more than the poor. Subsidy can no longer justify its ever-increasing costs in the wake of drying resources. We shall instead re-channel the funds into better investment in public infrastructure, education, health care and jobs that will materially improve the lives of millions,” he said.

He said he would also  review complaints on multiple taxation so as to boost the economy and attract investors.

UK Finally Bans Nigerian Students, Others From Bringing Family   Eaglessightnews  reports.

United Kingdom has announced restrictions barring foreign students from bringing family members into the country.

Recall that that this reliable online newspaper’Eaglessightnews’ earlier reported yesterday that UK is set to announce the ban

According to the nation newspaper, The Home Secretary, Suella Braverman announced the ban as part of the push to reduce net migration.

She said all foreign students – apart from those on postgraduate research programmes – will be banned from bringing their dependents from January 2024.

Also read: UK set to Ban Nigerian Students,Others from Bringing Family

The UK permits dependants to accompany their spouses or parent(s) who have a valid student visa.

Braverman had said there had been an “unexpected” spike in the number of dependents – saying the economic benfits brough by students could “not be at the expense” of the Tory promise to cut immigration.

The ban will affect all master’s students and some other post-graduates, but it will not apply to PhD students who are highly skilled and whose courses last between 3 to 5 years.

If implemented, the crackdown will affect many Nigerian students hoping to pursue their postgraduate studies in the UK, as they accounted for the highest increase in the number of dependants accompanying persons with study visas in 2022.

INSIDE LIFE:SAD! In Oyo, Man Recounts How His Nephew, a Teenager Killed His Father Hidden By Mother-Eagle’s Sight News

A teenager, Ismail Adeagbo, is currently in police custody for allegedly killing his father, Jimoh Adeagbo.

The incident happened on April 21, 2023, in Tede, Atisbo Local Government Area, Oyo State, and was reported to the police by Ismail’s uncle, Taofeek Adeagbo.

Taofeek had no hand in the incident as earlier reported.

Narrating the incident to City Round, the 43-year-old said, “I am the younger brother of the deceased, Jimoh Adeagbo. On the morning of the incident, April 21, 2023, his son, Ismail Adeagbo, came to my house to report it, but he didn’t meet me at home. So, he told my wife that his father had died.

“I was called over the phone and I rushed down there. I looked at the body and saw that something hit his head. I then said that this was not an ordinary death and that we must report the case to the police. I then went to the station to report and the police came to investigate and began to ask questions from his wife, Rasheedat Adeagbo, and one of his daughters, Aishat.”

Taofeek stated that he kept asking where Ismail was as he was not at the house.

Taofeek Gives Reason For Insisting On Ismail’s Whereabout

On the reason for insisting on Ismail’s whereabouts, Taofeek said the suspect had stabbed his father before.

“He stabbed his father with a knife about six months before; that was why I suspected him and requested the police to interrogate him.

“When he was interrogated by the police at the station, he said his father did not like him and his mother and kept cursing them. He is the fourth born but first son among the father’s children,” Taofeek stated.

He noted that Ismail was not seen throughout that day, meanwhile, he was inside the room and hid under the bed.

Taofeek Gives More Details

Taofeek added, “His phone was with his mother and she told us that she didn’t know where her son was and that this was his phone.

“The police took his mother into custody and the house was closed and kept under the watch of vigilantes and local hunters.

“On April 22, which was the second day of the incident, we decided to go into the house to get Ismail’s photos that would be used as evidence at the police station. That was when we saw him in the house.

“We then asked if he was the one that committed the crime and he admitted. He explained everything to his mum after he committed the act.

“The police said they (suspect and mother) would be charged but we were told that there was a delay and they would be charged next week.”

He stated that Ismail and his mother remained in custody at Iyaganku Police Station, Ibadan.

Parading the suspects in Ibadan last Friday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, had said the suspect’s mother was arrested for concealing the crime after the son confessed to her.

However, Rashedat said she woke up to see the lifeless body of her husband on the floor.

“I have seven children for my late husband; even though we normally quarrel, I would never wish him dead,” she added.

