Eaglessightnews has gathered that an Africa woman,  Safina Namukwaya  age 70 from Uganda  has become a mother after given birth to twins.

“An extraordinary feat”, her doctor told AFP on Thursday.

In a report sighted from Vanguard ,”It’s an extraordinary feat to give birth to twins” for a 70-year-old mother, Dr. Edward Tamale Sali, who supervised her pregnancy and delivery, told AFP.

The mother, Safina Namukwaya, described the birth of the twins, a boy a girl, on Wednesday as a “miracle”.

Both mother and babies are in good health and are still under observation at a facility in the capital Kampala, continued Edward Tamale Sali. Safina Namukwaya usually lives in rural Masaka, some 120 kilometers west of the capital.

Only three years ago, the septuagenarian gave birth to a daughter, after being described as a “cursed woman” for not having been able to have children before.

With her first husband, who died in 1992, she had no children of her own. Ms. Namukwaya’s current partner, whom she met in 1996, did not attend the birth, much to her dismay.

“Maybe he’s not happy that I gave birth to twins (…) for fear of the responsibilities that entails,” she said.

“Tinubu disclosed that he’s exploring back-channel strategies in resolving the political crisis in Niger Republic because he didn’t want bloodshed in the West African country.”

Nigeria’s President and Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), Bola Tinubu, has revealed that he’s deploying back-channel strategies to avoid bloodshed in the Niger Republic.

Tinubu said this when he hosted the French Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs, Catherine Colonna, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Friday, November 3, 2023.

In the wake of the coup that deposed President Mohamed Bazoum, ECOWAS imposed several sanctions on the Niger military junta and also threatened to unleash its military on the nation to restore democratic order.

However, the Niger military leaders gird their loins, forming a military alliance with neighbouring countries in preparation for a possible military invasion by the regional bloc.

Despite activating its standby force for a possible incursion, ECOWAS never made good on its threat to invade Niger and instead opted for diplomatic dialogue to resolve the political impasse.

Meanwhile, President Tinubu has now disclosed that he decided to pull the plug on the earlier military intervention to avoid a bloodbath in the neighbouring country.

“Leadership is about responding to the needs of the people; their cries, and their frustrations. Nigeria shares a border with Niger across the expanse of seven Nigerian states, and most of these states are very populated. Therefore, I need to guide ECOWAS carefully and steadily so that we manage our anger carefully,” he said.

”We have a colleague and a democratically-elected leader, President Bazoum, being used as a human shield. If we are not careful, he and his family can be endangered.

”I am deploying all appropriate back-channel strategies to avoid bloodshed in Niger Republic. We recognize the wishes of our people; they do not want war, but that does not mean we cannot take bold and decisive action,” the president added.

In her remarks, Colonna conveyed French President Emmanuel Macron‘s goodwill message to Tinubu while also commending the latter’s leadership in handling the ECOWAS affairs.

“We support your efforts at ECOWAS. We are behind you because we believe that constitutional order is a treasure for all countries, and democracy must be a reality,” said the French envoy.

Nigeria’s Intervention Team, comprised of scholars from various Islamic sects in the country, stated this in a statement on Sunday.

The team, led by Sheikh Bala Lau, met at the weekend with the coup leader, General Abdourahmane Tchiani, during which they deliberated on all the issues, including the ECOWAS’ demand to reinstate former President Bazoum.

Bala Lau, in a statement signed on Sunday, said the team was in Niger on behalf of President Bola Tinubu, who approved their request to intervene, ThisDay reports.

He, therefore, told General Tchiani that the visit to Niger was to engage in constructive dialogue to encourage him and other military leaders behind the coup to toe the path of peace instead of war to resolve the crisis.

In his response, General Tchiani, who accorded the team’s warm reception, welcomed their intervention.

He said: “Our doors were open to explore diplomacy and peace in resolving the matter. It was painful that ECOWAS leaders did not hear our side of the matter before issuing an ultimatum to quit office.”

He further claimed the coup was well intended, adding that they struck to stave off an imminent threat that would have affected not only Niger Republic but also Nigeria.

While apologising for not giving the required attention to the team earlier sent by President Tinubu, the coup leader explained that it was because they were angry about the ECOWAS ultimatum.

Niger’s military rulers announced Sunday that they had closed the country’s airspace, warning that any attempt to violate it would meet with an “energetic and immediate response”

“Faced with the threat of intervention, which is becoming clearer through the preparation of neighbouring countries, Niger’s airspace is closed from this day on Sunday… for all aircraft until further notice,” the country’s new rulers said in a statement.

The announcement came as the deadline from the West African bloc ECOWAS for them to hand back power to the democratically elected President Mohamed Bazoum was due to expire.

ECOWAS last Sunday issued Niger’s new military rulers with an ultimatum to stand down within the week or face possible military intervention.

Bazoum was overthrown on July 26 when members of his own guard detained him at the presidency.

President Bola Tinubu was elected Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States Authority of the Heads of State and Government over the weekend.

Tinubu, who attended the forum of West African leaders for the first time at the 63rd Ordinary Session was formally elected as the Chairman in Bissau, the capital of Guinea-Bissau.

Tinubu succeeded President Umaro Sissoco Embaló of Guinea-Bissau as the leader of the sub-regional political and economic body.

He will be responsible for guiding the ECOWAS member states toward economic growth, political stability, and cooperation in his capacity as chairman.

However, Tinubu is not the first Nigerian president to emerge as chairman of the sub-regional African body.