How INEC chairman, Mahmood Tactically, Transparently Rigged Elections-Report

How INEC chairman, Mahmood Tactically, Transparently Rigged Elections – Giwa alleges

The head of Awaiting The Second Coming of Christ Ministry, Pastor Adewale Giwa has described Prof. Mahmood Yakubu as the worst Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

Giwa claimed that the 2023 presidential election was not the first time Yakubu would be rigging elections.

According to him, Yakubu allegedly rigged the 2019 election in favour of Buhari against Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and recently rigged out Atiku and Peter Obi in favour of Bola Tinubu of the ruling party.

In a statement to DAILY POST on Friday, Giwa said “The recent rigging was embarrassing and disgraceful.

“People like Mahmood are the reason Western countries insult Africans who flee their countries in search of fair and equal economic opportunities.

“Yakubu tactically and transparently rigged the past and present elections due to greed and corruption.

Even in Adamawa, the world could clearly see what the nation’s electoral body represents. It is very evident that Mahmood, like other politicians, is ruled by greed and selfishness. What do you expect from a man nominated by president Buhari?

“It’s time for Nigeria to practice true federalism where the people select the national electoral body to avoid presidents selecting ‘Mahmood-like’ individuals to rule in their favour,” he claimed.

JUST-IN: Adamawa REC, Others Reportedly Strip Naked, Beaten After Announcing Binani Gov Elect (See Video)

Following the declaration of Binani as the Elected Governor of Adamawa, unconfirmed news has reached the desk of Eagle’s Sight News over the confession to collect bribes after several beatings and tortures.

In the viral video, the Adamawa State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Barrister Hudu Yunusa Ari, and some others were been harassed by a party agent.

Infopowerng reports that the party agent reportedly attacked the Adamawa REC for announcing a winner of the election without collating results.

The aftermath of the several beatings according to the video led to the confession of the REC.

Recall that Ari had stoked controversy in the state’s governorship election on Sunday after declaring All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Senator Aishatu Binani, as the winner of the supplementary governorship election.

His announcement elicited protests from members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) present at the state collation center in Yola.
Also, in a statement by its National Commissioner, Information and Voter Education, Festus Okoye, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said the process had not been concluded.

It added that the action of the REC was a usurpation of the powers of the state Returning Officer (RO) and was therefore null, void, and of no effect.

The truth of this news and details are sketchy as of the pressing time.

It was gathered that her lifeless body was found at about 10am in the community with multiple injuries and blood stains in her private parts.

Speaking to newsmen, the deceased’s husband, Pastor Lawyer Steward, confirmed the incident, saying he was informed that a known cultist accused his wife of always gossiping with his name.

Steward stated, “I am the husband of Chigbejim, who was murdered yesterday by a group of boys. After raping her, they murdered her.”

Asked if he had problems with anyone prior to the incident, the cleric said he was neither a cultist nor had issues with anyone.

“I am not a cultist; I am an Assistant Pastor in charge of Evangelism in the Seventh Day Adventist Church Abarikpo. Everybody in my community knows I am not a cultist.

“She gave birth to three children, one is late. My daughter is seven, while the little one, a boy, is three years’ old.

“One boy, Sunday, a cultist, claimed he slaughtered my wife because she gossiped and spoke against him. That people told him my wife always spoke against him.

“That is the reason he murdered her. He is a cultist,” said the distraught man. He revealed that the Ahoada Divisional Police Officer visited the scene on Sunday evening.

Steward called on the law enforcement agencies and the government to apprehend the perpetrators and make them to face justice.

“I am calling on the government to help me find those boys that kidnapped my wife, raped and murdered her.

“Let the government and the police help to arrest them and make them pay for what they did to my wife,” the cleric stated.

Speaking, the Public Relations Officer of Igbu Akoh Clan Youth Congress, Ahoada East LGA, Ekeakita Chinem, also confirmed the incident, saying the community had been experiencing a series of killings in recent times.

“So, like we have been having a series of killings in Akoh. When they kill, nobody goes after the bad boys. No security person goes after the bad boys.

“Mrs Steward was kidnapped around 1am; only for us to find out around 10am this morning that she was lifeless after being raped.

“She had bruises in her private parts, especially on her thighs. There was blood all over her body too.

“So, people are living in fear, nervous that no political leader or government agency goes after them. You report or don’t report, what will happen,” he said.

Asked if the matter was cult-related, Chinem answered in the negative, saying she was a married woman.

He recalled, “Late last year, we witnessed 11 killings in that same community. A member of one of the cult groups went to their camp and collected the AK-47 of their master and ran away to their community at Abarikpo. The cult leader sent his boys after him and innocent people; about 11 persons were killed.

“And till today, there is no investigation, no action was taken by the police to fish out the perpetrators from where they are hiding. Nothing at all.”

Meanwhile, a group, the Centre for Basic Rights Protection and Accountability Campaign, has condemned the abduction and rape of Mrs Steward, leading to her death.

The National Coordinator, Prince Wiro, called on the police to carry out proper investigation with a view to apprehending the culprits and making them face justice.

Wiro stated,” It is important that the police get to work. They must carry out a thorough investigation to ensure that the culprits are arrested so that the woman gets justice.”

Efforts to reach the spokesperson for the state police command, Grace Iringe-Koko, proved abortive, as she did not respond to calls put across to her.

Iringe-Koko, a Superintendent of Police, had yet to reply to a text message sent to her mobile telephone as of the time of filing this report.

He said, “What first caught my attention was the damaged lectern placed on the altar and some broken bottles that littered the church auditorium.

“Many of the plastic chairs belonging to the church and offering trays were set ablaze inside the church. This is malicious damage and we don’t know who could have done this to the church of God.”

Akinadewo-Adekahunsi added that the church’s hymn books and other items kept in a room in the uncompleted church building were also destroyed while the church’s prayer room was also touched by the attackers.

JUST IN: Protest rocks Abeokuta over fuel, naira scarcity

A protest broke out in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital on Tuesday when residents poured into the roads and streets over biting scarcity of cash and the attendant excruciating pains.

Aladesanmi, Fajol and Somorin in Obantoko area of Abeokuta were taken over by the protesters, making bonfires and chanting anti – CBN songs.

The Sapon branch of First Bank was also vandalised as the protesters attempted to set it ablaze.

Ogun Police spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed the protest to The Nation, said officers are monitoring the situation to prevent the destruction of property and loss of lives.

Oyeyemi, a Superintendent of Police (SP), said a group of boys is involved, stressing the Command was studying the protesters to know whether they are Okada riders or not.

Although the police stormed the locations and dispersed the protesters, they regrouped as soon as the operatives withdrew from the scene in greater intensity and made bonfires with disused tires.

The situation disrupted vehicular movement as motorists and pedestrians ran off the road in safe directions to avoid the protesters.

STOP CHARACTER ASSASINATION: MR. OLONADE EYITAYO (OYRTMA OFFICER) WAS ACCUSED OF SEXUAL HARRASEMENT BY MRS AKANDE’S HUSBAND NOT MOGAJI AKIN FAGBEMI- OYRTMA RESPONDS

STOP CHARACTER ASSASINATION: MR. OLONADE EYITAYO (OYRTMA OFFICER) WAS ACCUSED OF SEXUAL HARRASEMENT BY MRS AKANDE’S HUSBAND NOT MOGAJI AKIN FAGBEMI- OYRTMA RESPONDS

27th January, 2023.

Attention of the Oyo State Road Transport Management Authority (OYRTMA) has been drawn to a misleading publication making the rounds on social media emanating from one faceless blog, Premiumdailys.com. The blog, in an unsubstantiated article titled “OYRTMA Ad-hoc Staff Alleged Boss, Fagbemi of Sexual Harassment, Physical Torture Leads to Lost of Pregnancy” had alleged the presumed involvement of our Executive Chairman, Mogaji Akin Fagbemi Ph.D in the loss of a pregnancy of one Mrs. Akande Victoria who according to the blog was an OYRTMA ad-hoc staff.

Ordinarily, it is not in the nature of this Authority to issue a rejoinder on issues emanating from faceless political oppositions through gutter journalism devoid of reasonable contents and apparently targeted at tarnishing the image of the Oyo State Government led by His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde and particularly the fast-rising public image of the Executive Chairman of OYRTMA, Mogaji Akin Fagbemi especially at this crucial period of politics and elections.

However, in the best interest of the general public, it is important we issue this rejoinder to put the records straight and avoid continuous spread of misinformation.

The Authority received a letter dated 23rd December 2022 from one Mr. Ogunlade Oladele Akande, husband to Mrs. Akande Victoria titled “Complain on Olonade Eyitayo, Who Absconded with Akande Victoria, My Wife” (see attached). This letter was fortified with pictorial evidences of alleged illicit sexual affairs between Mrs. Akande Victoria and Mr. Olonade Eyitayo (see attached) who is an Officer of the Authority. Mr. Ogunlade (Akande) had through the letter disclosed that his wife, Mrs. Akande Victoria had left home since August, 2022 claiming to have travelled to Ife town only to be told by different people that she was at different times sighted with Officer Olonade Eyitayo in Oyo town.

Upon receipt of these grievous allegations against the person of Officer Olonade Eyitayo, the Executive Chairman of the OYRTMA, Mogaji Akin Fagbemi had constituted a five-man panel of enquiry led by the General Manager of the Authority, Mr. Adeoye Kola Ayoade to unravel the nitty-gritty of the matter. The panel of enquiry swung into action and visited the operational base of Officer Olonade Eyitayo in Oyo town to meet with all concerned. It was at this point that the panel met one Mrs. Akande Victoria claiming to be a secretary to Officer Olonade Eyitayo.

Investigations during the visit revealed some unexplainable financial dealings linked to Mrs. Akande Victoria and as at the time of writing this rejoinder, the investigations are still ongoing internally to ascertain the true picture of events. Contrary to claims of assault and physical harassment in the article, it is imperative to state that at no point during the investigation process was Mrs. Akande Victoria or any other person for that matter physically assaulted or brutalized. This could be affirmed to by eyewitnesses including OYRTMA Officials present and family relatives of both Officer Olonade and Mrs. Victoria who were present at the scene.

In its official response to Mr. Ogunlade’s letter of complaint, the Authority had through a letter dated 4th January, 2023 explained the immediate actions the Authority had taken to get the facts of the matter and restore normalcy in accordance to the rules of engagement of the Authority (see attached).

While expressing his personal appreciation to the Executive Chairman of the Authority, Mogaji Akin Fagbemi for his quick intervention on the matter, Mr. Ogunlade, husbad to Mrs. Victoria Akande had through a text message sent to the Authority disclosed that only the wife could explain anything about the alleged pregnancy as she was not diagnosed pregnant before absconding from home in August, 2022. He also said that the Authority would receive official communication from his personal lawyer on or before next week to appreciate the Executive Chairman for his roles in resolving the impasse with his estranged wife.

Since investigations into the entire matter is yet to be concluded hitherto, it is highly preemptive of anyone especially some paid bloggers to go about misinforming the public on official civil service issues that are still undergoing administrative investigations and procedures in line with civil service rules and regulations.

To this end, publishers of premiumdailys.com and their cohorts are strongly advised to within three (3) working days tender unreserved public apology published in at least three prominent National Dailies including The Nigerian Tribune and two others, to the person of the Executive Chairman of OYRTMA, Mogaji Akin Fagbemi Ph.D for publicizing fake news and distorted information in an attempt to smear his hard-earned name and that of the Authority. Failure to comply with this advice might lead to serious litigations.

Again, the Authority appreciates the good people of Oyo State for standing by her towards ensuring safety on the roads at all times even in the face of serious provocations and oppositions by serial road traffic offenders and those hell-bent on transgressing the Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority Law, 2009.

Bolanle Raheem: Suspected Killer Cop Pleads Not Guilty

Eagle’s Sight News has gathered that the suspected killer cop and an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Mr. Drambi Vandi, Monday, pleaded not guilty to the alleged killing of a Lagos-based lawyer, Mrs. Omobolanle Raheem, on Christmas Day.

ASP Vandi came up with his not-guilty plea position after being arraigned by the Lagos State Government on one count of murder, contrary to Section 223 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The court proceeding, which was slated for 9 am, had suffered setbacks until about 11am when Vandi’s counsel, Mr. Adetokunbo Odutola arrived.

It would be recalled that when the matter was earlier called, the Lagos State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Moyo Onigbanjo (SAN) who is leading the prosecution had informed the High Court of Lagos State, TBS, presided over by Justice I.O. Harrison, that he was informed the defence counsel was still on his way.

Recall Eagle’s Sight News had reported that Raheem was shot dead on Christmas Day while she was in a car with her family at Ajah Under-bridge.

Ajah is a popular area in Lagos, along the Lekki-Epe Expressway.

As gathered from, Sahara reported in a recent update, the State Attorney General, Moyosore Onigbanjo, SAN, informed the court on Monday that there was a witness in court and the state was ready to commence trial.

The defence counsel, Adetokunbo Odutola, who did not oppose the application pleaded with the court for an accelerated hearing.

A police inspector, Mathew Ahmen who gave his testimony as the first prosecution witness, said Vandi was the leader of their team.

The officer said he was sandwiched by Vandi and another officer identified as Inspector Dimini.

He said Dimini flagged down Raheem’s car but its driver did not stop. He said he also flagged down the car but the driver did not stop.

He said, “The next thing I heard was a gunshot and I looked back to see what was happening and I saw that a windscreen was falling.

“The next thing I saw again was a dark woman who jumped down from the vehicle and I heard her saying ‘oga, you have killed my sister.’ The woman held him and before I and Dimini could get to them, they had entered the car, locked it and left.”

GUNMEN ATTACK PVC COLLECTION CENTRE IN IMO, KILL SECURITY MAN

The spate of violence in Imo State continued unabated on Saturday morning when gunmen struck at a Permanent Voter Cards (PVC) collection centre at Afor Oru, headquarters of Ahiazu Mbaise local government area.

An eyewitness who narrated what happened to Pointblanknews.com said the gunmen who did not meet any of the officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ended up killing the security man without laying their hands on the cards.

According to the eyewitness, who pleaded anonymity, “The gunmen came this morning. They drove straight to the PVC collection centre which is in the Chairman’s guest house inside the Council secretariat.

“If you recall, hoodlums vandalised the INEC office in the local government which is behind the Chioma Ajunwa Stadium and the sole administrator, Chief Tony Anakani, gave INEC his guest house inside the expansive council secretariat for use.

“That was where the gunmen came. Fortunately, none of the INEC staff was around. Some people said they had information of an imminent attack and stayed away.

“So, they took the security man at the PVC collection centre, one young man from Umuezuo village, Umuokirika, in their vehicle and drove just outside the Council Secretariat gate, brought him out and shot him dead.

“Nobody knows while they killed him and they left his body there and drove away.”

Another source said on their way out, the gunmen also stopped a car driven by one Mr. John Onuoha, younger brother to late Chief P.C. Onuoha, a prominent politician who hailed from Ihitte-Afoukwu community also in Ahiazu-Mbaise LGA.

Chief Onuoha, a member of the Imo State House of Assembly in the Second Republic and a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) died last year.

According to our source: “Jovak (John Onuoha) was driving home when he ran into the hoodlums. They stopped him and asked him what he was doing on that road at that time. The road from Ahiara Junction through Afor Oru, Ihitte-Afoukwu to Aba Branch passed in front of the Ahiazu-Mbaise Council Secretariat.

“Jovak told them he was going home. They thought he was coming to the PVC collection centre. They ordered him out of his car, ransacked it and didn’t see anything other than money and perfume. They didn’t touch the money but took the bottle of perfume in his car.

“They told him that he was lucky, that they were looking for politicians and Jovak told them that he has nothing to do with politics. That was why they left him and asked him to go.”

The whole area is tensed up and people are wondering who is behind the violence that has engulfed the entire state, said our source.Sourced from Pointblank news

IBADAN: How Angry’ Driver kills Dispatch Rider on Ibadan Highway. •Police Say It’s a ‘Bailable Offence(Full News+Photos)- Eagle’s Sight News

‘Angry’ Driver kills Dispatch Rider on Ibadan Highway. Police Say It’s a ‘Bailable Offence

Godwin Agbo, a dispatch rider with the online shopping mall Jumia, was knocked down by Adeoye Adekunle, who drove a Lexus RX with registration number EKY 337 EL, around Forte Oil, Ring Road, in the Oluyole area of Ibadan on Friday because of what Emmanuel Agbo, the deceased ‘s brother, described as a minor argument.

In the night, Agbo was rushed to two clinical hospitals, where he was pronounced dead before “his corpse was brought back to the incident scene”.

On Monday, FIJ learnt, Emmanuel put a phone call through to SP Adewale Osifeso, the Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, complaining bitterly about how irresponsibly the police officers stationed at the Iyaganku Police Division were handling the matter.

Godwin Agbo

A Forte Oil attendant, Ambrose, said “the driver was driving at a very high speed and Godwin’s bike was in the front. He drove away after hitting Godwin, and passed through the one way in a bid to escape. But then, a trailer was making a U-turn and he was caught by the two riders that ran after him.”

Another eyewitness, Sunday, who is a shoe trader, stated that Godwin was still alive at “the point he was crushed”.

“I begged the people to help take him to the hospital, and we did but he was rejected. When we got back to the scene from the hospital, the driver attempted to run away but he was intercepted by some angry mob,” he said.

“I was sat with the driver on the same bike when he was being taken to Oluyole Police Station. We were given two police officers to follow us down to Iyagunku Police Station, where the case was later transferred to.”

Asked whether the murder was intentional or accidental, Adekunle’s brother, Kola, told FIJ on Thursday that “this time around we can’t even say whether it was accidental or intentional. A life has been lost, and we have to sympathise with the family. I can’t really talk about the issue for now because of the family. I hope you understand”.

“Let me burst your bubble: his phone was stolen. So many things were stolen from his car at the scene of the incident. But who do we explain those ones to? This is Nigeria, and people can go on social media and say what they like.”

‘THEY TOOK US TO THE MORTUARY’

“He was chasing him with his car till he hit him down and ran over him,” Emmanuel said of the killer of his brother. “He tried to escape but was later apprehended.”

“I doubt my brother had cast him stones as the driver and Iyagunku Police Station claim. It was just a misunderstanding that happened between them, which is a common thing on highways among drivers and riders.

“My brother was taken to two clinical hospitals. He was rejected and later his corpse was brought back to the scene. The eyewitnesses took the suspect to Oluyole Police Station, where he was later transferred to the Iyaganku Police Station. That was how Iyaganku patrol vehicle came to the scene, took my elder brother, the deceased, and me to the mortuary in Oke-Ado, Ibadan. We deposited the corpse on Friday night,” he added.

Emmanuel explained that when he got to the police station on Saturday, “the way the Divisional Police Officer of Iyaganku, CSP Akintunde Oyeniran, was handling the case was just abnormal”.

“I suspect the DPO had a relationship with the killer, because the murder case was not registered with them,” he said.

“That was why they (the police) transferred the case from Oluyole because they knew Iyaganku DPO would act in the favour of the killer family, a clear cooperation between the two police stations and the suspect’s family.”

‘IT IS A BAILABLE OFFENCE’

Oyeniran called on the phone on Tuesday, telling FIJ that he was not permitted by the law to discuss such matters with the press and that we should speak with the PPRO instead.

Before then, on Saturday, the DPO had told the Agbo family that “it was a bailable offence”.

“How would you say it’s a bailable offence when our brother is lying in the mortuary dead? An intentional murder that is not accidental,” Emmanuel retorted.

“He killed him on purpose. He was chasing him. It was not an accident. The DPO was like ‘Shebi we too dey drive nah; shey we no dey do mistake?’ It was your brother who stone the suspect. If he no look for trouble, shey dey go kill am?’

“Two policemen were on the ground when he was saying the jargon he was saying, that it’s a bailable offence, that he could be bailed anytime.”

Emmanuel had received a call from the inspector of police at the Iyaganku division, inviting him for a consensus that it was “an accident”.

“They were taking the case as a minor case, a case that should have been transferred to the state CID. They did not even go to the scene to carry out any investigation but were just concluding that it was an accident,” he said.

“After some eyewitnesses narrated how intentionally, and not accidentally, my brother was murdered to the DPO, he ordered the police officers not to release him on bail.

“Then, in the evening, after an interval of 30 minutes, I got a call from the IP, who told me that they would be taking the matter to the court on Tuesday as an accident case. I told him emphatically that it was a pure murder case. A policeman who was within earshot snapped in, ‘Why would you be treating these people like that? Is it because they don’t have money or they don’t have anybody to support them?”

‘THEY CAME FOR BARGAINING’

FIJ spoke with the state PPRO Adewale Osifeso on the phone on Tuesday, who did confirm the incident and stated categorically that he had told the complainant (Emmanuel) to issue a formal complaint to the Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Williams, about their grievances on how the Iyaganku police division was handling the case.

“I have told them (the victims) they have every right to walk to the commissioner of police, stating their fears and how they want immediate intervention in the matter. I even volunteered that as soon as they got there they should call me and I would take them to his office,” Osifeso said.

However, Emmanuel told FIJ plans had been made to go to the commissioner’s office on Tuesday but then the family of the suspect had already taken the matter to the court in the early hours of the day and that the same family had come to negotiate with them in the family home (the Agbos), promising that they were going to bear the responsibilities of Agbo’s burial, his wife and his three children.

“We just concluded that what has happened has happened. They came in a crowd, including two pastors, pleading that the case should not proceed. They asked what they should do. And we concluded that they would cater for the burial, cater for his (Agbo’s) three children,” he said.

“That same time the case was taken to court, their family members had come begging and negotiating. I don’t even know the tactic or game plan hidden there.”

Rivers Police Bust Child Trafficking Syndicate, Rescue Pregnant Teenagers

In a move being hailed as a major achievement, the Rivers State Police Command has busted a child trafficking syndicate operating in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

Acting on intelligence, the C4i Intelligence Unit Operatives of the Command over the weekend raided two buildings at Igwuruta and Omagwa communities respectively, both in the Ikwerre Local Government Area of the state where victims of child trafficking were being kept.

Some of the victim are as young as 15 years old and are heavily pregnant while others nurse infants.

They were lured with the promise of financial reward depending on the sex of the baby they delivered.

One of the victims said she was promised the sum of N800,000 if she births a male child, and N700,000 for a female.

This position is corroborated by Peace, who is one of the four arrested suspects believed to be running the syndicate. The suspect claimed she merely provided shelter and care for the pregnant girls in her home.

Providing an update on the incident however, the police spokesperson in Rivers, Grace Iringe-Koko explained that at the moment, both the victims and suspects are in the custody of the CP Monitoring Unit but will soon be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.

A child trafficking ring run by an alleged fake reverend sister was also busted in the state in 2022 and the children recovered have since been reunited with their families.Sourced from channels

JUST IN:16 DEAD AS NOTORIOUS TERRORIST ESCAPES MILITARY’S AIR RAID IN ZAMFARA

Notorious terrorist, Dankarami, who is also known as Gwaska, has escaped a bombing raid by the Nigerian Air Force with serious injuries after his hideout in Zurmi was bombarded on Saturday morning.

PRNigeria, an online news medium, reported that 16 militants of Mr Dankarami’s gang were killed by the air strike.

“A reliable and impeccable source privy to the modus operandi of the terrorist kingpin has confirmed overhearing the terrorist lamenting on the determination of the military to eliminate him and his family.

“He was also heard to have complained bitterly on the New Year’s Eve air strikes, which lasted for several hours, killing over 16 of his cohorts and destroying his newly built house as well as his enclave,” the military intelligence operative disclosed to PRNigeria.

The Air Force spokesperson, Edward Gabkwet, confirmed the air raid to PRNigeria.

“The directive of the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Oladayo Amao, is that there is no hiding place for all terrorists and their supporters wherever they may remain active even as we cross into the New Year,” he told the newspaper.

A resident of Zurmi, Nura Kabiru, said he didn’t know the number of those killed but confirmed he saw the Air Force jets hovering around in the morning.

“We’ll not know how many of them (bandits) killed but I, like many others, saw the jets. Our only concern is that the bandits will now attack more rural communities in retaliation for this (air strikes),” he told PREMIUM TIMES over the phone.

Mr Dankarami, who is from the Zurmi Local Government Area in Zamfara, is notorious for terrorising residents of areas in Northern Zamfara and Western Katsina States.

He has carried out a series of attacks on residents of the two states and he is averse to dialogue. He is one of the few terrorist leaders that didn’t accept the peace accord extended to the bandits by the Zamfara State government in 2019.
